As the quote insists, it is the good deed, the devotion for a united progress and the ‘impression’ that we leave behind that truly makes us belong to this country. Our concept is a physical metaphor of the said ‘impression’ and translates to a thumb impression which is very fundamentally human. The intricate pattern is seamlessly woven in space and takes an abstract form symbolizing ethnicity and reception.

India, a country of billion people and a land of countless cultures, is a mosaic of multicultural experiences. To inspire the Indian community with a singular idea, we began interpreting the notions that hold us together. We believe that we are all different in our special ways and yet come together as one country in an intangible way.
To think like an Architect is to think like a billion people. To wonder if all of us can make a singular decision. And “all” means, all religions, all races, all genders, all cultures, all specially abled people, all minorities and mother nature. A truly inclusive decision is truly Indian.

In retrospection, we identify time-lines of the past with the achievements and events. The design of the sculpture features two “impressions” balancing each other, this was created out of figurative attempts to represent the past “impressions” (left side) supporting the future “impressions” and endeavours (right side). The future is challenged by the youth with great spirits, the sculpture points out that it is important to be bound to our heritage and learn from the events of the past in order to create a resilient future. The future impressions are therefore supported by glorious impressions of the past and the right lessons from the past help us steer proudly towards a profound future.

The YST355 steel sections are used in ways to take full advantage of their tensile strength and lightweight. The sculpture feels “zen” and light by creating a perfectly balanced figure-ground volume. Each circular section that denotes a ridge of a thumb-print is mutually supported by shifting radial tubes that are inconspicuous to the naked eye at a distance. A surreal effect is achieved through such details. The structure deals with appropriate levels of transparency that avoids averting the neighborhood skyline and context. Thus, maximizing versatility of site integration and adaptability.

Reweave Kozhikode is a competition held in an attempt of seeking strategies for the revival / adaptive reuse of the Comtrust Textile Factory building , located in the heart of the city of Kozhikode. The brief sought answers and ideas on how to tap the potential of the site, enhance the connection of the factory site to its wider precinct and also with the people of Kozhikode.
When life ends, it is gradually absorbed as new organisms begin to assimilate the dead. New ecosystems arise and new lives are created. The dead does not disappear; it merely takes a new form. The function of the weaving factory may have come to an end, however, it can always take a new form by integrating with other functions.
The Revival of the Comtrust factory carefully re-considers functions around the scope of the building. By doing so, it helps de-congest and redirect people and pathways that encourage and make way for new visitors and tourist activities, therefore, helping not just the factory but also the city of Kozhikode at large.
‘Reweave - Revive’ sets an interesting dimension to the revival of old architecture, it sees an opportunity rather than a problem. Above all, time is the most precious asset, a building that aged is a building with value.

THE DESIGN DIRECTION:
De-fortification
Two major nodes were identified to have major footfall and buffling activities next to the site with two less approachable pathways connecting them.
Breaking Barriers
Thus de-fortification is done and a street is created through the site to give a shaded pathway spine to pedestrians and cycle riders, with flexible, multipurpose, public, exhibition spaces on either sides.
The street splits the building into 3 zones namely- 1. The Production Zone, 2. The Retail Zone, 3. Heritage Zone. These zones house a mixed use functions that are bound to sustainable and collaborative practices to encourage innovation, awareness, business and creativity.
The dead edge of the pond is extended and removed of barriers and made into a 16 ft wide deck space with a pedestrian pathway, lush green plantations, a viewing space and other amenities. All three sides of the pathway are made free from barriers like the compound wall.

The design program intends to develop a training center and small manufacturing units to restore the heritage and the links to the old. Exhibition spaces, museums, and Retail shops are the spaces where one can create skills and showcase them leading to selling activities for one’s economic balance. In the city, this way reinforces local networks and cultural wisdom surrounding sustainable living and independence in its functionality.
The training program here would help an individual, give opportunities to artisans and craftsmen from in and around Calicut to come here and to help and develop others as well as their skill set and then further let apply the learning into creating something and through the museums and display areas, they can display their items and help them economically by selling.

The prime objective of the client’s brief was to design a micro-apartment complex with luxury 2bhk units in each floor. The site is present in a partly small scale-industrial corridor, tucked in between 2 equally sized buildings. Each floor has 3 housing units that can be approached through the central circulation core.
The design is an inspiration drawn from the local context and is a fine juxtaposition of a brick wrap and a raw cement finished solid. This was purposefully done to blend in with the neighbouring context.
Micro context
The central courtyard that houses the circulation core is finely detailed to become a social hub with elegant landscape and seating . This space can be approached through the entrance portal.

The proposal for the “Center of Excellence“ was hosted as a national architecture competition intending a place where the architecture profession nurtures and the culture of design and innovation advances. It is meant to be a timeless forum for scholars, students, professionals, stakeholders etc come together.
Architecture creates a “choreography” of movements, perceptions, and emotions. Buildings direct and guide our behavior—they suggest and invite, enable or limit. To me, this experiential, lived activity and reality is architecture. Architecture should always be an invitation and a promise. So, the invited actions and dynamic interrelations make architecture closer to a verb than a noun.

Taking cues from the site, we found that the answer lies in a building that functions as a spatial framework that gives meaning to the ground, shaping possibilities for diverse experiences. Beyond satisfying the stipulated requirements, the building becomes a threshold in its larger context by blurring its boundaries and mediating with the neighboring institutions and access roads. It allows for an organic flow of people through the place, shaping it into a thoroughfare, an in-between, a destination and a chance

The main objective of the competition is to re-interpret the way we analyze and document cities and come up with a proposal that is a direct effect of the result, after analyzing a city.
A habitat center is a unique concept of a mixed- use setup ,with multi institutional, cultural and conventional spaces , weaved over a common urban-public space platform. This was first implemented in the “India Habitat Center”, New Delhi. The Hyderabad Habitat Center (HHC) is proposed at Izzatnagar, Hyderabad, Telangana with an aim of promoting heritage, art and culture, on the lines of the India Habitat Center (IHC).

SITE ARTICULATIONDE-FORTIFICATION AND BARRIER REDUCTION
A service road is laid like a closed loop that tunes well with the contours, conserving the natural vegetation and terrain elements like boulders, slopes, etc.
The building profile is made along the inner lengths of the road ,enclosing the area with the highest points of the site
The central elevated zone is made into a green, public zone with a humanized scale with the highest elevation points and the intersection points as the nodes .Three major entry points and one service entry are made into the setup.
Bio-swales with green cover and rain water harvesting pits are made in order to ensure natural drainage with a catchment pond near the conserved tree canopy.
The buildings are zoned according to their suitable function maintaining forms with orientation towards terrain, daylighting and ventilation .
DESIGN ELEMENTS
The Habitat Footbridge also acts as an iconic entrance archway and plaza for food court with seating and opportunity for vendors on the top platform.
Natural bio-swales and bridges created to enable natural drainage on site and prevent seepage of water.
Evening food court cum craft market with plazas, and gathering spaces , also creating opportunity to street vendors.
The central elevated zone is made into a public zone and the built zone appears to be scaled down when viewed from here, with place-making strategies.
The location of the site is an advantage to the design as it is close to the MMTS and Hitex. If activated, the site can be used as a major urban hub due to the presence of these transit units.

The Floor, The Walls and The Roof Approach over the core
Standing by the seashore listening to the cry of the seagulls flying I look ahead at the gracefully sculptured dunes made of golden sands, there is something enthralling about them. While visiting this adobe of none, set amidst the seashore, one witnesses the urban mix irrespective of their background blending in with the vast and timeless sea. As we approach the HAVEN we are greeted by the twirling winds that whisper the unsung song of the sea. Stolling within , opportunities for socialization present themselves helping us to engage with various people.
