Project Brief: This is a proposal for a competition. The Metro development Authority of Bangalore asked architects, designers and sculptors to design a scultpure tohat will stand at the pocket of MG Road Metro Station.

Design Proposal: The ideation of our proposal is based on the comcept of flower of lfe that grows from the central module to outwards. The form develops into lattice triangle which are selfsimilar at different scales. Using the logic of fractal itself the flower transforms into a tree, with a stalk a series of branches and sub-branches. leaf clusters which sub-divide and the whole mathematics of the fractal system manifesting aitself at every scale as we go smaller ( for instance the venetation within a leaf is akin to the branching system of the tree).

Bird'd Eye and Aerial View of the Sculpture from Church Street.

[2]

A Nephrometer is proposed to be incorporated within the sculpture which would shoot alight beam into air to measure the concentration of fine particulate matter particularly the smallest particle PM2.5. This real-time AQI data would be converted into digital information and directly input ot the light changing LED strips within the sculpture making them change in hue from green through yellow. to red indicating vusually the rythm of traffic and peak human activity and its effect on the actual levels of pollution in our daily air situations.

Green, Yellow and Red colour changing LED lighting of the sculpture indicating dynamic and real-time AQI data of pollution levels on Church Street.

[3]

The sculpture will be buzzing with insects, birds and fruits mad with upcycled electronic waste parts when seen up close reminding us how our modern lifestyles and life-choices are generating mountains od wates we simply cannot cycle.

THE OBSERVATORY

02 The observatory is an academic project done during 6 month of computation design program proceeded under rat[LAB]. The design is developed to respond to a hypothetical site in a natural setting. The proposal is a sanctuary structure near a public-used recreational trail where people could come and take rest temporarily and observe the nature closely. The design comprises of architectural solution and computational tools as a need based solution. The proposal is developed to utilize the digital fabrication tools like CNC cutting and wood bending machine to realize this project. The proposal poses as a landmark for the project.

Rings

The design composed of concrete column-beam structure with wooden staircase & railing and outer wooden skin consisting of horizontal rings & lamellaes. The lamellaes are designed to have a consistent coverage that thins out towards the top so it does not intersect with each other at the top. The tower was designed to have four different levels as a look-out areas for visitors to pause and admire the surrounding. [7]

Lamellaes

A parametric tool was developed in Grasshopper to unroll the timber elements and nest them on a sheet so dimensioning and bending radii could be observed in order to estimate cost. Exploded Isometric Section

CONCEPT Form The project is an group project done during 6 month of computation design program proceeded under rat[LAB]. The project investigates wood system constructed and formed through stratergic accumulative local weakening and disruption of fibre continuity by kerfing The project is aimed to develop an integrated computational design tool that allows programming the bending and twisting behavior of tensioned wood elements through specific kerf patterns. Material Taking advantage of its low cost availability, despite being perfectly flat sheet material, and free form imperfections and grain direction, engineered wood is actuallly a diverse material with inherent dynamic associated with the tree it once came from. This is something that could be emphasized and more accessible through computational design and digital fabrication.

Credits- This exhibition design studio was carried forward from the Masters Thesis - Digital wood by the students from chalmers University, Sweden esppecially the kerfing research ideas.

A 1:5 scale model was built of the structure. 236 pieces were laser cut on 5 sheets of A1 size file cardboard. The loops were folded and connected using a stapler. Subsequently the loops were connected with each other's tip from the overall structure. [10]

AFFORDABLE HOUSING (year 2017-18) Final Graduation Thesis Project

Affordable housing for the EWS and LIG groups is a thesis project. The project aims at identifying the living conditions of the urban poor and translate it into appropriate housing. The project focuses on understanding the design parameters of low cost housing and locally available construction techniques. The project derives its concept from research and investigations from the existing sites. [11]

SITE PLANNING

N At road level, the clusters are placed to have visual connectivity, creating a safe enviroment for the residents. An intermediate street have been formed between built masses orienting East-West to cater the service line laid out there and to support 2-wheeler parking of the residents. This back street holds the potential for cross-ventilation, parking for 2-wheelers and services of all the dwelling units.

Apartments are clustered, so they share common wall which will bring down the cost of the project. All the service areas in the flats like washing, bathing are clubbed together to have common plumbing services. Third Floor flats have terraces which serve as the open area. As the people living in these social housing require open areas.

05 sCHOOL dESIGN

(year 2017) 4th Year Architectural Design (AD) Studio Project Mentor: Ar. Pulkit Gupta, Ar. Harendra Bohra

[21]

The school is a fourth year design project. The design is developed after research and understanding the philosophies of various educationists for a learning space. The design is proposed on a contoured site in an urban setting. The aim is to understand the problems with current built enviroments of school and to come up with solutions that can increase learning in students. The school is designed for a population of 800 students. The design proposed is an amalgamation of green landscape areas on the roof of the built enviroment. The ground is modulated to increases the interest of students and act as a play area.

The idea is showing the spatial organisation of the built space which provides various opportunities to children and help them learn and develop their physical abilites and wholesome growth. These modulations with green area on the roof help climatically, to increase the internal thermal comfort. [22]

The idea is showing the integration of built structure with nature and surroudings. Thrugh this model the students are encouraged to develop their ideas from scratch.

The idea shows the posrosity in circulation, the freedom of movement in between the built space give children a sense of liberty.

The arrival of technology and the introuction of public water supply system for the first time in 1866-87 in the city, eded the necessity of Gulab Sagar as a source of water supply. With the passage of time, the waste was being dumped into the pond. The ignorance of the muicipality towards the water reservior led to deterioration.

The competetion brief involved documenting a public site of cultural importance which has been ignored for more than a decade and to submit a propsal to redevelop and rejuvenate the place by documenting and site study of the place. A temple near the pond where local pople pay their tribute.

The site hold prominance in Jodhpur because local people celebrates festivals like Gangaur Pooja, Holi, Dev-Jhulni, and Eka-Dashi etc. Which makes it insprable part of Johpur's inherited culture and tradition.

Toddler's chair

Toddler's chair uses the principle of interlocking without the requirement of pressing nails through the members. The project took inpiration from a lot of available open source project. Right now, the project is under development and being tested for structural integrity.

Project Brief:

This is a personal project. The brief from client was to design 200 peices of collapse table-chair and storage furniture for 4-6 and 6-7 years old for an upcoming school in Jaipur. The furniture is designed as a knock down furniture which relies on digital tools like CNC and Laser-cutting for its production. The pieces are produced on a 18mm Birch board, CNC-cut, and epoxy coated for smooth finish.

Wall Ramps

Wall Rmaps is a game for kids constituting of a flexible pipe (to create a track for rolling a ball throught he pipe), wooden pegs (to be insterted in the wooden board) and a wooden board (with holes for holding pegs). Kids find rolling a ball throough track a very interesting game and it becomes more intersting if kids can design a track as they wish. For a smooth roll of the ball the flexible pipe is laid slightly tilted and thus the name 'Wall Ramps'. [34]
