Graduation Project Verb of architecture 22.04-15.10.2019

Intro.

The process to build on a real site can explain meaing of architecture as itself. My graduation project tried to answer the question, "What is the verb of architecture?" with a series of 3 plans involving this pavilion project. This third project was aimed to build on a real site where my campus has been located at. I believe that the answer was revealed while I dealt with the real conditions to build it on a real site. During this project, there is no one supporting me to construct the pavilion on our campus. Therefore I had to do it myself from surveying the site to checking regulations of law, finding funding and design. To deal with these real conditions, I should use natural factors like a shadow, sunlight and design a pavilion easy to construct and also deconstruct. Unfortunately, I couldn't build it on a real site, but I exhibited the process of these failures.

01. Preface

Auditorium Paicahi University was established in 1977 in Doma-dong, Daejeon city, South Korea. On 31 January 1986, after the ROTC course was approved in the University, this Auditorium involving ROTC dormitory was bulit. It has been used as an outdoor auditorium and worship space, but the utilization rate decreased due to the expansion of the campus in the 2000s. In addition, it was abandoned for a long time because it was difficult to change its use due to the semi-circular terraced structure and old pine trees stuck between the stairs. However, the topographical features and natural ecosystem of Dosol Mountain, where the university is located, were well preserved in this place. It became a place where some students and local residents often take a rest without any purpose. the aerial photo of university outdoor and the photo of auditorium | date:2019.04.24

PINE TREE - SHADE

There was no basic data such as the site plans to start the project. Therefore, I had to draw site plans on the site. Through the investigation, I caught the natural phenomenon that pine trees provide a shelter to people with shade. Based on this relationship, I designed the pavilion whose shade interacts with tree's shade.

INSIDE SPACE FOR COMPEPITION

External Work+ Architecture Exhibition

WRONG EXHIBTIION

Zeitgeist: Engagement of Architecture This competition was aimed to make an exhibition for an inside place, but I would make the entire building into an object for exhibition itself. The title of the exhibition is "Wrong Exhibition" which gives visitors or citizens passing by the building a question about the building and architecture. The original plan was aimed to block all openings of the building, but there is some conflict with curators and organisation who want to use inside places. Therefore, just only 1floor was blocked with wooden panels covered concreted paint.
