The 1662 Prayer Book was printed two years after the restoration of the monarchy. The actual language of the 1662 revision was little changed from that of Cranmer. However, words and phrases which had become archaic were modernized. Other changes included having the readings for the epistle and gospel at Holy Communion come from the text of the 1611 Authorized King James Version of the Bible and the inclusion of the Psalter. The 1662 edition was the official Book of Common Prayer during the growth of the British Empire. As a result, it has had a great influence on the prayer books of Anglican churches worldwide and the liturgies of other denominations in English.
