T

his past month I reached a personal milestone. For years I have been enthralled with the practice of yoga and meditation. I have seen how they can transform people’s lives (including my own) for the better. I wanted to be able to help spread that experience to others. So last year I signed up to do the 200-hour yoga teacher certification. Anyone who has ever attempted this challenge knows what a life changing and intensive course this constitutes. The emotional and physical places you challenge your mind and body to go to during these classes are almost mystical in their intensity. You explore concepts about life, love, and spirit that force you to consider all of the big questions in life. I had the misconception, and I am sure I am not alone, that the yoga teacher training would be more physically grueling than mental. I envisioned hours of intensive Vinyasa flows with sweat dripping from my brow as I tried to perfect inversions and challenging poses…and we did indeed do that, however what I did not expect was the time and dedication to the development of the mind. This course teaches the science behind meditation and yoga. The asana (physi-

cal practice of yoga) was only created to help enable yogis to sit for long periods of time and meditate. That is the first intention of the physical poses. 5,000 years ago when yoga was developed they did not have Core Power on every street corner offering one hour of high intensity physical practice. These first yogis were people who devoted themselves to the exploration of the mind. They found the physical expressions as a way to enable them to reach those inner corners of the mind. I found these mental exercises so profound that I have incorporated it into my daily routine, e.g., Sun Salutations. In this month’s issue we have compiled an amazing collection of articles that give you everything from the latest research on mindfulness and meditation to the apps you need to make it a habit. I can attest to the fact that nothing I have tried has had a more profound impact on my work, relationships, and general mood than the 15 minutes I dedicate to meditating. I know it can be hard. Getting my mind to be quiet for more than 5 seconds was a challenge in the beginning, but check out the meditation app article to help you find a great fit for your needs. Bayou St. John

AKA BAYOUK CHOUPIC by Julie Holman

Boundaries: Located in MidCity and bounded by Esplanade Ave., N. Broad St., St. Louis St., and the Bayou St. John waterway.

8

New Orleans

History: Originally known as Bayouk

Choupic, the waterway was navigated by Native Americans as their supply route using small canoes from Lake Pontchartrain to the Mississippi River. There was a portage between the Bayou and the Mississippi River and due to the difference in water level between the bayou and the level of the sea, early French explorers, traders, and trappers where attracted to the area. Settlers established a small community in the late 17th century and in 1701 a small fort was established by the French beside the Lake Pontchartrain end of the Bayou to protect this important route. Fort St. Jean would later be known as “Old Spanish Fort.

nalamag.com

Architecture: During the first half of the 20th century, commercial use of the Bayou declined and the area known as the Carondelet Canal was filled in. Also, many New Orleanians began living in houseboats on the Bayou resulting in complaints from residents of nearby neighborhoods regarding sanitation concerns, which led to being outlawed in the 1930s. Today architecture in the area includes shotgun singles, raised cottages, and deco-inspired homes.

Restoration: In 1955, the New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board temporarily drained the 2.5-mile Bayou to clean out debris and material that was causing foul odors. Over the years, the waterway became neglected and Katrina-era floodwaters were pumped out of the city, but the sluice gates were still closed, which caused low water levels in the Bayou and high salinity, per the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation. This created damage on the Bayou’s already-compromised environment and exposed debris, pollution, and grand scale dumping such as tires, cars, and groceries in the water. Today numerous events, festivals, and activist groups engage in projects for keeping the water, banks, and wildlife vibrant. Lagniappe: The Bayou

Activism: Parkview Neighborhood Association, www.parkviewneighborhood association.org, Faubourg St. John neighborhood Association at www.fsjna.org as well as, the Greener Bayou St. John Coalition, www.greenerbayoustjohn. org, made up of residents surrounding the Bayou and some members of neighboring associations are vocal about preserving, maintaining, and protecting the waterway and surrounding grassy banks. Concerns range from the ecosystem’s integrity to ensuring accountability and clean-up when Festivals use the grounds—drawing up to 35,000 people.

and portage were key factors in the selection of the site where the city was founded in 1718, at the river end of the portage route. In its natural state, it extended much farther than today; 18th and early 19th century maps show BSJ had tributaries reaching into the following neighborhoods: Broadmoor, CBD, St. Charles Avenue near Lee Circle, Carrollton, Treme, and a small stretch connecting to Bayou Gentilly. In the 19th century, an area along Bayou St. John was reputedly the location of many voodoo rituals by Marie Laveau as well as a meeting place for the downtown Mardi Gras Indian tribes gearing up for “Super Sunday” parades after Carnival.

AFFECTS OF SUGAR ON THE BODY

….and what to do about it. by Sharon Murphy

CONSUMERS ARE BEING TOLD THE BIGGEST LIE IN HISTORY. The effects of sugar are being denied and the addiction rate is not even a blip on the radar. Sugar is 8 times more addictive than cocaine according to research unearthed in documentary “Fed Up” by Stephanie Soechtig. Americans are reaching, in epidemic proportions, a health crisis situation. Diet-related diseases are the greatest cause of death in the U.S. In the last 50 years the number of people affected by diabetes, heart disease and obesity, especially in children and teens, have amplified dramatically. 12

New Orleans

nalamag.com

This begs the question: How much sugar is OK? The answer: For women it’s 6 teaspoons and for men 9 per day. Today, whether from soda, snacks, cereal, pasta, bread or other packaged foods, Americans each eat the equivalent of 22 teaspoons of sugar a day (teens get 34!), adding up to over 70 pounds of sugar per person, per year. And in just 32 ounces of soda, you (or your teen) can easily consume at least a quarter pound of sugar a day. According to Rachel K. Johnson, lead author of a paper published in the American

Heart Association (AHA) journal Circulation, too much sugar not only makes Americans fat, but also is a key culprit in diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. The typical American high-sugar diet is also a major factor in the development of cancer and Alzheimer’s disease as well. Sugar raises blood glucose, triggers abnormal insulin surges, and makes us hungry and fat. It also reduces HDL cholesterol (the “good” kind), skyrockets triglycerides, converts the less-harmful large LDL particles to the much more harmful small LDL particles. These contribute greatly to inflammation in the body. The food industry knows the earlier they introduce foods high in sugar to consumers the more likely they will have a customer for life. The chemical reaction in your brain counter balances your will power and exercise. We were told that if we exercised we would burn calories. To burn off a regular size serving of cake a child would have to bike for 1 hr and 15 minutes; 1 cookie would take 20 minutes of jogging; 1 medium order of fries would take 1 hr and 20 minutes of swimming to burn off those calories. Most of us when confronted with those facts would not put down the cookie. Universities, the FDA and the USDA are financially connected to the Food Industry and the Sugar Association. Lobbyists are paid to keep their bosses in business making lots of money. They are not willing to give up funding that would negatively impact their benefactors. “Lite” became the solution to eating fat. Americans were told that fat makes you fat. All of these “lite” diet foods appeared that were “fat free.” But Americans are not healthier or slimmer because the fat has been removed. Once you remove the fat it tastes like nothing. So the food industry added sugar in the form of High Fructose Corn Syrup. It’s cheap and readily available. It is a concentrated form of sugar that our bodies cannot process so it turns it into fat cells. Now all corn, unless it is organic, is genetically modified. That means it is sprayed down with pesticides to remove any unwanted weeds that would interfere with yielding the maximum amount of crops. Those pesticides don’t go away. Even when food is highly treated, traces remain and find their way into our bodies. The fundamental problem no one is talking about or willing to admit is that our food is making us sick.

HERE ARE A FEW SOLUTIONS: and eventually stop drinking all sugared drinks: 1 Reduce colas, bottled flavored water, tea. Read the labels!!! Beer and alcohol put pounds on that are hard to lose.

2 Drink 1/2 your body weight in water per day. If you weigh 150 pounds you would drink 75 ounces of water/day. That’s less than an 8-oz glass every hour.

3 Use maple syrup, honey or real Stevia. Granulated Stevia is processed beyond recognition. 4 Check out the LOW GLYCEMIN INDEX/LOAD – this tells you which foods have the sugar. 5 Read the labels! The sugar industry and the food industry do NOT want you to know how much sugar is in their products. Be smart, not sick!

6 Betime…losing patient. We gain weight over a long period of it will take a while. Take the 21 day challenge: Stop using any kind of sugar for just 21 days….3 weeks. What’s 3 weeks out of your life if it will help you become healthier? After 3 weeks go back to using sugar just like you did. You will be amazed at how sweet things are! Your taste buds will have started to adjust and so will your brain.

cientists and theologians quite often find common ground and scientific discoveries have been found to coincide with spiritual beliefs. Quantum physics has shown, for example, that thoughts are actually energy vibrations, suggesting that positive thoughts can help create better life experiences. In a national bestseller, How God Changes Your Brain, neuroscientist Andrew Newberg, M.D. and therapist Mark Robert Waldman concluded that active and positive spiritual practices actually create physical changes in the brain. Sister Charlene Toups, a nun in St. Clare’s Monastery, whose life work is devoted to contemplation, is not surprised by the authors’ conclusions because, as a Christian, she also believes prayer has the ability to change minds. She said that someone may pray or meditate for personal success, prosperity, or love, but the real purpose of prayer is to establish a relationship with the Divine and through that connection, individuals may begin to make better life choices, choose healthier lifestyles, and develop nurturing relationships. “When someone is moving toward God, they will be changed. We begin to see the face of God in one another, in the beauty of creation, and in the events of our lives. Through meditation, people may get more than they bargained for,” Sister Charlene chuckled. Newberg did brain scans on a variety of individuals who practiced different religions and found that focusing on positive thoughts caused asymmetry to develop in the thalamus of the brain, regardless of religious affiliation or practice. “If you keep a positive, optimistic view of the world, you actually 14

change the structure of your brain. It is more powerful than any drug,” said Waldman. Neuroscience can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God, but over time, spiritual practice can change our neurological perception of reality as well as improve cognition, communication, and creativity, the authors said. Religious contemplation tends to enhance social awareness and empathy while subduing destructive emotions. Waldman and Newberg said that words with meaningful value, for example “peace” or “love,” cause the frontal lobe to light up. After reading their research, Harriet Stafford, who leads a weekly meditation at Unity of New Orleans Spiritual Center, began incorporating particular words into her sessions. Stafford said, “Since I have been studying positive thinking for some time, I’d thought of myself as a positive thinker, but in reflecting on the habitual words that were entrenched in my mind, I realized I wasn’t as positive as I had thought. So, I began to consciously change the words I was using mentally and simply think of positive words, such as “peace,” “power,” “love,” “strength,” and “freedom” and incorporate them into the guided meditation I lead at Unity’s Wednesday Prayer and Healing group. I’ve found that repeating positive words in my own thoughts and speech brings the ideas they convey to the forefront of my conscious awareness.” The researchers found no difference between different modes of meditation. “Prayer can be in the form of words, a formulaic prayer like the ‘Hail Mary,’ a mantra, or even silence. Sometimes, it is speaking to God as you would a good friend,” said Sister Charlene.

THE SCIENCE OF HOW MEDITATION AND POSITIVE THINKING CAN CHANGE YOUR BRAIN by Mary Rickard

Gael Thompson, founder of Tibetan House, believes that meditating on personal goals is a Western aberration because a Buddhist meditates for the benefit of all sentient beings. “When one approaches meditation, intention is vital to how that unfolds. But deep shifts are more likely to occur when it is not focused on self,” said Thompson. Susan Wells began with sitting meditation and shifted to walking and waking meditation, loves the way meditation makes her feel connected to everybody, not separated and alone. Charles Fillmore, founder of Unity, spent two hours every day meditating and affirming the good, which he called “going to headquarters.” He believed universal wisdom could be accessed by going into the silence and sought to bring that knowledge into his own awareness. Unity’s co-founder, Myrtle Fillmore was said to have been cured of tuberculosis through meditation, an avenue of healing prayer that is available to everyone. Out of her “miracle” grew Silent Unity, a 24/7 prayer ministry available to everyone at no charge (800-NOW-PRAY).

ouisiana Local Leah Duncan, the Vegan Outreach Director with Humane Society of Louisiana has made a dent in the local Vegan scene since spearheading the festival with plant-based love since 2012. The Veggie Fest ,originally conceived in 1990, has drawn national accolades and continues to pick up momentum as more people embrace a plant-based and cruelty-free lifestyle. I had the opportunity to connect with Leah and learn about NOLA Veggie Fest.

JH- Leah, can you tell me what inspires and motivates your choice to be a Vegan and proponent of eating a plantbased diet? LD- I was raised vegetarian from birth in a small, bayou town in Louisiana. It was a very lonely experience. I want my kids to have a very different experience and to be able

to connect with their community through compassionate living and not feel alienated. Once I researched and realized all the untruths that we are taught as fact in schools, and in our culture, I became motivated to expose it. It’s an issue of self and community empowerment to be able to make informed decisions

for ourselves and our families about health and food choices. Let’s not forget Animal liberation. I feel no being on this planet is ours to use or exploit for any reason. What’s in store for NOLA Veggie Fest 2017? First I wanted to share that Nola Veggie Fest 2016 was very successful. We had a record-breaking attendance as the weekend festival is free for the whole family. We have so many ways to interact, engage, and to educate our community. Last year, former CNN correspondent and Animal Rights Advocate Jane VelezMitchell was our keynote for both days, in addition we hosted local and national leaders who represent healthy lifestyle choices by advocating for plant-based diets such as vegetarian and/or vegan foods. Since the inception of Veggie Fest in 1990 the Humane Society of Louisiana has produced the ever-evolving annual event, and each year we continue to grow. As in the past, for NOLA VF 2017 the Humane Society of Louisiana will continue to host a small cruelty-free animal petting area, and volunteers with the organization will be on hand to

provide education about their numerous programs. Additionally, we have local and nationally recognized inspirational speakers that can share information about plant-based diets, being vegan or vegetarian in Louisiana, and how it has changed their lives! We have an abundance of new and returning vendors, musicians, artists, animal rescuers, raffle and silent auction, interactives for the whole family, including cooking demos. We piloted all-levels and all-ages yoga last year and the response was outstanding! We plan to have some all-level and all-ages yoga offerings sprinkled throughout the weekend. Last year we launched our VIP Lounge… you pay one price and included with your wristband you are allowed access to our private Lounge with some tasty bites, craft beverages and a few other perks!

when they know they have made good food choices and even tell their friends everything they think they know about being plant-based. I have always made sure they are informed about their food—where it comes from, what’s in it, and how it is made. They know all the reasons why we do not eat animal products. I have even had other parents THANK me for my kids’ compassionate influences on their children! Good rule: Lots of raw veggies and fruit is lots of colors on your plate—the wider variety of color, the wider the variety of nutrients and vitamins in the foods!

You have kids, and as a parent I am sure you are concerned about them obtaining the proper nutrients. Is it challenging to provide them with a plant protein-based diet? Not more challenging than getting ANY kid to eat a balanced diet! But they are pretty savvy—they love to boast

THE POWER OF PRACTICING MEDITATION & MINDFULNESS IN THE MIDST OF GLOBAL SHIFTS

AMID CHANGE, TAKING TIME TO PAUSE, BREATHE, AND CREATE SPACE FOR REFLECTION CAN HELP IN REDUCING STRESS AND ANXIETY. By Dodge Prescott

Following the days of our past election and leading up to the current state of our global dynamics, many people from all nations have expressed feelings of being powerless, increased anxiety, and doom. In addition, Physicians and clinical Physiologists report a few days leading up to and post Presidential election of Trump 18

New Orleans

nalamag.com

that there is a syndrome occurring where patients are reporting an upwelling of anger, anxiety, and sadness stirred by thoughts of fear from our current regime. Many people are outraged, overwhelmed, overloaded, and consumed by the chronic stress and reaction to the election as well as global shifts and changes. Emotions and tensions are high, and at times the negativity seems to be thick—whether engaging face to face, via online forums or even battlement between resistance and rights groups. This is not normal. But we have actually been here before, and we will get through. As individuals, we cannot continue along a consistent path of fear, anxiety, and “resistance fatigue,” as science has proven chronic stress and anxiety lead to illness. The practice of meditation and mindfulness during these times is so valuable and important. Implementing ways to lighten

our emotions and responses to “things” we cannot control can and will aid in balance, both internally and externally so we can come together in peace, love, and harmony. Working with PTSD, Hospice, and Palliative patients and caregivers as well as children and families that have experienced trauma, I have compiled a few proven gentle and simplified ways of adding mindful & meditation to your life: Take a media break— avoid looking at your smartphone before bed and first thing in the morning. Instead take those moments to breathe in positive and exhale anything negative.

Engage in positive speak—both internally especially while engaging with every person you encounter. Smile at everyone you meet while passing on the street, popping in an elevator, and even while talking on the phone. If having interpersonal contact—truly look at that person in the eyes—make him or her the center of your universe while you are engaged. Take 5-10 mins first thing in the morning—whether in bed, or just pop right onto the floor and center your breath, either eyes open or closed, and envision yourself in the most beautiful place totally happy and loved. When breathing—be mindful of your breath, as you inhale match your exhale in depth, quality, and length.

“If nothing ever changed, there would be no Butterflies” –UNKNOWN Take 5-10 mins when preparing for sleep or while in bed to pause—center your breath and reflect upon the goodness you encounter and the goodness you create in your day. There are tons of free apps, podcasts, and blogs that offer a daily dose of positive thought, insight, and reflection. Mindful moment reminder. Set an alarm on your phone—ANYTIME day or night and for ANY length of time that once it goes off, you need to stop-pause-breathesmile and reflect on how beautiful you are. Reflect upon the last time you did something healthy and good for you or someone else. Maintain or add self-care routines: adequate sleep, hydration, and movement such as dance, yoga, or swimming Our journeys are not the same, yet without being tribal we all do share similarities. If one veers off the path, sometimes we need something to bring us back to where we need to be. Taking a moment to turn inward—creating your inner peace will help you to navigate the sometimes surreal and ever-changing world we live in. natural awakenings

Fiber isn’t always the most exciting nutritional topic to discuss, but it is extremely important for our health! A high fiber diet has been associated with many health benefits, including a decreased risk of heart disease, diabetes, colon cancer, and digestive issues. Fiber also helps keep blood sugar levels stable and keep you full—two key players in weight loss! Fiber is a carbohydrate and comes only from plant-based foods. It occurs in plant cells, and cannot be broken down or absorbed in the human body.

And because it is not actually absorbed, we can subtract carbohydrates coming from fiber from the total amount of carbohydrates in a meal, also known as net carbs. There are two types of fiber: soluble and insoluble fiber. Both types help digestive function and move along intestinal contents. Our daily goal of fiber is 25 to 30g, however most Americans only get about 15g per day. But before you run out and buy a bottle of Metamucil, know that it is best to get fiber from real food (such as beans, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables), rather than supplements.

HERE ARE SOME WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR FIBER INTAKE: 1/2 cup cooked white beans = 9g 2 Tbsp chia seeds = 8g 1/2 avocado = 7g 1 cup raspberries = 8g SWEGS Peanut Butter Chocolate Smoothie = 10g SWEGS Portobello & Spinach Panini = 12g

MEL’S TAKE 5

GREAT OUTDOOR MEDITATION SPOTS Your Publisher, Melissa Burbank’s, guide to all things Natural in NOLA.

There really is nothing like meditating outside— feeling the sunshine on your face, breathing in the fresh air, with the birds chirping as nature’s music in the background. Here are my top 5 picks for Great Outdoor Meditation Spots in the city.

New Orleans

nalamag.com

1 | THE TREE OF LIFE, AUDUBON PARK.

Officially called the Etienne de Boré Oak named after the first mayor of NOLA, but dubbed the “Tree of Life” by locals, the name says it all. It is believed to be between 100-500 years old and is one of most majestic oaks in the city. Located on your left side as you leave the Fly, just over the railroad tracks, on the east side of the zoo. Keep an eye out for the giraffes as well as they are easy to spot from here!

NOLA FAMILY ACUPUNCTURE

2 | THE LABYRINTH, AUDUBON PARK.

Just a hop, skip, and a jump from the Tree of Life, also on the left side as you leave the Fly, a half a block or so towards Magazine St. Potentially great for walking meditation as well as sitting meditation or simply being mindful while walking the path.

• • • •

Our approach is for you if you believe in: An alternative to medication. Healing your problems at the root. Taking care of yourself & feeling your best. Improved health to enhance your life.

We specialize in rebalancing:

• Hormones: Fertility, Menopause, Thyroid, Adrenals. • Nervous System: Anxiety, Depression, Stress, Pain. • Immune System: Autoimmune, Allergies. • Digestive System: IBS, Crohn's, UC.

3 | THE JAPANESE GARDEN IN THE BOTANICAL GARDENS, CITY PARK.

Often uninhabited and somewhat hidden in the back of the Botanical Gardens, the quiet gardens with just the sounds of the fountains is a great place to get you into the meditation mode before you close your eyes.

www.NolaFamilyAcupuncture.com • Or call us at (504) 715-2317. We are never too busy to help you.

4 | COUTURIE FOREST, CITY PARK.

The perfect place to escape the city without leaving the city, smack in the middle of MidCity, on Harrison Ave. Walk the trails through the forest and do some bird watching to unwind before finding a quiet spot to get your meditation on. There are a couple of great spots to sit along the path that traces the waterways including a few logs, benches, and decks to sit on. Or sit at the top of Laborde Mountain, which is the highest spot in New Orleans, not Monkey Hill as many in the city have long believed, to find your Zen moment.

5 | ON THE WATER, ANY WATER.

Rosemary Gladstar’s

We are surrounded by it—a city that was born, lives, and thrives on it—and there really is nothing quite as peaceful as sitting on the water. Find a quiet spot on the river to relax and watch the ships go by before beginning your zazen: the Fly or Crescent Park are great places to start. Or watch the reflection move with the motions of the water on Bayou St. John to clear your mind as you close your eyes. And anywhere on the Southshore or Northshore of the lake would be great to find your peaceful moment in time in this crazy thing called life. Happy Meditating!

What are some of your favorite places to meditate in the city? Have an idea for a Take 5? Let me hear from you! publisher@nalamag.com – Melissa

I want to meditate more but how do I keep my mind from bringing up distractions I’m trying to get away from? - Renee

T

his is a great question! This seems to be the biggest challenge about meditation—we want to feel blissful and Zen-like during and after a meditation practice. If our mind keeps chattering and we struggle to reach the present moment, we feel like we’re “doing it wrong.” Then we tell people we aren’t good at meditation or that it doesn’t work for us— our mind is too active. We can’t achieve that ultra-calm state of the Dalai Lama, so we avoid meditation or stop trying altogether. T h e b i g s e c re t about meditation is that it is not meant to stop your thoughts. Your mind may continue to churn out 10,000 anxieties per minute and that is ok. The idea of meditation is to create space for the expansiveness of the present moment, and to accept whatever comes into that moment, including thinking. The more you practice meditation, the more you will find yourself dipping into the

gap of “pure awareness”—sometimes just for a second, sometimes much longer. Even if you don’t experience presence and stillness, keep practicing and trust that nothing is wrong when you find yourself thinking. Meditation teachers will tell you to simply notice when you’re thinking, label it “thinking,” and go back to your practice. You are allowed to do this over and over and over. Some people with extra-active minds prefer a guided meditation that narrates specifically what to do and some find that the movement of a walking meditation calms their thinking mind. Some like a mantra meditation because repeating a sound gives their active brain something to do. Give yourself permission to “do it wrong” and you may be surprised how soon you’re feeling calmer as you approach your daily activities. Even if you simply rest and notice your breathing while your mind prattles on during meditation, you are receiving benefit from your practice. Trust that, and keep going!

Meditation is not meant to stop your thoughts. The idea of meditation is to create space for the expansiveness of the present moment, and to accept whatever comes into that moment, including thinking.

lifecity GREEN BUSINESS TIP of the MONTH

BELLE CHASSE ACADEMY:

SIMPLE SOLUTIONS FOR BIG RESULTS by Dash Rivers

Are you as smart as a 3rd grader? When it comes to recycling, adults can take a cue from children: the simpler the task, the more likely it is to be done. Take recycling for instance: young students may not yet be able to understand the complexities of landfill engineering and how to prevent leachate from contaminating underground aquifers, but they know that the less stuff you bury in the ground the better for the earth! Give them a simple way to recycle items and they’ll gladly participate. To that end Belle Chasse Academy (BCA) has placed blue recycling trash cans inside every classroom and staff office. With convenient access to a distinctive low-cost blue bin (green is nice too) the students can easily recycle paper, cans and plastic bottles. Our student Green Team collects the recycling twice per week so the bins get emptied on a regular basis. The other energy saving strategy we have employed this year is to install light timers/sensors in every classroom and bathroom. Rather than having our building lit up like a Christmas tree at night when no one is using the facility, these timers make sure that even if the teachers or custodians forget to turn off the lights, the system will automatically shut itself off after a certain period of disuse.

ounds a bit contradictory—Tuning in and using an app for meditation. We have taken the work out of your research and created a short list of meditation apps you can download and take with you anywhere—designed to be the perfect segue to developing a pattern that will help guide you individually on your meditation journey with ease and flow.
