KNOLLED CNC PARTS FOR THE EXHIBIT STRUCTURE

The Design gave me the opportunity to build my 100 square feet exhibit displaying my crafter personality, delving deep into how I think about an end product. I used the Konsberg machine to trace my perception - of how I finisih most of my works’ ends and edges. The finish of anyone’s work defines how the end user percieves your product’s silhouette. I worked with an isle table and a platform that is lower to the ground on the other to highten the intimacy of the interactions.

BIRD NEST: URBAN RESIDENCE DESIGN COMPETITION

COMPETITION SHEET LAYOUT In the present-day context. good architectural design is defined by the perfect nexus between man, materials, and nature. A byproduct of the current urban context are skyscrapers. The house we designed is elevated to a certain height, playing the card of contrast- between the concrete-dense urban jungles and the true nature. The building is designed so, to make the skyline apparent to the users, making people question the contradiction in design. This design will be a baton to a green transformation marathon. A micro-climate is created in the house with the help of a green skin which helps preserve the definition of a typical ground-level house. There is a walkway wrapped with the green skin at the building’s half height, which acts as an exclusive garden.

BIOPHILIA AND MIMICRY IN WORKSPACE

Neo-Work is a workspace experience for the “now” with the goal of learning from the success and failure of the pre and post-pandemic offices. Through biophilic design, biomimicry, and blending outdoors and indoors of the workspace, Neo-Work brings people back into a new working environment to work and connect with each other.

BIO-MIMICING SPATIAL FRAMERS

The forms of the building have combinations that mimic nature, complimenting geometric forms. The office is designed to bring back the users to workspaces making them feel they are secure in an outdoor natural ambience. For example: a centrally facing organic work space mimics a river movement/ the crowned leaf shade forming roof ON the bulding is retrofitted in order to MIMIC A SHADE FORMED BY A LEAF under the sun, extolling the industrial facade.

The space is encompassed with arches imitating stalactites, adding a sense of balance to the space’s massive volume - formed by multiple double and triple height pouches.

This project remains one of my most exciting exercises. It taught me to think how to INDUCE a feeling of nature, over bringing the nature itself into the space directly.

ONE PAGERS

VITRA NEW YORK

At Vitra, I proposed a 300 seat SoftWait system configurations with Hal table and chairs, as a part of the Toronto Pearson Airport’s interior planning proposal.

ONE PAGERS

ROW RESIDENTIAL FACADE DESIGN

The double height space on the top two floors because of the added plantation, demanded us to design a zig and zag like extension of the slabs. Once we extended the slabs, the simple difference in the lengths of the extensions looked appealing enough to repeat it with the bottom three floors. This simplistic design move helped us develop a minimalistic row housing facade keeping the client’s budget to the minimum. I understood with this project how only following the basic design criteria could help one develop an intricate design language easily.

THE MERCEDES TOMORROW

A COLLAGE REPRESENTING THE BRIDGE BETWEEN PAST AND FUTURE OF MERCEDES BENZ

MERCEDES TOMORROW

Mercedes Benz as a brand has a story to sell and tell its customers - starting from the 300 SL era to its exceptional transition to electric mobility in the recent years. This project is an incubator for Mercedes’ clientale to dip into the car giant’s boutique hotel offering a sensual pure Mercedes Benz experience.

Developed keeping in mind the current clientale of the brand. The project is mutlifaceted boutique hotel, amalgamating an experience center and a cafe with Mercedes style stay - Located near their LA store.

Material Strategy: Since the project is a commentary about transition, the different design moves play with the “dual nature” of the materials used. Finished & Unifinished/Raw yet Polished/Natural & Industrial

THE BEDROOM LOUNGE

The KIOSK-CAFE in the ground entrance is mainly inspired by warehouse architecture. Warehouses were the prime congregation spaces for the first Mercedes buyers. Luxury and brown leather from the 300SL classic seats are used in the lounge area and the kiosk chosen is an aluminium extrusion - to imitate a static yet dynamic looking object similar to a Mercedes Benz exterior.

The guest rooms are located in the third, and the fourth floors. Furniture here brings in the contrast in experience from the Left to right - from the classic Louis Poulson pieces to the contmeporary furniture and fixtures.

COMMUNITY CENTER MASTERPLAN Work with Dustudio, Auroville - Role: Architectural design/Interiors/Site Planning/ Detail development. The community center developed is a Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR) project accomodating multiple governing bodies and activities of the village. In addition to the Panchayat offices, the rammed earth construction developement also incubates, a public library, an area for daily market, Kund(courtyards), and an amphitheatre. The circulation spaces and the zoning of the community center is defined by the negatives spaces created by the elevated extended plinths around each structure.

COMMUNITY CENTER IN KALSAR, INDIA

The different scales of the pitched roofs imitate the character of the village’s housing in an effort to make this community center an extension of the village’s fabric. To lessen the sunny dryness and heat, the roof tiles have a skin of Guna tubes(earth vase tubes) that keep the buildings’ interior air conditioned naturally. The project to a majorityt translates or takes cues from the vernacular Indian practices to blend into the village’s cultural theme. - for instance the structure uses Rammed Earth wall systems which is a commonly used method to construct walls in this village.

In India, people are encouraged to sit on the floor, criss-rossing their legs. This is widely practiced in the context of a village. This prompted the thought about a play of levels with the plinth - hence the plinth is at an approximate seat height.

I found myself to be a better person, handed with a magnifying lens to see this world, after joining architecture school. Running behind the joy of developing meaningful spaces, I taught myself to appreciate the last details and the invisble processes, that construct the end product. I have kept myself open to the world of possibilities, styles, and necessities. My genuine work ethic goal is to have a rigor of a Michelin star chef’s, in a design studio. Hi, I am Nandan Pemmaraju, and I dedicate my life to learning things that lead to designing spaces, furniture, and objects.

I know nothing, but to curate and learn new things, to genuinely collaborate with people, and to design forever!
