Affordable housing Academic : Thesis project, 2020 Site : PPSEZ, Phnom Penh, Cambodia Type : Residential (96 000m2) Individual Work
THE PROJECT aims to provide not just a Shelter but a Home a Community for the Factory Workers woking in and around Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone. Most of the Workers came from provinces near Phnom Penh. Since Phnom Penh is the Capital City, everythings all the way form Land, Houses, Renting are super expensive. Therefore, They were forced to live in Tiny Unsanitary Rented Room .
The situation of the Rented Rooms that the Wokers are currently living in. They usually share it with 4 people in order to save money. As their Status and their Living situation they often being Think-Less by the society. So, We want to offer them a Comfortness and bring back their Dignity.
the site is located in Khan kombol, third phase of PPsez, along Steund Prek tnot.
The choosen Site was selected by the PPSEZ themselves as they plan to built their own Affordable Housing for their Workers. With the site located on the Outskirt of Phnom Penh on the and have Enough Public Facilities, It’s perfect for the Project.

Rather than build a Highrise Apartment in which our people aren’t used to it’s Living conditons yet, We decided to choose another, a better Approach. Started by devidng Houses in to Small Apartment Blocks with each Blocks contains it’s own Green Space and Vegetation area. By doing so, It created a better Living condition with Good Airflow, Better Sunlight and Especailly increase the chances of Interaction between Residents that lead to Better Communication, Trust and built them a Sence of Ownership in which most of Housing Pocject nowaday lacked of.
We create a Main Road in the middle of the site and placed Derm Purr (Belief’s Tree) in between the Intersection. The Tree represents as the Protective Spirit in Khmer People’s Belief. So that way, It created a Warming Protective Feeling for the Residents and also a place for them to Pray as a Community.
Apartments are devided in to 3 Big Blocks with a Big Green Space in the middle. Create an Organic Roads in between Apartment to add more Beauty to the Surrounding Enviroment. The 3 Main Blocks has it own Parking to Help Reduce the Over Crowded. Each Parking have a Transportation Spot for Wokers to wait for ReurMork ( type of transportation ) to go to Work. No Vehicles are allowed inside, except Bike.

Slice the Apartment in to 4 blocks to create better Air flow and Sunlight.
Add a Courtyard in the middle. Put Staircases with Balconies on the West side of the Building to Prevent the Heat from entering the Units.
Spaces between the Apartment blocks allows Better View from one Apartment to another. Bridges are being added to connect those blocks together, allowing Interaction between Residents living in different block.
Free Land around the Apartment will be use for Tree Planting and Growing Vegetable.
Our Ambition in Designing this Project is, We wanted of Fullfill all the Basic Needs that every Housing Projects Needed in order to be considered Livable. More than that, We try to offer what most People look over and that’s is the Comfortness, Warming Feeeling of Living together as a Community. In order to archive that with included many Elements to the Design to bring the Residents together. Furthermore We also introduce the New Technlogy that gonna Revolutionize the whole Conventional Construction Industry known as 3D Printing to help cut down the cost of the Construction making the Project Affordable.

3d printing tectnology 3D Printing Technology is a very Promissing New Technology that’ve been designed especailly to Revolutionize the Construction industry. With it’s abilities to Printed the Building on Site and reduce the number of Worker, Time, Transportation, Waste.etc. It’s belives to be able to cut down the price by 50% compare to Conventional Construction. Moreover, It also has the abilities to printed any shape and pattern efficiency that pushes the design to another level. 3d Printed wall and column
Material :
All of the materials being used in the Project are all Local materials such as Bamboo, Wooden Window, Transparent Roof.etc. For Decoration We used a few type of Air Bricks and Tile Roof. All of this materials are very easy to find and also very Affordable.

Trying to create a Sense of Ownership by using Hollow Space as a Boundary between Residences and Walkway! By placing its on each side of the Unit, It create a Personal Entrance for the Owner, Providing Privacy for Living and Dinning area and at the same time Inviting Light and Air to travel through. Courtyard in the middle of the Apartment offering a Fresh Enviroment and act as a Focal point for the People to meet, relax and interact with each other. Rean Tevada (god’s house) for Residents to Pray together as a Community mimicking the feeling of being in the same Family.

The Building consists of 23 Floors, Including all the necessary Public Services such as Sky Garden,Cafeteria, Funtsal court.. The Playground and Water Displays on Ground Floor serves as a community for the residents to enjoy and interact with each other.
