Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) – Disposition Services Sigonella, formerly known as Defense Reutilization and Marketing Services, supports service members and the public by providing worldwide disposal management solutions. Disposition Services is the official U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) agency that disposes of military supply items that are no longer required due to changes in program responsibility, functional obsolescence or as a result of downsizing. “Usually, what we do is dispose of property that the military no longer has a use for,” said

Celia Torres, a disposition service representative for Europe. “It comes through here after a customer submits a disposal document. Once we get it here, there are different ways we deal with that property.” Torres also added that the property they received could be attained by other military services by request and if no one has requests, DLA has a contractor available to sell the property. “If the property is government owned, it must have a national stock number,” said Torres. “The national stock number holds any information on that item: how much it costs, the company, the manufacturer and all other information. The customers may then go online to the disposition services to submit items or conduct property searches. “It is important because right now all things cost a lot of money,” said Torres. “If you can get it from the system here, you can save money instead of buying it brand new.” For more information on the Defense Logistics Agency – Disposition Services, visit www.dispositionservices.dla.mil. Also present were U.S. Navy and Air Force personnel along with Swedish officers and countless Italian Polizia, Carabinieri, church officials and civilians who all gathered to show their respects to those killed in Agira during WWII. where, following a sermon and Catholic Mass held by the local priest with the help of the Canadian Chaplain Paul Gemmitti. Agira’s Mayor Gaetano Giunta shared a brief history of the events leading up to creation of the only all Canadian cemetery as the final resting place for the lost soldiers of the 1st Canadian Division. “Today, we’re commemorating a great day, because all of us together came here today on the 68th anniversary of the Allied troops landing in Sicily and the battle of Agira which was one of the harshest battles in WW II.” said, Giunta. “Today is also an important day because we are here united together to honor 480 Canadian Soldiers who died during the war of liberation.” Following the Catholic Mass a wreath laying ceremony took place at MEMORIAL, continued on page 16

Direct Line While the Skipper is out doing an “Official Function” I thought I would take this opportunity to jump in and say a few words. I am into my third month as XO and have been overwhelmed by two things at NAS Sigonella. First, the amount of paperwork that comes through this office and secondly, the positive attitude of the men and women that make up this community. Each person I have encountered has gone out of their way to make me and my family feel welcome. I look forward to building a community relationship with each and every one of you. Please stop me when you see me around the bases and let me know what you plan to do to make the Sigonella experience better for everyone. On another note, we’re over half way through the “Critical Days of Summer” -- the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day and the time of year when the armed

forces typically experience the most off-duty accidents and fatalities. Due to the high risk to all of us, it’s a good time to remind everyone to remain focused on reducing risks. I want to thank the folks at the NASSIG Safety Office for their hard work in getting the motorcycle safety course back up and running. It is mandatory for all riders to attend the Basic Rider’s Course (BRC) prior to registering or driving a motorcycle and violation is punishable under the UCMJ and should an accident occur, you are not covered under GOV insurance. The danger is out there and often the results are permanent. I ask that everyone take the time to ensure that you make the safety of you and your Sailors the TOP priority. The BRC and Experienced Rider’s Course (ERC) is normally held every month. Due to the backlog of request, extra classes have

been scheduled during the month of August. The BRC is a two-day course and will be held 2/3, 9/10, and 16/17 August. The ERC will be held 11 and 25 August. Please get in touch with AS1 Charlot at 624-5630 to sign up. While riding, ensure that you are wearing the appropriate DOT approved helmet, face shield or impact-resistant safety glasses, boots, long sleeve shirt or jacket, reflective vest and gloves. Remain diligent and cautious for those situations that most likely cause a wreck such as driving to fast, getting caught up in another driver’s blind spot and impaired driving. Regardless of your skill and comfort level, after driving in Sicily for only three months, I can attest to the fact that driving in Sicily requires an extra measure of concentration than anywhere else I’ve been; the roads are narrow; road quality can often be questionable; and the drivers seem more aggres-
sive and unpredictable. This combination of factors really puts the responsibility of staying aware and driving safely on our shoulders. We need to be aware of other vehicles, slow down, drive defensively, and resist the urge to “go native” and drive like the Sicilians. Taking these tips to heart should keep us on the right path. My goal for the next three years is not to sit around complaining but to actively make a difference. Join me by looking around where you work and live, and ask yourself, “How can I make Sigonella better?”, and then do something about it. Whether it is picking up trash around the parking lot or pulling weeds around your house, we can all make a difference by getting up and doing something. Only 25
days until school starts; enjoy the rest of the summer, but remember to slow down and NEVER make the choice to drink and drive. Sicily is a wonderful place to explore and enjoy, but you are responsible for the choices you make.

A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and two public performances are presented on Friday or Saturday’s. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales... a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. Also included in the residency are three enrichment workshops presented by

2011 Missoula Audition and Play Information AGES OF THOSE AUDITIONING All MCT Tour shows are designed for students entering 1st grade through 12th grade. This is the optimum age range for our productions. There are roles especially suited for all ages, skill levels and experience levels. At a minimum, we must have students entering 1st grade through 5th grade. No children entering Kindergarten may audition, regardless of age. AUDITION LOCATION Knights Hall, 1000-1200 on 22 Aug Several actors will be required to begin practice at 1300, shortly after the audition. You may want to be prepared with a lunch or lunch money. STUDENT PREPARATION No advance preparation is necessary, but a smile☺never hurts at an audition. Students should be ready to come and have a good time! Please remember that everyone must stay the entire two hours of the audition. AUDITION SCHEDULE Remember that the normal rehearsal schedule is two 2 hour sessions per day. The audition must be scheduled as the first session of the first day. Everyone is required to be present for the entire 2 hour audition. Due to time constraints, anyone missing the initial audition will not be considered in the casting of the show. Actors may not miss any of the practices, under any circumstances. If a day is missed the actor will be dismissed from the cast. ASSISTANT DIRECTORS During the audition, four to six Assistant Directors (ADs), ages ten and older, are selected to help teach and direct the show early in the week as well as take on technical responsibilities at performance time. Their logistical help and creative ideas are a vital part of the process and the experience of the ADs can be just as valuable as that of any cast member. They are normally older students who do take part in the audition session. It is a common misconception that junior high and high school students can only be involved in an AD capacity. Please note that there are roles in the show designed for older students as well. NUMBER OF STUDENTS CAST Approximately 40-50 students will be cast in the show. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast. REHEARSAL HOURS Mon 1300-1500 Tues-Thurs 1000-1200 1230-1430 Fri 1330 -close of production approximately 1900. Schedule subject to change on the first day of audition, as per Director’s requirements.
