Naval Hospital staff trains in ‘Room of Errors’ Article and photos by MCSA Cameron Bramham The Signature Staff Hospital Corpsmen at Naval Hospital Sigonella participated in the first annual "Room of Errors,” a fiveday training exercise held at the hospital from Oct. 25-Oct. 29. The purpose of the exercise was, using an interactive method, helping the staff members understand what mistakes and errors can happen in the hospital and how to prevent these types of incidents from happening. The hospital staff followed the National Patient Safety Guidelines (NPSG) for the training, Naval Hospital Sigonella Command Patient Safety Officer, Lt. Lynn Skinner said. "This way they get excited about training, where they want to participate and be fully active in the exercise," Skinner said. "We want them to take this to heart and that this reduces the number of mistakes to keep our patients safe." The exercises consisted of different scenarios using mannequins as props and simulated injuries and possible hazardous conditions for a patient being treated at the hospital. It was each corpsman's job to find each problem with the patient, and then

come up with a solution for each exercise. Some examples of hazards to patients included making sure the patient had correct identification tags, correct medication and understanding the risk population. Some hazards simulated for the room were beds that were unlocked and had no side rails, as well as an adult patient and infant in the same bed at the same time. "It's a fun way of looking at a serious subject and it's also more interesting than giving them a lecture or test," said Skinner. "It's another way of reinforcing something that we do every day." Multi Service Ward hospital corpsman seaman and first-time participant James Hammond said it was a good way to get everybody up-todate on patient safety and that the hospital did a good job making it entertaining. "You might miss a few things and this helps everybody get a refresher course on patient safety and what it means to our patients," Hammond said. "They made it fun to learn about patient safety instead of just reading it out of a book or a powerpoint." TRAINING, continued on page 12 Nov. 6 H: 74 L: 57

Direct Line The holiday season is upon us and it is full of travel opportunities, long weekends that are perfect for get-togethers, and the excitement of gifts and other holiday traditions. This time also has the potential to very dangerous because of changing weather, longer drives, increased use of fryers, and the onset of the holiday blues. A little common sense and a bit of neighborly concern can go a long way towards making this season fun and accident free for all. Cooking, grilling and frying food is a key part of most holiday celebrations but it must be done in a safe and responsible manner keeping a few safety tips in mind. Whether you are cooking indoors, grilling or using a turkey fryer, always watch what you are cooking and never leave the stove or oven unattended in order to prevent a potential fire in the home. When grilling, place your grill in a well-ventilated area and

away from the children’s play area. Also stand upwind from the grill when lighting the fire and wear tight fitting clothing because loose clothing could easily catch on fire. If using a turkey fryer for your Thanksgiving feast, ensure that you read the instruction manual. Ensure that your turkey is completely defrosted and dry. Operate the fryer in an open, well ventilated area ensure that no one gets burned. It’s not a bad idea to have either CO2 or dry fire extinguishing agent on hand – just in case….. Driving Sicily can be more of a challenge than in the states, especially during the rainy season. However by remembering a few common sense precautions will not only ensure your own safety but the safety of your family and friends. Slow down while driving and don’t attempt to drive like the locals. Don’t pass other cars illegally and
Improve your PRT Article by Lt. Cmdr. Kimberly Musa This PRT season is coming to a close. How did you do? Start now to improve your score in the spring! Find a friend to train with, someone that will push you when you need encouragement. Maintain a healthy diet – your body needs the proper nutrients to fuel your fitness program. T o improve your push-ups, try this twice a week: Divide your push-up score by five. (John did 50 push-ups on his last PRT: 50/5 = 10). Every 30 seconds for five minutes, John does 10 push-ups. Just wait until the fourth minute… ouch! John will do 100 push-ups in five minutes. If this gets easy, start adding one or two extra repetitions to each set. To improve your sit-ups, try this three times a week: Divide your sit-up score by three (John did 75 sit-ups on his last PRT: 75/3 = 25.) Do three sets of 25 situps with a 1-minute rest between each set. After three workouts, add three sit-ups to each set. use caution when a legal pass is possible. Get enough rest before long drives and force yourself to stop and rest if you become tired on the road. Ensure you use caution and reduce your speed in wet weather conditions. The roads can become very slick and you can easily lose control of your car if you are driving too fast. Never drink and drive. I repeat – never drink and drive. If alcohol is in your plans – driving can’t be. Have a plan that includes a designated driver or taxi which covers you for that night and the next morning to ensure enough time to sober up. If your plan does not survive first contact with the enemy – don’t be afraid to admit it and get help. There is not a single tenant command or NASSIG department that won’t help one of their Sailors in need. Call your LPO, CPO or Div O if you need help. If you can get ahold of them – contact by Security folks. I’ll have them come
get you. And before you ask – the first stop will NOT be at Bldg 606 to fill out the Security paperwork. Lastly, I want to emphasize that we all need to look out for our friends, family members, coworkers, and housing neighbors during the Holiday season. If you notice that a buddy or loved one has the holiday blues, talk to them about it. Find ways to include them in holiday activities and make them feel included. Holidays far away from family and friends can be stressful and depressing. Catching these signs early will ensure the safety and well being of our entire community. If you don’t feel qualified to talk to them, take the first step and contact someone. The NAS Sigonella Chaplains and FFSC both have caring staff trained to assist and both are more than willing to reach out and help someone in need. Bottom-line is to stay safe over
the holidays. Whether it is grilling safety, driving responsibly, or looking out for a shipmate, it is up to all of us to make the right choices and ensure a safe holiday season.

People of great quality and taste Looking here and everywhere, I find people of great quality and taste! Our Navy has invited us not just to join her and see the world. In a real sense, we are called and challenged to face every possible situation, and to respond it the best way. There is such great diversity of people with quality and taste. Some have been blessed with an infectious sense of humor that lifts and brightens our days, some have a gift of compassion and are able to sense and share other’s hurts and sorrows and needs, some others have the gift of insight and understanding and patiently share with us that knowledge that enable us to do our work better or see things more clearly. Some have the amazing power to see problems as opportunities and obstacles as challenges. Some have the gift of perseverance which keeps on where weaker men would give up and challenges us to give our best. What is your best quality and taste? The following story reflects a real life situation. A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too
fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something. As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag’s side door! He slammed on the brakes and drove the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown. The angry driver then jumped out of the car. He grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked card shouting, “What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That‘s a new car and the brick you threw is going to cost you a lot of money. Why did you do it?” The young boy was apologetic. “Please, mister…please, I’m sorry…I didn’t know what else to do,” he pleaded. “I threw the brick because no one else would stop…”With tear dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. “It is my brother,” he said. “He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can’t lift him up” Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive. “Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He is hurt and he is too heavy for me.” Moving beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out his fancy handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh crapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. “Thank you and God bless you,” the grateful child told the stranger. .The damage in the Jaguar was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message “Don’t go through life too fast that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!”

Try E-Leave for the Holidays Article by MC1 LaTunya Howard Navy Personnel Command Public Affairs MILLINGTON, Tenn. (NNS) -- With the holiday season just around the corner, the Navy took time Oct. 26 to remind Sailors about the ease of using the new electronic leave (E-Leave) system. E-Leave allows Sailors to electronically submit leave chits through their chain of command for approval, replacing the traditional paper leave form. It also offers commands automated leave log management, ensuring pay and entitlements are properly accounted for with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS). The new system was introduced, tested and implemented in just a few months. All shore commands, personnel support detachments and command administrators are required to be fully integrated no later than Nov. 1. "Leave transactions, which account for 20 percent of all Navy pay transactions processed annually, were submitted to DFAS late more than any other pay-impacting event," said Capt. Hank Vitali, Personnel Service Delivery Transformation Office, Navy Personnel Command (NPC). "ELeave was developed to reverse this trend. We are 100 percent implemented, 100 percent in timeliness

Both have the National Championship on the line, so expect fireworks from both squads. The game will be a close one as both teams have a fantastic offense and defense, but after that hour of play time, I expect to see TCU come out on top. ABH1 Clifton: GOTW: At first glance, I laughed at the match-up because traditionally these teams are not even televised. But, in a season where all teams are created equal, this game has possible championship implications riding on it. Like Capt. Beadles, I too have never laid eyes on a horned toad, but have been told they are magnificent beasts. Combining his tactics of ferocious animals with Diem’s strategy of pretty uniforms, the Purple of Texas Christian University will triumph this weekend. LSSA Diem: They are both undefeated teams, which is uncommon for this late in the season. Going to be a good game, but I pick the Red-Tailed Hawks for the WIN! Go Utah!!!

5 tips to rescue a sinking interview Marchi
L’Orso Scuro
Article provided by FFSC You're 10 minutes late, you spilled coffee on your shirt, and your ice-breaking joke only created an awkward silence. You say to yourself, "I am doomed," and give up before the interview has even started. Confidence, charm, and honesty can still salvage this trainwreck of an interview. Instead of getting beaten by bad luck, take a deep breath, relax, and smile. Use the 5 methods discussed below to turn the interview around. 1. Be upfront. The last thing an interviewer wants to hear is a list of excuses he or she has heard a thousand times before. Trying to cover your tracks like this is just a waste of breath and could potentially insult your interviewer's intelligence. Take a different approach. Replace a list of excuses with the following sequence of events. 1. Identify the problem first - tell the interviewer about the mistake before he can address it. 2. Admit fault - apologize for the problem and recognize your shortcomings as the cause. 3. Explain typical behavior - let the interview know that mistakes, like being late, are unforeseen occurrences and that you normally don't make them.
2. Ask questions. Occasionally, you may start to feel uncomfortable during an interview. If you do not manage to regain composure, the interview will only go downhill. Taking focus away from you buys time. Sometimes turning the tables can also turn the interview around. Asking questions will force the interviewer to talk and possibly mention characteristics he is looking for. In keeping questions as a back up plan, be sure to: 1. Prepare - come up with some questions ahead of time and make sure they are appropriate to the particular company and position. 2. Pay attention - don't just ask a question and then zone out as you regroup. The interviewer could be giving you valuable information or ask you a question in response. 3. Get feedback. One easy way to lose your cool is to get halfway through answering a question only to discover that the interviewer is bored beyond belief. There is no need to be scared…yet. This is another place where questions can help. Instead of using questions to get comfortable, use questions to get information. Your response may not be answering the right question, the question may have been unclear, or you may be spouting an incoherent nonsense. If you are caught in this situation:
Orange Park
Pentagon
1. Stop - Do not be afraid to break mid-answer to ask a clarification question. 2. Be direct - if clarification does not put you at ease, ask the interviewer if he has any concerns about you as a candidate for the position. 4. Try flattery. A good mood is contagious. If you can get the interviewer into a happier state of mind, you may manage to give the mood of the entire interview a boost. Plus, nobody minds the occasional compliment. Whether it's a nice word about the company, the office, or the culture, a compliment can go a long way in a rough interview. Choosing which compliments to pay, however, is not a simple task. Take to heart these suggestions before you start dropping kind words: 1. Show preparation - consider paying a compliment that shows you have done research on the company, such as commenting on a shift in strategy or other recent business decision. 2. Be sincere - a compliment has the ability to make you appear to be an upbeat person; do not let a poor attitude offset that. 3. Don't push It - compliments should not be too numerous, too personal, or too emphatic; eventually an interviewer will see through your ploy. 5. Move on. Sometimes you can be fully qualified, answer every question perfectly, and make all the right decisions, but still get a cold shoulder from an interviewer. At these times, you have to remember: it's not your fault. No matter how confident and qualified you are, you are not in complete control of the interview. You have bad days from time to time. Interviewers can have bad days too, and that can affect INTERVIEW, continued on page 12

Nebrodi Black Pig and Porcino Mushroom Festival this weekend in Cesarò The Sagra del Suino Nero e del Fungo Porcino dei Nebrodi (Nebrodi Black Pig and Porcino Mushroom Festival ) will be held this weekend (Nov. 5 through 7) in Cesarò at the town's public gardens (villa Aldo Moro). The event will celebrate the mouthwatering Nebrodi Black Pig and the Porcino mushroom. As reported by homefood.it, the Nebrodi black pig's presence in the Nebrodi woods dates back to the Greek period of Carthage (VIII -VI sec. to. C.). This animal is a wild pig very similar to the wild boar that lives in a free state feeding on the foods found in the covered grounds of the woods. Delicious prosciutto, salami and sausages are made from its meat after it is cured with salt. Nebrodi Black Pig is one of the 28 Sicilian "presìdi slow food" (protected breed threatened with extinction). As reported by
slowfoodfoundation.org, Slow Food "Presìdi" indeed sustain quality production at risk of extinction, protect unique regions and ecosystems, recover traditional processing methods, and
safeguard native breeds and local plant varieties. The Presidia directly involve producers, offer technical assistance to improve production quality, organize exchanges among different countries, provide new market outlets (both locally and internationally). Slow Food is an international membersupported nonprofit association and a worldwide network of people committed to improving the way food is produced and distributed. Festival specialties will include: "risotto ai porcini" (porcini mushroom's risotto), "arrosto di suino nero dei Nebrodi" (roast of Nebrodi Black Pig), "pane caldo condito con olio sale e peperoncino" (freshly baked bread dressed with olive oil, salt and chili pepper and other delicacies). Cesarò is a picturesque Sicilian town located on the slopes of the N e b r o d i Mountains ( M e s s i n a province) and park, near Bronte. The Nebrodi Park was created in 1993 spreading over an area of forests which makes the largest in Sicily. Its inhabitants have
preserved the uniqueness of this setting, keeping their differences from the rest of the island by their language which still has some features of the French-Lombard dialect. The forest is situated between 1200 and 1500 m above sea level. Cesaro' has a special longstanding good relationship with the US Navy which began in 1996 when an HC-4 helicopter helped the population to place a 7,000-pound statue of Christ on top of a mountain. The festival will also include arts as well as crafts and entertainment. For more information and detailed festival schedules visit http://www.comune.cesaro.me.it/ or call 095-696369.

Italian seaside town bans 'scanty clothing' Story by AFP
ROME — Skimpily-clothed women in the town of Castellammare di Stabia in southern Italy are to be fined by the police under new regulations banning "very scanty clothing". The ban will include skirts judged to be too short, jeans that are too low-slung and necklines that are too plunging and is intended to guard against anti-social behaviour, a spokesman for the town council told AFP. Mayor Luigi Bobbio of Italy's ruling People of Freedom party defended the much-derided new legislation, which prompted a small protest by female members of the opposition Democratic Party who held a "Mini-skirt Day" rally. "Mini-skirts are not included in the ban. Mini-skirts are not considered very scanty clothing unless they're so small that they are no longer a skirt and they leave the undergarment showing," Bobbio said before the vote. Following the vote, he said
the ban made Castellammare "a civilized city." But a protester outside the town council on Monday held up a placard reading: "The only ones in just their underwear are Castellammare's workers" -- an apparent reference to threatened job cuts at the town's shipyard. The new rules also ban blaspheming, sunbathing in public and playing football in many public areas -- a hugely popular pastime in the town. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's government has given Italy's mayors greater powers to enforce measures seen as improving public order. Fine for women wearing miniskirts in Italian beach town The mayor of Castellammare di Stabia, south of Naples, Italy, has ordered police in the beach town to fine women who wear "very short" miniskirts or who show too much cleavage. Luigi Bobbio, who was elected on Silvio Berlusconi's People of Freedom party ticket, won the
vote to ban clothing considered "very short", like miniskirts that do not fully cover the underwear. ccording to the Corriere del Mezzogiorno, Bobbio said he had faith in officers making snap decisions, and that they now have the power to hand out 300-euro fines to offenders on the spot. "They won't need to carry out checks up close. One glance will be enough to judge," the Guardian quoted Bobbio as saying. But the new rule, which had been approved by the town council, has drawn outrage from local centre-left politicians, who mounted a sit-in outside the town hall and called the Bobbio administration male chauvinist. "By equating women's clothing with urban decorum, this measure implies women are no more than benches or hedges," councillor Angela Cortese said. The miniskirt ban is one of 41 new decorum measures introduced by Bobbio. (ANI)

Dott. Film about Amanda Knox ‘horrible thought’ says family
Motta
Article by AFP/ANSA (ANSA) - Rome - Meredith Kercher's family said a film about the British exchange student's murder in Perugia three years ago is a ''horrible thought'' with two productions being developed. Shooting has just started in central Italy on the first, a made-for-TV US film focusing on Amanda Knox, Kercher's American flatmate who was convicted of the murder and is appealing against a 26-year prison term. Knox's former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and Ivory Coast native Rudy Guede are also appealing against convictions for the November 2 2007 murder, which allegedly took place while Kercher was being sexually assaulted. The movie, entitled The Amanda Knox Story, features rising star Hayden Panettiere playing Knox, whose good looks led to her frequently being called 'foxy Knoxy'. ''I don't like the idea of a film based on Meredith's death. Seeing it graphically portrayed on the big screen is a horrible thought,'' Meredith's father John Kercher told the British media.
Old Wild West
Her mother Arline added that she did not ''understand how it can be called The Amanda Knox Story when in reality it's the story of my daughter''. Seattle-born Knox, who has many supporters in her American homeland who say she is the innocent victim of a miscarriage of justice, is also against the story being made into a film and is refusing to meet Panettiere to help her with the part. ''We find it very inopportune,'' Knox's lawyer Carlo Della Vedova told The Seattle Times. ''There is no way that this actress can meet Amanda while she is in jail''. The other planned movie is a British picture by Michael Winterbottom reportedly featuring Colin Firth as an investigative reporter. ''When you read about the case, there seems to be no convincing explanation for what happened,'' Winterbottom said recently. ''We are certainly not going to be saying this person is innocent, or that person is guilty. But we will be asking is this system of justice fair?'' ROME — Amanda Knox, the young American convicted of the sexmurder of a British student in Italy, has spoken of her wish for motherhood and a writing career, according to comments published Sunday from a new book. Knox, 23, is quoted in the book as saying that she longs to live a normal life and the book contains two nostalgia-filled poems that refer to returning home and escaping from a grim reality into a world of dreams and memories.

She says she has been given 200 books and access to a computer in prison. She also says that the chaplain in her prison in Perugia has told her she could become a nun because of the sincerity with which she reads her prayers, even though she admits she is not religious and has not been baptized. "I miss my family. I have friends who are like brothers and sisters to me. I want to live," she is quoted as saying in the Italian-language book entitled "Take Me With You: Talks with Amanda Knox in Prison" due out on Tuesday. "I would like to marry later on and I have to find the right person. But one thing I have always wanted is to adopt a child," she says in another passage. Extracts from the book were published in Italian by the ANSA news agency. The book is by Italian lawmaker Rocco Girlanda, president of the ItalyUSA Foundation, who has taken a personal interest in the case and has visited Knox. "I think it's completely inappropriate..., I don't think visiting this girl in prison merits a book," Francesco Maresca, the lawyer for the family of Knox's victim, 21-year-old Meredith Kercher, told AFP. Maresca also said Kercher's family was annoyed by a film that is being made about the case in which US actress Hayden Panettiere will play Knox."It's too early to see this story in film," Maresca said.

Have you ever wondered why you only see old men sitting out on park benches? My theory is that their wives are doing one of two things: 1) laundry, or 2) making pasta. I’m going to guess that while the laundry is drying, the wise women are busy preparing that evening’s dinner. And when you taste the difference between fresh pasta and the store bought stuff, it’s no wonder these ladies spend hours of their day making it from scratch. Andrea from FFSC took a group of 25 eager and willing cooks to a rustic home of Graziella Lo Terzo and her cousin Giusy out in the town of Pedagaggi to learn the tricks of the pasta making trade. The recipe is quite easy, but it’s the combination that can be a little tricky. First off, you’ll need to get a bag of semola flour. The bag will say semola rimacinata, and will most
likely say “ideale per pasta” on it. The only other ingredient you need is water. Think you can handle that? Now, this is how the magic happens. For an Italian serving of pasta for two people, or one Olive Garden-type/American serving, pile a mound of 200 grams, or 7 oz., of flour on a flat surface and, in a cup, measure 120 grams of water. With your hands, make a well with the flour. Slowly, slowly, slowly pour in some of the water into the middle of the well, and begin incorporating the flour with the water, not breaking the circle yet. As you combine, keep slowly adding water until everything is mixed. You’ll mix the flour from the inside of the circle to the outer rim. Now, you need to knead. A lot. You can never knead too much, and the more you knead, the better the pasta will turn out. Put a little muscle in it. The dough is done when it is smooth and soft, but not too soft. It’s really all about the feel of the dough.
When it’s ready, it will no longer stick to your hands. If the dough is too sticky or soft, add a little bit of flour to it. The next step is to cut a small piece of dough and roll it into a stick that is about ½ inch thick. Cut off small bits (around ½ inch long) from the roll and sprinkle the cut pieces of dough with flour to help them from not sticking to one another. At this stage, you can freeze the dough and use it later, and it will keep for a long time in the freezer. You’ll need to freeze the pieces on a tray first before transferring to a plastic bag, so that the pieces won’t stick together and form one big lump of dough. From here, you’re ready to make your pasta. In the class, we were taught how to make cavatelli pasta, which originates in Puglia and resembles a spiral shell. First, you need to put some flour into the container that you are going to place each piece of pasta. Next, using a special board that you can find in some specialty cooking stores, or from a truck that parks itself every
Monday morning outside the gate to the left of NAS I, take one piece of pasta and press and roll it with your thumb to create the cavatelli. To get the right shape, you need to roll it with a quick motion and to make sure you have plenty of flour on both the pasta and the board. You can also buy a pasta making machine that will do a lot of this work for you, but where’s the challenge and feeling of accomplishment in that? To cook, put some of the pieces in a pot of salted and oiled boiling water, and cook 5-6 minutes, tasting to ensure it’s done. An authentic dish that is typically used with this type of pasta is a bell pepper sauce with sausage. To make the sauce, take a couple bell peppers of varying shades, a handful of fresh basil, salt to taste, ¼ of a red onion, one clove of garlic, and 2 spoonfuls of olive oil and sauté. After everything is soft, transfer to a blender and puree it, adding more oil to get the right consistency. In the class, the sausage was served after the pasta, but I don’t think there
would be anything wrong with making your sausage and cutting it into chunks and adding it to the pasta, but that might be totally taboo, so proceed with caution and don’t blame me if a Sicilian yells at you for breaking tradition. The FFSC cooking class is an excellent way of learning some of the authentic Sicilian recipes. Andrea is changing up the way the class is offered. Instead of going to popular restaurants, he’s been scouring nearby towns to find passionate cooks who are willing and enthusiastic about teaching Americans their love of traditional Italian food in a more rustic setting. I highly encourage you to sign up. The class is usually held on the last Thursday of every month, but since the last Thursday in November is Thanksgiving, the class will be held on Nov. 17, leaving from the FFSC at 9:30 a.m. and we will be learning how to make a pistachio encrusted meat dish, along with BBQ grilled artichokes. To sign up for this class or to get more information, call 624-4291.
These are the only materials you need for making your own pasta. Semola flour and water. You also can use a special ridged board to help form and shape your cavatelli. We were greeted with an aperitif of a blend of celery and lemon juice.

Start by making a well in 200 grams of semola flour. Slowly mix in 120 grams of water, starting from the inside of the well to the outside.
Eventually you’ll end up with a ball of pasta dough. The dough needs to be kneaded a LOT and with a lot of strength. The end result will be soft and will not stick to your hands.

This recipe is kid-proof!
Roll the dough into a log and cut 1/2 inch cubes from the log. To make cavatelli, get a ridged board and press and roll each piecec of dough down the board, making a shell-like shape. Cook in boiling water for 5-6 minutes and taste to ensure it’s done.

NAS Sigonella Fire Inspector
This fire occurred approximately two weeks ago at a CONUS Naval Instillation. It happened in a barracks room of a military member while he was deployed. The fire was due to an electrical cord being pinched, at the outlet, between the wall and the member’s headboard. These are some important tips to remember at home, in the work place, classroom and in barrack rooms: • Check all of our appliances and ensure that you are not overloading outlets. • Do not have any furniture feet edges pinching/resting on top of electrical wiring. • Do not run electrical cords under carpets. • Keep drapes and bedding away from electrical outlets. • Ensure that your furniture is not pushed up against electrical plugs and outlets. • Electricity is an ignition source. Remember if you are at home when a fire occurs, GET OUT and STAY OUT! If you have not changed your batteries in your smoke detectors this Fall, change them now. Smoke alarms: A sound we can live with.

Gloriana is an American Country Music group founded in 2008. The band is composed of two brothers Tom and Mike Gossin, as well as Rachel Reinert, and Cheyenne Kimball. Gloriana has an amazing story of how the four members came together. Brothers Tom and Mike Gossin started playing music in high school, moving from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to Nashville, where they started performing around town as a duo. They met Reinart through her Myspace page, trading messages with the young singer-songwriter, who had received her first publishing deal at 15. They had never thought about adding a female voice to their act, but they loved the sound of her high harmony with their own. After moving to Nashville, she began performing with the Gossins. The fourth and final piece of the Gloriana puzzle was Kimball, who won the NBC talent show “America’s Most Talented Kid” in 2003. Soon after, Cheyenne caught the trio performing in town, and loved them. After the show, she went up to them and asked if she could jam with them sometime. When they did, there was magic. Soon after, she was asked to join the group. After cutting some demos and sending them around town, the band was contacted by Emblem Records, which signed the
group and sent them into the studio. The band then began the song writing process. As the songs started coming together, the group decided to test them out at their weekly performance at Bakersfield's Crystal Palace. This helped them perfect their stage skills, and see which songs the crowds enjoyed the most. Gloriana released its debut single “Wild at Heart” in early 2009, which has become a Top 20 hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Later that year they released the self titled album Gloriana, which peaked at #2 on Top Country Albums. Gloriana has opened for many of their peers to include Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Brooks & Dunn, Alan Jackson, LeAnn Rimes and The Zac Brown Band. In addition the band has appeared on Good Morning America, The Today Show, Access Hollywood, Ellen, and E! News. They Have won awards for “Best New Vocal Group” at the 2009 ACMs; Breakthrough Artist of the Year” at the 2009 AMAs; and a CMT Music Video award. With their soaring four-part harmonies and electric stage presence Navy Entertainment bring you, the great people of Sigonella, Gloriana. CITIZENS, continued from page 1 with a video message about the pride associated with becoming a naturalized citizen. It was followed by the reciting of the oath of allegiance, and a message from the president of the United States. The ceremony closed with a video montage to the music of “America the Beautiful.” For some people, the road to citizenship involved years of their lives. The U.S. military has provided an easier way to travel that road. As a U.S. service member, you can file for citizenship during your enlistment. For some people, like Constructionman Emilio Marmol, of NAS Sigonella Public Works Department, the process can be as short as five months. “I originally joined the Navy because that’s what I wanted to do. I knew about the citizenship program but that was only an added benefit,” said Marmol, whose parents moved from Ecuador to Miami when he was young. “This was a huge weight off my shoulders. The pride for being a Sailor has always been there, now I can be proud to be a citizen, too.” Robert Daum, field office director for the U.S. Embassy in Rome, who has facilitated hundreds of naturalization ceremonies, was the first to congratulate America’s newest citizens during a celebration following the event. “The number one reason I chose this job was so I could do this work,” said Daum. “You’d be hard pressed to find a better job in the government than to provide this service to troops and their families.” For more information on the Navy citizenship program contact your base legal department.

TRAINING, continued from page 1 Hospital Corpsmen from the Flight Line Clinic on NAS II were also invited to attend the training sessions, and Lt. Skinner said she was hoping to bring the exercise to the Flight Line Clinic in the spring so corpsmen from the NAS II can stay there and still get the training needed. "There's always room for improvement, but I'm very happy that Room of Errors was successful," Skinner said. INTERVIEW, continued from page 5 your interview. It's not fair, but it's the truth. An interview could be going badly due to no fault of your own. This is when your best bet is to just keep trying and move on. Maintain your composure and continue with the interview as if nothing is wrong. You may be able to pull the interviewer out of his or her rut; at the very least, you will still appear confident and professional, which never hurts. Conclusion. You win some and you lose some, not every interview will be flawless. Learning to stop an interview from becoming a disaster can put you far ahead of the competition. So the next time you are in an interview, remember: if it feels like things can't get any worse, it means things can get better.
