“College preparation” goes beyond academic expectations. It’s about HONOR. INTEGRITY. CHARACTER.
It’s about developing
Leaders.
Our students abide by the Honor Code, a standard upheld by our student-led Honor Council for more than 100 years.
HONOR CODE I pledge my word of honor as a gentleman/lady that: I will tell the truth and not deceive others. I will not lie. I will ensure the work I submit is my own, and I will neither give nor receive unauthorized assistance in my academic work. I will not cheat. I will respect the property of others by not taking or borrowing without permission. I will not steal. I will do all in my power to enhance the spirit of trust embodied in this honor code. I will not support dishonorable behavior.

2018-19: Battle Ground Academy Profile The Academy: Founded in 1889 in an effort to restore war-torn Williamson County, BGA is a co-educational, independent college preparatory school for K-12 students in Franklin, Tenn. The independent school experience at the academy is just that – independent. We are neither bound by specific cultural or religious beliefs nor government mandate to teach in only one way. This type of independence results in meaningful curricula based on the needs of the individual learners in our classrooms. Accreditation: BGA is accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools. The academy is also a member of the National Association of Independent Schools. Students: 790 students, hailing from Davidson, Maury, Rutherford and Williamson counties. BGA also hosts international students through New Oasis International Education.
Faculty: 130 full-time faculty and staff with 100 percent of faculty serving as mentors to students outside the classroom through extracurricular activities and advisory groups. The academy’s faculty-to-student ratio is 9:1. Commitment to Innovation: Innovation in the classroom is more than just access to technology. It is about preparing students to be successful in a world that values critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration as the foundation of a productive society. At BGA, this takes the form of access to today’s cutting-edge technology coupled with an inquiry-based learning curriculum designed to engage students in addressing real-world problems, issues important to our communities, and questions that truly matter. Community of Character: The academy was founded on the principles of honor, integrity and character. From the Character Education and Service Learning
OUR MISSION:
To ignite and nurture student curiosity, intellect and character.
Program in Lower School to the advisory program and peer groups in Middle and Upper School, students at all age levels focus on attributes of character that are vital for moral, ethical and leadership development. Diversity: The academy provides an inclusive, welcoming environment where differences in all its forms are affirmed, appreciated and celebrated. These differences endow the school and its community with a multitude of perspectives from different races, ethnicities, religions, genders, cultures, social classes and lifestyles. College Preparation: College counseling begins in eighth grade, with one-on-one college counseling beginning freshman year. One hundred percent of the 2018 class were college bound, with 100 percent being accepted to one of their top three choices. Student Organizations: The academy offers more than 75 honors societies, clubs and organizations for student involvement in Lower, Middle and Upper School. Beginning in fourth grade, students are designated “Greer” or “Plato” and participate in schoolwide academic and athletic competitions, culminating in an end-of-year Tug of War across the Harpeth River.
The Arts: Our goal is to develop in our K-12 students the ability to use the fine arts as a means of creative expression, critical evaluation, greater self-awareness, and to give our students an appreciation for the inherent value of the fine arts. Through a comprehensive visual and performing arts program that begins in kindergarten and culminates with full-scale performances and Advanced Placement classes in the Upper School, BGA students are exposed to multiple disciplines through classwork, visiting artists and workshops, and field trips. Athletics: BGA Wildcats participate in 13 HVAC middle school sports and 13 TSSAA high school sports. Lower School students have the opportunity to participate in daily wellness classes, Running Club, Little Dribblers and the Kids Rock Marathon. Alumni: Our alumni network includes more than 5,000 Wildcats worldwide, who give their time, treasure and talent annually to provide opportunities and experiences for current students.
