SCHOOL PROJECT

SOUTH EAST CORNER RENDERING

CULTURAL DIASPORA The goal of this project was to create 4 spaces within an existing structure, for various diaspora communities. Representatives of these communities will cycle through every 6 months, showcasing their talents. The building will have to, thereby, host not only 4 flexible /theatrical spaces, but also their accomodations. Since this building was all about the diaspora of human culture, I thought of the building in simple terms; a journey, the building would guide peoples footsteps. Thereby making the circulation the core concept. There are three stairs, with their own distinct colors, that slice the building in half, bringing in light and movement in an otherwise ordinary structure. I attempted to create a sanctuary for the different communities; colorful in its varying plantations, warm and inviting everyone into its embrace. A place to celebrate the differences. Upon entering the lobby, people are visually guided to the first stair or the elevator which will take them up to the second floor. On both the second and third floors, the area around the stairs act as circulation, lounge and bar, bringing the different diaspora cultures together to meet and mingle. The 4 spaces have been appointed to the 4 corners of the building, while the private residences take advantage of the Southern Sun on two floors. //REVIT, PHOTOSHOP

RENDERING

COOPER CREEK RESIDENCE The second phase of a lovely vacation home in Michigan designed by our office, sits atop the dunes, with a fantastic view to the lake. We designed the wood structure to compliment and complete the house, with a basement, 2 floors and an attic. The annex uses the existing foundation for the main structure, following the existing angles while adding new foundation for the needs for the needs of the program. The structure may be small, but it is highly complicated with its varying angles in elevation, the different heights in floors, and the types of roof shapes. We gave precedence to the Master Bedroom and dining room to have the view of the lake, while the two bedrooms were given views of the woods in the East. The kitchen and the Master Bath also got a view to the Lake, while the garage needed to be easily accessible from the main road. The programming was done such that all ‘public’ rooms were on the main level, while the private ones were on the second. The client could walk in from the side entrance or the garage, and be led into shedding their outergear in the room, wash their hands, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the evening with the family on their patio or eat at the dinner table surrounded by water. They could go upstairs and hear the sounds of nature from their rooms, or enjoy the sunrise from the quaint deck privately. //SKETCHUP

SCHOOL PROJECT

RENDERING

WINDY CITY ROLLERS’ STADIUM I designed a home for the Windy City Rollers; a place they could feel that represented their grit, their honor, their power andv strength. Most of all, I designed a stadium that celebrated them and brought out their true nature. The roof was given utmost importance, making it the signifying characteristic of the building. I started experimenting with different patterns of origami and built on them from there. The pattern of the roof follows the path of entry, splitting off to the two rinks, to act as an architecture guide for fans. The roof was purposely kept at a low height, paying homage to their practice space while also creating a sense of intimacy and affinity between the people in the building. On the inside, the building takes form from its program which includes a bar, refreshment stands, restrooms, merchandise, offices, and the players changing rooms.

PROFESSIONAL PROJECT

GREEN LINE ARTS CENTER EAST We were asked to build a low budget small theater project, located in the South side of Chicago. One that would vitalize the neighborhood and bring people together. Armed with a small program, focusing on the rehearsal room and the theater spaces, we renovated three small adjoining buildings into one. The exterior of the building was given significant design importance, to make the locals curious about the building, to help bring up the energy of the locality, and to give it a vital stamp. The black bricks were provided by the clients, which helped guide the design of the facade. There are three different ways in which the brick has been used, one where the facade is flat brick, second with the punched openings and third with the brick alternatively popping out. There are also 9 glass bricks that create shadow boxes in the rehearsal room and are the last of the brick openings. The programming was kept simple with the public areas in the front of the building, while back of house was in the South. Even for a small project such as this, we used MEP engineers, lighting consultants, theater consultants, acoustic consultants, structural engineers, landscape and civil engineers.
