NAIS & You
better together
Welcome “No schools in America are in a better position to seize the future and to guide the next generation than schools that know what they stand for and have the freedom, and independence, to make it happen.”
The National Association of Independent Schools’ mission is to be the voice of independent education. But what does that mean to you as a school leader or administrator in your day-to-day job? What does it mean as you think broadly and long-term about the future of your school? Whether or not your school is an NAIS member, we invite you to learn more about NAIS and the schools we serve. Browse these pages to see tangible examples of the services we provide schools and the ways in which our members engage with us and each other to improve their schools and strengthen the independent school community. Please be in touch with me or any member of the NAIS staff to find out more.

The independent school community is a critical voice in the national conversation about education; when individual schools like yours connect with others, that voice is strengthened. NAIS leads advocacy efforts to facilitate those connections. NAIS also actively monitors the legal, governmental, and media landscape to keep you abreast of the issues that matter most. And, most importantly, we provide opportunities for you as school professionals to connect with — and learn from — one another.

NAIS member schools rely on NAIS to create and collect resources targeted specifically for independent schools. NAIS publications take on valuable topics such as trends, trustee training, head of school searches, and fund-raising tactics. NAIS “Principles of Good Practice” lay out specific standards of good practice in all areas of operations. Web content and enewsletters provide up-to-date opportunities and information.

Analyze Good decisions are data-driven, but finding reliable data can be difficult. NAIS conducts research and produces digestible reports you can use to evaluate your school practices. We also identify relevant external research and explain how to use it. Or, you can collect data your way: Through StatsOnline, benchmark your school’s figures; through the Survey Center, decode parents’ perceptions or evaluate trustee performance; and through the Demographic Center, gather a comprehensive picture of your enrollment landscape.
Ongoing learning and idea sharing keep NAIS schools strong and innovative. The NAIS Annual Conference and People of Color Conference offer more than 8,000 independent school professionals the chance to connect, recharge, and be inspired. The School Leadership Institute, Institute for New Heads, Leadership through Partnership, Diversity Leadership Institute, and SSS Leadership Forum provide targeted, hands-on professional judgment.
Attend “My one goal for the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) was to learn how to change the world. The teachers and friends I encountered at SDLC have now equipped me to be able to do so.” Student attendee NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference

“It’s all about our students: the stories, the triumphs, the innovation, the creativity, the determination — to share in these moments, that’s the fun part for me.” Martin C. Jones Director of Marketing and Communications, Oregon Episcopal School
Schools become NAIS members to benefit from targeted products and services that save them time and money and help them operate more efficiently and effectively. They join for high-value tools like the School Search and Career Center that connect them to prospective families and teachers.
