Coffee in Chikmagalur is a symbol of pride and identity. Balehonnur, a small town which is part of Chikmagalur district is predominately an agro-based lifestyle. However due to a clear social hierarchy, not all farmers have a decent economic status. This project intends to create opportunities for those farmers to market their smaller produces, as well as for passers-by to learn about the journey of their coffee from “bean to cup.” The design process used in this looked at 2 main aspects: coffee, cultural identity. The design intends to use tropical design principles and is rooted in traditional techniques to imitate a mini forest with luscious landscape throughout the site which provides for each and everyone who uses it.

SLANT STUDIO SEMESTER 5 Mentors: Ar.Seema Anand, Ar.Gaurav Sareen, Ar.Mahalakshmi Karnad, Ar.Archana Ramesh
Architecture and construction industry are one of the largest contributers of energy consumption and pollution. The practices used recently are a “one time use” method producing massive waste which can be hardly reused. The studio focused on finding solutions to architectural issues through bio-mimicry, by learning from the principles and strategies of nature and organisms. The project is a Tech exhibition and awareness centre, that aims at creating
awareness among the people about the positive and negative aspects of technology, collection of e-waste from the neighboring tech-parks “Ebanks” which would be sent to the nearest ewaste recycling plant.

Every object in nature has multiple purpose and never associated with single function. Nature does adapt and reuse selective materials to solve any new challenge. Various forms are created to provide sufficient strength to the structure with the same selective materials. Simple modules differing in size make larger complex structures.

The site is in Gawchiboli, the financial district of Hyderabad. The site is in close-proximity of popular MNC and IT Companies, ISB and other tech parks - large contributers of e-waste (which is becoming an issue in HYD) making the program apt for the site.

The design aims at modularity and multiplexity in terms of modules and space. Since the modules are made using panel-frame pre-fab system, they could be easily dismantled and reused whenever necessary. Multiple variations in the design could be achieved through combinations of the given modules.

This project will speculate on fragments, that pre-suppose a totality (either lost or promised), to which the elements on site belong, to craft a narrative of a heterotropia, in the urban realm. The models and the visuals telescope into the larger idea of dealing with ‘Hybrid Typologies’ as the collective.

Sacred Space: YU-J COMPETITION ENTRY Team : Jahnavi.J , Fariah Inas 2020
“We are searching some kind of harmony between two intangibles: a form which we have not yet designed and a context which we cannot properly describe.” - Christopher Alexander Can sacred spaces be placed in th centre of the noisiest cities? At time here land in overcroded urban scenarios is becoing incresingly difficult to acuire, we have tto look for subsstitutes for uiter spaces. Yu-j is an endeavor to design sacred saces at the nodess in well- developed cities. Yu-j studies and cobines the patterns of soundss which are coonly encountered in divierse spiritual places for city environmnts that are reiniscent of every sinle sacred spaces.

COMPETITION ENTRY
With integration of diffused light, textured all panels and sell of incense along its hallways, Yu-j creates a holistic approach towards modern “sacred” spaces. Yu-j is inspired by Indian traditions of worshipping nature, with a centre water body and all places facing it. The walls facing the water body are articulated with multi-colored threads as a homage to this rich culture. The OAT around the water body acts as gathering space which hosts many activities taking place here.
The site chosen is Mandi House Circle : one of the ain round-abouts of Delhi, India’s capital city This particular circle, like many others around the city has a diameter of 80m. This design cn be adapted to any other convergence in an urban context.
