In the iconic Harry Potter book and film series, one of the most intriguing elements invented by author J.K. Rowling was the sport of Quidditch, played by wizards and witches atop flying brooms. A version of the sport is now played on hundreds of college campuses, minus the flying.

Sometimes we don’t know how good we have it until it’s gone. A hyper-neurotic man has a moment of doubt just as he’s about to propose to his long-time girlfriend. His extremely attractive assistant professes interest, leading to an unfortunate choice. Can he win back his true love who has decamped to Paris?

HOW TO FESTIVAL OVERVIEW

FILMMAKER Q&A’S

The Napa Valley Film Festival takes place November 12 – 16 (Wednesday through Sunday) in the four walk-able villages of Napa, Yountville, St. Helena, and Calistoga, where 125 films, 250 filmmakers, 150 wineries and 30 chefs will actively engage our audiences. Each town has a Village Center, multiple screening venues, a wine pavilion, “passholder perks” and special events taking place throughout each day. Explore this guide to start building your very own ultimate film, food and wine experience.

In an effort to make the Festival more interactive, we encourage filmmakers to attend and conduct a Q&A after the film. This is a great opportunity to ask them your questions about the making of the film.

ATTENDING The best way to experience the festival is with a pass, which we offer at various price points. We do not sell advance tickets to individual film screenings; but we do offer last minute rush tickets to screenings, panels, culinary demonstrations, and wine pavilions after all passholders have been admitted. For full details, please see the section labeled FESTIVAL ACCESS in this guide or on nvff.org.

FILM PROGRAM Each year, we consider over 1,000 films to create an entertaining and thought-provoking program for our audiences to enjoy and discuss. The program includes both films screening in competition as well as out-of-competition, with both Juried and Audience Awards presented at our Awards Ceremony on Closing Night. The films are grouped into the following sections: • • • • • •

Red Carpet Screenings Narrative Features Competition Documentary Features Competition Lounge Features Special Screenings Shorts Programs

Always check our website for the most current and complete list and description of films and screening details at nvff.org.

Most Festival films do not have MPAA ratings attached. Therefore parents should carefully read film descriptions and use their discretion when considering what might be appropriate for their children.

There is an order in which audiences are admitted into each screening venue, panel discussion, culinary demonstration and wine pavilion. Members of our Patron Circle enter first, followed by Pass Plus holders, and then Festival Pass and Day Pass holders. Non-passholders wait in a Rush Line and may purchase tickets if space remains available after all passholders have entered. All passholders must arrive no later than 20 minutes prior to show time. A pass does not guarantee a seat, so please be aware of venue capacities and arrive early for the most popular films. One individual must be present for each seat. Since seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis, you must be present in the theater to have claim to a seat. NAPAFILMFEST

FOOD & WINE We’ve integrated Napa Valley’s incomparable food and wine into the film festival experience. You will enjoy complimentary wine tastings at most screening venues and Stella Artois will pour at select locations. Wine pavilions are the place to be each mid/ late afternoon. Food and wine are cleverly paired and served up at all of our special events, most notably the blowout Festival Gala. Top Napa Valley vintners open their private estates to host our Vintner Circle Dinners. And our winning filmmakers are presented with large-format collectible bottles of Napa Valley’s finest wines.

PLAN YOUR SCHEDULE Since many films screen at multiple venues, you can maximize your film, food and wine experience each day without having to drive all over the Valley. Use this Festival Planner both before and during the Festival, to plan your experience. Detailed Film Descriptions & Screening Times (pages 8-65) Information on Screening Venues by Village (pages 42-43) Daily Film and Major Event Schedule by Venue (pages 44-53) Listing and Schedule of Festival Events, Wine Pavilions, Culinary Demonstrations, Film Industry Panels (pages 66-75)

Make your lodging plans early, as rooms fill up quickly. Be sure to say that you are coming in for the Film Festival, as most lodging properties offer special festival rates. All official Festival Lodging Partners can be found at nvff.org.

Program Goals: • To expose students to films, filmmakers and subjects that open minds and spark conversation about critical, relevant and timely issues. • To provide instruction and technical resources through workshops, internships and summer opportunities to inspire and motivate students with a desire to pursue filmmaking as a means of self-expression.

Napa Valley Film Festival, a non-profit organization, celebrates the cinematic arts and enriches the community by presenting an annual world-class festival and year-round education and outreach programs.

• To reach more that 3,500 students, parents and other community members throughout the year through unique programs both in school, in the community, and at each year’s film festival.

STUDENT SHORTS—AWARD WINNERS

SUN 9:00 AM MERCEDES-BENZ, N

Paul Baker & Ron Hofmann

In conjunction with the Cameo Cinema's Family Film Festival in May, Napa Valley Film Festival presented a Student Short Film Competition. All films had to be five minutes or less. Four winners were chosen by a panel of expert judges: an overall winner, and one each for High School, Middle School, and Elementary School. We are proud to give our local student filmmakers an opportunity to have their films screened at the festival.

It is our entire automotive   philosophy set in motion.   Again.

128 years ago, our founder challenged his employees to deliver “the best or nothing.” His words still resonate to this day. The groundbreaking 2015 S-Class features dual 12.3" high-resolution screens, hot stone massage seating and a revolutionary system, MAGIC BODY CONTROL, that scans the road and instantly adjusts the suspension for a superior ride. The 2015 S-Class. It not only makes a statement—it answers a calling.

2015 S 550 shown in Iridium Silver metallic paint. May include optional equipment. No system, regardless of how advanced, can overcome the laws of physics or correct careless driving.
