Letter from Publisher & Editor

Every year during the Country Radio Seminar, Nashville Music Guide gets an opportunity to catch up with some of our favorite upcoming artists as well as music veterans. It is always a pleasure to hear how the artists’ have grown and excelled throughout the year and hear what they have coming up. CRS is also a time for us to discover new artists to follow. This year brought us more new and old faces than ever before and we have them all in one issue! There were so many great stories shared and songs heard and we thoroughly enjoyed this year and can’t wait for you to read up on all these artists inside this issue. Our NMG-SUV with mounted digital screen for mobile promotions has been garnering a lot of attention and been seen around town at some of the biggest functions and events in Music City. It will be making appearances throughout CMA Fest as well! Contact us today for more details about taking advantage of this promotional opportunity to be in front of thousands of music fans. We are currently getting our Summer Festivals issue ready which includes CMA Fest, Bonnaroo and many other festivals that we will be at during this summer. Being in The Guide is a great opportunity to expand your audience as we hit the pavement to share our stories with readers and new audiences from coast to coast.

The deadline for the next issue is May 20th and we have promotions that combine digital, mobile and print to enhance your promotional needs. There are some content slots still open for story pitches as well -- We are also always looking for free lancers to add to our team so be in contact with us today to see what we can do for you. Congratulations to the recent induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Ricky Skaggs, Dottie West and Johnny Gimble achieved country music’s greatest honor at an emotional event, hosted by Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, was held in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s rotunda, where plaques commemorating the Hall’s 133 previous inductees adorn the walls. The Class of 2018, which was selected by an anonymous panel of industry leaders assembled by the CMA, will officially be inducted into the Hall of Fame during a medallion ceremony in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s CMA Theater later this year. While we have so many great stories to share, we would like to take a moment and send our condolences to the Singletary family. Daryle was an amazing husband and father, great performer and even better friend. We had many great times over the years and I will never forget these memories. May his spirit live on in his music for years to come. Nashville’s music community put together a wonderful celebration of his life. Donna Lee of Buddy Lee Attractions shared a photo from the event that sent chills up my spine and tears to my face. Daryle is leaving behind his wife, Holly and four children - 3, 5, and 7 year old twins. For those that are interested in helping the family, a fund has been set up with Pinnacle under “DSL TR.” If you would like more information on donating, please reach out and we will share the information. Hoping and wishing everybody a prosperous 2018, we would like to thank the readers, artists, and all industry professional for their continued support of Nashville Music Guide. Also, a big thanks to all those that work on or with our team each issue to provide this content for print and online as well as giving us the opportunity to be a part of the Nashville media community. Best, Randy Rich

Radio Station Growing Up: KROC - Rochester, MN Radio DJ Handle: “CHERISH BOSSALOT” Dedication to love: “Sweet Sweet” - Cherish Lee Dedication to father: “Bare Necessities” - Louis Armstrong An all American singer, songwriter and storyteller, Cherish Lee is the daughter of Country music legend, Johnny Lee (Urban Cowboy’s Lookin’ For Love) and Hollywood vixen, Charlene Tilton (Lucy Ewing on the TV series, Dallas). Cherish spent the last few years on the road with her Papa Bear before moving full time to Nashville, TN, where she has been writing music, performing, getting married, starting a family and recording her album Tequila Cowgirl. Cherish’s new album has a real Cinderella story attached to it. “It certainly is a home grown album and I could not have done it without my brilliant producer, Nate Wedan. I was respectfully allowed to be the artist and most importantly, a mother. No one flinched at my son coming to the studio with me or having to run home early on days he stayed with his daddy. This album is all heart.” Full of warm traditional Country with splashes of modern day Country-Pop, and a little bit of rock n roll. Blend it all together and you have Cherish Lee’s Tequila Cowgirl! For more information, visit: www.CherishLeeMusic.com Radio Station Growing Up: KKBQ - Houston, TX Radio DJ Handle: “CURTIS CASH” Dedication to Love: “Something About the Way You Look Tonight” - Elton John Dedication to Pet: “Without You” - Celine Dion Curtis Braly’s song “Hate Me” off his latest album You Matter showcases his silvery smooth voice that is light and inviting. The lyrics are raw and full of emotions. A story that most anyone can relate to, “Hate Me” is about finding a way to get over an ex that you still see and have to interact with - it would be a lot easier to get over it if they would just hate him. A slow-temp that has complimenting melodies and lyrics -beautifully executed. Next month, Braly will partner with Carnival Cruise Line for Cruise with Curtis, a 5-day voyage on the high seas. The up-close-and-personal experience will give fans the opportunity to mingle with Braly as well as attend intimate performances from Curtis and other country artists including Sarah Beth Terry & Mitchell Torrence. Curtis Braly is a life-long musician. He shares his love for music with his entire family. He started out his music career working in radio and has since ventured on to making his own music for people to love. Curtis has shared the stage with Dolly Parton. His musical inspirations are some of Country music’s best with Reba, Kenny Rogers, and Garth Brooks on the list of many more. Curtis Braly is surely and artist to watch for. Radio DJ Handle: “VIBETOWN” Dedication to best friend: “Shawty’s A 10” - The-Dream Dedication to pet: Any song by P. Diddy in honor of her bull New to the scene, Jenna Paulette released her debut single “Coolest Girl in the World” in 2017. The video for the single was released following a campaign featuring 30-second clips of “empowered women empowering women,” talking about what makes them feel like the “coolest girl in the world” to shed light on Jenna’s effort and her partner non-profit, L.A.-based organization. Jenna has also created a new sound called New West. “It’s a balance of pop, loops and synthetic sounds balanced out with the super western traditional pedal steel,” said Jenna.”It feels like who I am as a person. I am a balance of the new and coming from a family that ranches and is very traditional in a lot of ways. Both things have to be represented or it doesn’t feel like me.” Her latest single “ILYSM” is the perfect anthem for spring; the catchy melody will linger in your head, making you want to hear it over and over. In addition to her love of music, she’s building quite the lifestyle brand - she’s sponsored by Lane Boots (Dallas, TX) and Six:02 - a women’s athletic retailer owned by Footlocker. Radio Station Growing Up: WEZL; Charleston, SC Radio DJ Handle: “PARTYFOUL” Dedication to love: “When You Say Nothing At All” - Alison Kraus Dedication to father: “Protection” - Lucinda Williams Nineteen-year-old Haley Mae Campbell is well on her way to becoming Music Row’s next big thing. The young singer-songwriter was named the 2016 Independent Tone Awards’ “Country Artist of the Year” as well as “Female Singer/Songwriter of the Year” by the i93.7 Locals Only show, receiving local and regional airplay for her previous EP, Phone Home. Campbell’s latest single, “Lose My Number,” peaked at #5 on the iTunes Country Pre-Orders Chart, and debuted at #43 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Chart. “Lose My Number” is the lead single from her upcoming sophomore EP, Lovers Lottery, set for an April 2018 release. Campbell began crisscrossing the U.S. at a young age, going on the “Hugs & Disses” tour with her band, The Hardware immediately after graduating from high school. Since then, Campbell has opened for country stars including Brothers Osborne, Dan + Shay, David Nail, Lauren Aliana, Love and Theft, Thompson Square and Tyler Farr as well as folk stars The Avett Brothers and performing at the 9th Annual First Flush Festival in her hometown of Charleston, SC with headliner Sheryl Crow. For more information, visit: www.HaleyMaeCampbell.com Radio Station Growing Up: WZYP & WDRM, Huntsville, AL Radio DJ Handle: “DFANN”or “DAN KINNING” Dedication to best friend: “Gold Digger” - Kanye West Dedication to ex: “Ex Thing” - David Fanning Fanning is delivering his music in a way that is a true reflection of his vision of entertaining a new generation of fans with Electronic Country Music. David Fanning’s latest single “Lovers” is an optimistic slice of love at the beginning of commitment – from the prospect of forever to “What have I done?” Lovers follows the release of Dreamers, which was the first in the series titled Dreamers, Lovers, Liars, Strangers. The collection pushes the boundaries of Electronic Country Music with Fanning redrawing the line between country themes and progressive beats with a brave new sound. Fanning, who produced the collection with creative collaborator Stennis, is no stranger to musical expression. He has produced three No. 1 hits for Thompson Square and Parmalee. His songwriter credits include cuts by Tyler Farr, Dylan Scott, Parmalee, Thompson Square, Bonnie Tyler, Scotty McCreery, Tracy Lawrence, and Lindsay Ell. He first turned heads with his country version of Justin Timberlake’s “Drink You Away,” which was endorsed by the superstar. Fanning also has a rich source of material to draw from for the series as a study of relationships – the euphoria of the ones that work, as well as the inevitable fallout from the ones that were never meant to last. For more information visit: www.DavidFanningMusic.com Radio Station Growing Up: KSCS; Dallas, TX Radio DJ Handle: “KRAZY KAYLEE” Dedication to love: “Love Someone” - Brett Eldredge Dedication to grandparents: “From the Ground Up” - Dan + Shay Kaylee Rutland’s music makes an unmistakable connection with listeners as evidenced by her tremendous social media following. Kaylee’s latest single, “Do You” is intended to encourage young women that going outside the “status-quo” is something to be celebrated. “‘Do You’ enforces the idea that young women should find comfort and pride in who they are,” said Kaylee. “It is also a reminder to take the images we see on social media with a grain of salt. No one is perfect, regardless of his or her follower count. This song is a call for each of us to essentially just ‘do you’ and not worry about fitting into the mold that society has created for young women.” Growing up in Texas, country music made a lasting impact on her style, learning from the greats of Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, and Sara Evans. She was eight, when she first fell in love with singing, performing her first solo for a Christmas musical at her church, and by her teens, she was fully committed to writing her own songs. Radio Station Growing Up: WMIL; Milwaukee, WI Radio DJ Handle: “NC BABY” Dedication to pet: “Dirt on My Boots” - Jon Pardi Dedication to ex: “Who Knows Who” - Nora Collins Fueled by an unyielding creative drive and a down home country spirit, Nora Collins has established herself as one of country music’s rising stars. As an accomplished singer/songwriter, Nora has a unique vocal quality that is both sensitive and upbeat. Much like her personality, she brings a positive energy that carries across generations of fans. Nora’s latest single is “Who Knows Who” and is a fun song that should be on your play list this season. “It’s just a really fun, sassy, sing-along-able song,” said Nora. “I think a lot of people will relate to it. It’s about that point in a relationship where maybe you just broke up or you haven’t figured out if you’re together yet and you want this person to know, “hey I can have fun without you and I can be anywhere doing anything right now and you have no clue.” This MV2 Entertainment artist/songwriter is quickly making a name for herself by penning and performing new-world topics with an old-soul voice that seems effortless, yet emotional and crystalline. For more information: www.NoraCollins.com Radio Station Growing Up: WZZK; Birmingham, AL Radio DJ Handle: “COCKROACH” Dedication to mother: “Mama Tried” - Merle Haggard Dedication to pet: “Feed Jake” - Pirates of the Mississippi From producers, studio musicians and music industry vets to country radio and its listeners, Glen Templeton has set out to impress and inspire. No bells, no whistles--just straight down the pipe--Glen is genuine in his performance; his studio recordings translate as undeniably and absolute as his live stage show. After sharing the stage with country music artists in Nashville, working clubs on lower Broadway, and carving his way to stardom, Templeton caught his big break when he was picked by The Twitty family to portray Conway in a two-year long tribute show. Since, he has hit the radio with songs I Could Be the One, Sing that Song Again, XM Radio #1 hit Ball Cap, #3 hit Let Her Go, and more. Now hitting the road with a heavy list of tour dates, Glen is promoting new music off his latest album, California and his most recent single, “Hip to Be Country,” which is now available on all digital music platforms. Templeton also shot an acoustic video for “Hip To Be Country” at The 615 Hideaway. The captivating video premiered on Country Rebel’s Facebook page and received over 50,000 views within one day of posting. Be on the lookout for Glen coming to a town near you, he is worth the listen. Radio Station Growing Up: WPUR; Atlantic City, NJ Radio DJ Handle: “SARAH ROSE” Dedication to pet: “Cuppycake Song” - Amy Castle Dedication to best friend: “Toxic” - Britney Spears Average Joe’s artists Sarah Ross has come a long way since her days on Season 12 of American Idol. She has honed her craft with amazing writing coupled with tremendous vocals on releases like “Relacs,” “Calm Before the Storm,” and more recently, “Doin’ Just Fine.” Doin’ Just Fine” is a high-tempo track with a pop-inspired sound. It’s catchy and is about a break up with someone who continues to call. Ross’s vocals flow effortlessly over the upbeat tempo. She has so much confidence in her voice and this song shows it. The song also is attached to a social media campaign focused on capturing moments in your life that have made you happy and hashtag them with #doinjustfine. She in turn chose certain fan pictures to include in her lyric video for the song. Ross also garnered early recognition as an emerging talent by inclusion in iHeart Radio’s “Digital Artist Integration Program,” and CMT’s Artist Discovery initiative. Her sophomore EP is set to be release in 2018 and features songs written by Ross, as well as, Grammy-Award winning writers Shane McAnally and Kacey Musgraves. For more information: www.SarahRossMusic.com Radio Station Growing Up: KPLX; Dallas, TX Radio DJ Handle: “DRIVE” Dedication to great-grandparents: “Watching Airplanes” - Gary Allan Dedication to love: “Yet” - Zach Stone Zach Stone, one of country music’s fresh faces, sparked interest from radio and music industry professionals during his second year of participation at the annual Country Radio Seminar (CRS) in Nashville. The Texas native was shaking hands and making introductions with radio personalities and PDs as part of an aggressive schedule. Stone participated in multiple interviews and performed at various industry showcases throughout the three-day event. He took the stage at the “Music City Hootenanny” held at The Valentine, sharing the bill with EmiSunshine. Keith Burns (Trick Pony) and Kaptain Jack (Renegade Radio) served as hosts. Zach also appeared at the New Music Weekly Showcase at Nashville Crossroads. His most recent single is “Four Letter Word.” It was co-written with Will Stone (no relation). “Four Letter Word” reflects on the heartbreak and anger one feels when love is under appreciated. Sometimes jilted lovers make use of choice, four letter words: as does Zach’s new song and the ultimate irony of love being one of those four letter words. Trust us, just listen to it! For more information: www.ZachStoneCountry.com Radio Station: Nat- WKXY Greenville, MS; Chris- WEGR; Memphis, TN; Han- Sirius XM Chill Radio DJ Handle: Chris- “T-DAWG” Han-”RED PANDA-HANNAH” Nat; “NAT-A-BEAR Dedication to ex: Nat- “So What” - P!nk; Dedication to grandparents: Han-”As Tears Go By” - Rolling Stones; Dedication to father: Chris- “White Wedding” - Billy Idol Southern Halo is a sibling trio that may look cute and innocent, but they are a powerhouse that has broken down doors and shattered glass ceilings with their music everywhere. Natalia, Hannah and Christina have faced challenges head on and raised the bar for the music to continue to inspire their young Country fans across the world. Their latest album set to Just Like in the Movies is as much a visual album as it is musical. The collaboration of the two media makes for an epic story that the girls are thrilled to share. Just Like in the Movies explores the excitement found and challenges faced when chasing one’s dream. The eagerness to experience new places is offset by the longing for the constant comforts of home, while the idea that anyone can indeed reach for the stars is reinforced. Natalia, Hannah and Christina continue to prove that dreams do come true - if you work hard and believe. Highlights abound, and the tracks range from Rockish (“My Girls & Me”) to beautifully poignant (“Not Today”) to confrontational (“Hey Boy”). It’s been a fast ride to the big stage for these Delta darlings and this is just the beginning of their story. For more information: www.SouthernHalo.net

Radio Station Growing Up: WAMZ, Louisville, KY Radio DJ Handle: “OLD TIME” Dedication to father: “Jail Break” - AC/DC Dedication to best friend: Something Bluegrass that’s real twangy The sight and feel of a recording studio is nothing new to Dustin Collins. As his father was a musician and artist, time spent in that setting stand among his earliest memories. For Dustin Collins, the opinion of those who support him means everything. “I don’t ever want to play something that the guys that have been supporting me for years and years, that they would be like, ‘Ugh.’ I always will try to be true to what I want to do to write music that means something.” Dustin’s album, It’s Been Awhile is slated for release this year and if it is anything reminiscent of his 2017 Billboard-chartting single “Cold Dead Hands” it wouldn’t surprise us to see him back on the charts this year. The Kentucky native is a true independent artist and focuses his music on what inspires him, his roots, and what he feels his fans want to hear and would appreciate.. Radio Station Growing Up: Kate- WGTZ, Dayton, OH; Josh-WMIL, Milwaukee, MI Radio DJ Handle: Kate- “K-HASTING” Josh- “Vaquero” Dedication to pet: Kate- “Despacito” - Justin Bieber Dedication to grandparents: Josh- “American Soldier” -Toby Keith Kate Hasting Band has been a part of the emerging artist seen in Nashville for a few years now and have continued to gain momentum. Comprised of Midwest born and raised Kate Hasting and Josh Beale, The Kate Hasting Band released single “Behind the Bleachers” in 2016. The video for the single, shot on Kate’s former high school football field, was quickly picked up by GAC, The Country Network, ZUUS Country and several other outlets nationwide - and the video’s director was nominated for an Emmy for the video itself. On their Facebook at the beginning of March they shared:“We are continually learning who we are as writers, musicians, and human beings. The only constants are our commitments to country music and to you as friends, fans, and family. We have big news on the horizon and we can’t wait to share it. Bring on 2018” While we don’t have the full scoop on what the big news is just yet, we do know that they have recently released their EP, Can’t Get Enough and it is worth the listen. Radio DJ Handle: “HEIDI-HOE” Dedication to mother: Anything by George Strait Dedication to love: “Drunk On A Plane” - Dierks Bentley Heidi Raye is a force to be reckoned with. After making the move from Dawson Creek, BC, Heidi has proved herself to be Nashville’s fiery, charming and quirky go-getter. A natural entertainer from an early age, Heidi has written and toured with some of country music’s elite. From her first deal with Erv Woolsey (George Strait’s manager) to her current deal with legendary Hall-of-Famer Harlan Howard’s label, Harlan Howard Records, Raye has continued to kick open doors. She has written over 200 songs with Music Row’s most acclaimed veterans in the past year alone, and has shared the stage with country legends, Kenny Chesney, Randy Travis, Jason Aldean and Terri Clark. Grabbing the reins as a recording artist, Heidi Raye teamed up with Grammy award-winning producer Chuck Ainlay to create her new EP, Worth A Shot. Iroquis Steeplchase Still Leads the Field in Music City of itself, so these new options allow them to put the focus on the party–not on the planning.

Nashville is having a moment these days, and for several reasons. Chief among them is the city’s sports scene. Yes, while Nashville has a wellknown reputation for its music, the city’s burgeoning love with sports is bringing a new identity to Music City. Thousands of fans packed downtown streets for viewing parties during the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs last year, and the city closed out 2017 strong by scoring Major League Soccer’s 24th franchise, besting twelve other cities in the process. Not that the city’s having an identity crisis, but one could argue for Music City, “It City,” or even “Sports City.” True, Nashville is getting major attention for its sports scene–but that’s really nothing new. Case in point: For the past 76 years, the Iroquois Steeplechase, sponsored by Bank of America, has been Music City’s most famed and revered sporting tradition. The race, always the second Saturday in May, brings together thousands of horse-racing fans, families, and friends for a day of community celebration and charitable giving. And this year, organizers are expecting more than 25,000 race-goers to pack Percy Warner Park to celebrate Nashville’s rite of spring with fashion and philanthropy. “Nashville is bursting with energy, and we are thrilled to be part of the sports community that’s helping drive even more attention to our incredible city,” said Dwight Hall, chairman of the Iroquois Steeplechase Race Committee. “And being one of the premier sporting events in a city as dynamic as ours means we are always adding new features to build on the race-day experience.” DYNAMIC CITY, DYNAMIC EVENT With a charitable mission at its core–to date, Iroquois Steeplechase has raised more than $10 million for Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt–this year’s event features several new options for race-goers to get involved and enliven their Steeplechase experience. For starters, families are an important part of the Steeplechase tradition. Not only is the race on Mother’s Day weekend, but organizers hope to bring even the youngest of spectators to the sport, helping cultivate a love of horses and steeplechasing. With all that in mind, children 12 and under may attend in the tailgating and general admission areas for free this year. This change makes it easier for families to plan to spend the day together at Steeplechase, enjoying the many activities it offers. And if making the race more accessible to families is part of this year’s enhancements, then that theme continues for those looking to simplify the tailgating experience. New this year, race goers can now opt for “allinclusive tailgating,” which includes a tent, table and chairs, as well as the option to add catering. For many racegoers, tailgating is a sport in and NashvilleMusicGuide.com 18

What’s more, those familiar with tailgating are also likely acquainted with the infield. While the horses race around the track, spectators in the infield watch with awe and delight–and revel in the excitement of, literally, being in the center of the action. That’s not a bad place to be, especially for those who take advantage of the Fox Den, an infield add-on that provides access to a tented area with catered food and beverages. And given that the food is provided by TomKats Hospitality, which is behind such Nashville favorites as Acme Feed & Seed, The Southern Steak & Oyster, Fin & Pearl, and Woolworth on 5th , the Fox Den truly is “in the middle of it all” in the infield; it comes as no surprise then that the Fox Den has been expanded to accommodate more racegoers and more activities in 2018, including live music for everyone’s enjoyment. For those looking for the ultimate Steeplechase experience, racegoers have the opportunity to purchase individual tickets in the Skybox Suites. These VIP suites offer sweeping views of the grounds and racetrack, and access to an array of amenities, ranging from gourmet food and beverages to a personal butler. This change, along with the others, is aimed at creating fresh experiences for those who’ve attended previously, and at giving first-time racegoers even more opportunities to get involved. “For 76 years, Iroquois Steeplechase has celebrated the grandeur of horse racing, while bringing attention to the many wonderful organizations, like Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, that are improving our communities,” Hall said. “As we honor the meaningful traditions of our event, we want to create new, exciting ways for Middle Tennesseans to get involved–and to make Iroquois Steeplechase a wonderful tradition for their family as well.” Learn more about the 77th Iroquois Steeplechase and purchase tickets online at https://www.IroquoisSteeplechase.org/. RACE DAY 8:00AM RV Tailgating and General Admission open 8:30AM Inside the track tailgating opens (Topside, Centerfield, Midfield, The Turn in the Meadows, and The Meadows.) 9:00AM Stirrup Club tailgating opens. 10:30AM - 12:00PM #HashtagHappyHour 10:30AM RV and ‘inside the track’ tailgating vehicles must be in place.

11:00AM Stirrup Club vehicles must be in place.Turf Club, Hunt Club, Iroquois Society, Paddock Club, and Fox Den tents open. 12:30PM Opening Ceremonies 1:00PM First race begins. There are 7 races with approximately 40 minutes between each race. *Approx. 5:30PM The races end with the featured race, the Calvin Houghland Iroquois.

Radio DJ: Bridgette- “BIG TATE” Uncle Si-“CRAZYMAN” Marsha -“CHIMPMUNK” Dedication to best friend: Uncle Si - “I’ll Love You Till The Day I Die” - Marty Robbins Dedication to ex: Bridgette- “Before He Cheats” - Carrie Underwood Dedication to father: Marsha-“Garrison” - Uncle Si & The Sicotics Uncle Si Robertson, the “Duck Dynasty” patriarch and namesake of the unconventional, unapologetic, unabashedly fun country trio, Uncle Si & The Sicotics, have release their self-titled, debut EP on Cold River Records. Uncle Si & The Sicotics formed in late 2016 and had an immediate chemistry that fans liken to Jerry Reed and Ray Stevens mixed with a little Aldean. The collection of songs on Uncle Si & The Sicotics is the brainchild of Uncle Si, his daughter-in-law Marsha Robertson, and creative force Bridgette Tatum. Tatum produced and co-wrote the project with Robertson and Uncle Si and said the resulting songs are based in faith, raised in family, and radiate fun. There is certainly something for everyone. Like the Louisiana native, Uncle Si & The Sicotics is a tasty gumbo of country music, hip hop beats, rock ‘n’ roll, and Southern gospel capturing Uncle Si’s wit, wisdom, and wry observations on popular culture. They have assembled a live show with the same energetic, mind-blowing experience that is captured on the EP. It’s a journey through music with straightjackets, rubber chickens, rhinestones, and electric entertainment. Up Close and Personal with Rising Country Artist Tyson Hanes Discussing His Career and New Album “State of Emergency” a championship and figured someday I could go professional. But with starting so late in life and prior injuries affecting me, I quickly realized that also was a dream out of my reach. So being a huge music lover my entire life, I took guitar classes in school. My teacher Greg Ryckman heard me sing and thought I had potential. It kind of just took off from there. I started doing acoustic gigs around town and realized people were enjoying my performances. I started a band and based my shows off what I knew from watching Garth Brooks. My favorite artist of all time! I realized quickly that entertain was key. Over lyrics and vocals, it was essential to entertain people and make them feel like they are at a concert every singe show. Seeing that I could do that, and take people out of their everyday lives and problems, and just keep them in the moment for 4 straight hours, made me feel like I can make a difference. I love that feeling and it made me realize I finally found a dream I know I can succeed in. NMG – What’s the first song you ever performed in public, how old where you, and where did you perform? Tyson has written over 150 songs, he auditioned for Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge here in Nashville, TN, and shortly after was offered a contract, which also included a work visa into the country. Tyson works full time as a front man for the world famous “Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge” and you can see him playing to a packed house almost every time he performs. Don’t miss a show. Get on down there to “Tootsie’s” and tell him I sent you. Here’s our “Candid Conversation” with the one and only Tyson Hanes. NMG – What’s the name of your current single and the title of the album it’s on? My album is in the making right now. It will hopefully be ready for release this spring or summer. The title of the album will be “State of emergency”. NMG – What quote, phrase or song best describes you at this time in your career and why? Carpe Diem. Those two words are what I live by. I live everyday to it’s fullest on and off the stage. When I’m on stage, that’s the place that matters to me. My audience and fans are my main focus. And when I’m off the stage, I’m making every second count. I’m riding motorcycles or anything that has an engines and doing anything that gets my adrenaline pumping. I make sure to tell my family how much they mean to me, and give thanks to the lord for blessing me with everything I have. NMG – What was the one thing that made your decision to chose a career in the entertainment industry your life’s decision? Since I was a kid, I have always had really big dreams. They’ve changed over the years of course, but I’ve always wanted more than a 9-5. As a child, I wanted to be a Nascar driver. I watched it religiously every Sunday with my Mom and Aunt. I quickly realized we didn’t have the money or means for that dream to ever become a reality. At 12, I finally got my first dirt bike (which I have wanted as far as my memory goes back). I got really good really fast. I won races and even NashvilleMusicGuide.com 22

I was a late bloomer to realizing I could sing. So my first time performing in front of a public crowd was at my high school graduation. I was 17 years old. I sang “The River” by Garth Brooks while all the graduates walked to the stage in the school auditorium. NMG - What was the first album you ever bought and why? Oh boy, this is an embarrassing question… My first album I got as my own was Hanson’s album “Middle of Nowhere” ha ha! BUT there were two significant albums that played a part in why I grew up loving music so much. My aunt always had Garth Brooks Greatest Hits and Creedence Clearwater Revival Greatest Hits cassette tapes in the car. We would listen to those everywhere we went! Those albums helped shape everything I came to love about music.

NMG – What has been the craziest but most memorable moment while on tour or at a show? There have been so many!!! I would have to say the first thing that comes to mind was when a girl dressed as a unicorn decided to try to crowd surf after I invited her to dance on stage for a song. She didn’t give the audience any notice that she was going to jump, but then BAM! She just jumps! Nobody catches her and she flips head over heels about 7 feet to the floor. Somebody in the crowd ended up getting it on video and sent it to me. I’m never deleting that one! NMG – A lot of entertainers in today’s industry try to pay it forward to the community when possible. Is there a charity you hold close to your heart and if so why? I am a huge animal lover! I love to help out in any way I can to animal charities and shelters. I also think St. Jude is an amazing charity and have been hoping to get to do an event with them for quite some time. I just think it’s amazing what they do for the children, and also how they accommodate the families involved.

Current Album: State Of Emergency Personal quote: “I am from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. I have been playing music for almost 12 years. I am a singer/songwriter and will be a writer in almost all, if not all songs on my upcoming album. I am currently writing with Don Goodman, Taylor Phillips, Brad Wolf, Richie Martin, Isaac Harris, Ian McConnell along with many others. I will be releasing an album later on this year and have plans on writing, touring, and performing my butt off! I always make it a point to put my all into every single show I play. Whether there are 5 people or 5000 thousand people at my show, I will put every ounce of energy into it. I have been told my shows are extremely high energy and crowd involved, and I never plan on changing that.” ~Tyson Hanes~ For more information: www.facebook.com/TysonHanesMusic

NMG – What, if any, advise would you give to aspiring new artist’s who come to Nashville to begin a singing career?

Story by Sherryl Craig

I would let them know that it’s amazing. It’s full of opportunities and amazing talent. But while it can be a dream come true, it can also be a very scary place. It will make you or break you. It’s intimidating being around so much talent. You go from being a big fish in a little pond to a small fish in an ocean! If you come to Nashville to pursue music, the best advise I could give, is to know and accept the fact that nothing comes easy or happens overnight. It’s hard work and a constant fight that you hope someday will pay off. But also knowing that it’s a hard road and there are no guarantees for anything. NMG – The life of a musician is tough and sometimes it can take a toll on family. How important is family to you and what do you do to keep that bond while being away from home touring? To me family is extremely important. I couldn’t do what I do without my family. I moved away from home at 19 to chase this crazy dream. Unfortunately I had to leave my entire family behind, including my daughter, which is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. I have been lucky enough and blessed enough success with music to have the means to travel back to my hometown and see my family very frequently. I also text, call, and FaceTime my family all the time. I now have a second family on my wife’s side and am proud to say I have two amazing families that I keep close to my heart and make sure I never lose contact with. Current touring or show dates: Right now I am playing downtown Nashville,at The World Famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge, Honky Tonk Central, and Rippy’s Bar and Grill every Thursday though Sunday night.

John Berry has a new outlook, a new address and a new beginning. The singer-songwriter rose to stardom on the country charts of the 1990s with such mega hits as Your Love Amazes Me, Standing on the Edge of Goodbye and She’s Taken a Shine. During his height, John landed 20 singles on Country charts, earned multiple Gold and Platinum records garnering ACM, ICM, and CMA nominations with a Grammy win in 1996 for his participation in Amazing Grace: A Country Salute to Gospel Vol 1. With traditional Country recently seeing a resurgence, John launched a crowd funded Kickstarter project that proved very successful. Overwhelmed by the fan response, John assembled an all-star studio team and cut both a new album entitled What I Love the Most. Blessed with the ability to make the music he wanted to make -and not what a label dictated allowed John the time to write and create what we think is some of his best music yet. And we aren’t the only ones ... John’s single “Beautifully Broken” was chosen to be the title track for the new film, Beautifully Broken. The song, which features heartfelt lyrics, is perfectly paired with the compelling film that tells the riveting true story of three families, worlds apart, whose paths seem unlikely to cross. Patrick Darrah

Long, lean and a little rough around the edges, Patrick Darrah’s country music debut is alternatively sentimental and telling. Hailing from a small town in Bloomingdale, NY, Darrah earned his living as a skilled auto body artist. He was raised on the country music legends (such as Charlie Daniels, Marshall Tucker, George Straight and Gary Allen) that echoed between the cement walls of the family body shop. In early 2017, Darrah put down the tools and picked up his guitar to pursue his dream in Nashville.

Combining the musical styles that he gravitates toward, Patrick’s vocal delivery, stage performance and original compositions are an infusion of Eric Church, Jamey Johnson, Chris Stapleton and Granger Smith. He’s become a downtown Broadway “must-see” entertainer for country music fans and Music City visitors—tearing up the stages at some of Nashville’s most notable honky tonks and nightclubs (Honky Tonk Central/Rippy’s Bar & Grill/The Stage/Tin Roof/Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge). The long, lean and rugged performer sheds light on the value of rich storytelling song writing and contagious melodies. Patrick, who’s admittedly, “a little rough around the edges,” reveals honest recollections, longing desires, painful regret, and hope to love again in his new album— Northern Truth. His debut single “I Never Got Over You” is on radio now. For more information: www.patrickdarrah.com

Radio Station Growing Up: WAKG, Danville, VA Radio DJ Handle: “RAMBLIN RAY-RAY” Dedication to pet: “Gypsy” - Ray Scott Dedication to love: “Thank You Baby” - Ray Scott The digital music revolution has turned out to be a “Rayincarnation” for acclaimed country storyteller Ray Scott. While a label-free utopia where artistic merit trumps popular whims remains as unlikely as it always was, the internet age has allowed a certain kind of creator to connect with an audience and chart a self-determined course… when helps explain why Ray Scott has chosen to title his fifth studio album, Guitar For Sale. Ray’s music and where it fits in the music business has really taken shape over the last few years. While this is not his first rodeo, the latest album is a perfect introduction for new potential fans that may not be familiar with him. On the other end of the spectrum, this album is a defining album for those who are already familiar with his music. “I understand that sometimes the business has a place for what I do and sometimes it doesn’t,” Ray says. “But what I do has kept me alive out there in the world because it is different enough that people get passionate about it. They stick with it. I don’t sound like anybody else, and I don’t want to.” For more information visit; www.RayScott.com Radio Station Growing Up: KKMJ, Austin, TX Radio DJ Handle: “C-DUB” Dedication to pet: “Fishin’ in the Dark” - Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Dedication to love: “Somewhere in There” - Craig Wayne Boyd Millions of Americans watched the Texas native’s journey on “The Voice,” but for Boyd, that was only one chapter in a long journey that resulted in the release of Top Shelf, which is a celebration of heartbreak, the sweet pain of love, and the comfort of faith’s embrace. For us at Nashville Music Guide, we have been watching Craig’s career since the days of long hair and fringe playing the honky-tonks of Broadway. The road that he has travelled was rough and rocky but has ultimately paid off with the release of this tumultuous album. “This album has been a labor of love,” said Boyd. “We started the album shortly after coming off of “The Voice” but did not find a home for it until earlier this year. A lot of life has been lived at that point, so I wanted to go back in the studio and record a few more so that the album reflected where I am in life right now. I feel that this album is now reflective of my life and the happiness that I have found in it!” Top Shelf is a refreshing and distinct take on Craig’s sound that creates a strong, viable connection with its listeners. Craig has also made some guest appearances involving his passion for cooking as well. We are so proud of how far Craig has come and can’t wait to see what’s next. For more information, visit: www.CraigWayneBoyd.com Radio Station Growing Up: WORM, Savannah, TN Radio DJ Handle: “D-RAIL” Dedication to love: “Brick House” -Rick James Dedication to mother: “Second Wind” - Darryl Worley Darryl Worley’s “Lonely Alone” is the epitome of the Muscle Shoals sound. His voice is classic and clean. The song is written for those with a broken heart. The song suggests that being lonely isn’t just when you are alone. That “if it ain’t love, ain’t no reason to stay.” The melody is calm. “Lonely Alone” is a slow tempo song that keeps you engaged with the soothing vocals. This song explains the feeling of how relationships can sometimes leave you feeling alone. Darryl discusses that is meant to help people going through this issue in their own relationships get out of the rut. Worley has over 20 hit singles, three of which are NO.1 hits. He is not only a vibrant singer, but a brilliant songwriter as well. He comes from a music background with a grandfather that played the banjo and his mother sang in church. Music is in his blood. He has been active in country music for over a decade. He has multiple albums and has even taken time to perform many times for troops overseas. And he is bringing back Traditional Country not only through his suave style but more importantly through his music. Travis Rice’s single “Sinking Ship” tugs at the heart. It is filled with his smooth vocals and raw lyrics. The melody has a sad feel to it. The song is heart wrenching. Travis explains within the song how unhealthy relationships leave you drowning. This is the outcome of a relationship that had negative impacts on the couple. Rice wrote this song based on life experiences. He realizes that many people can relate to this situation. “Sinking Ship” almost has a haunting sound to it. I think people can really connect to not only the lyrics, but the feeling that follows throughout the song. Travis has shared the stage with some of country music’s best such as Craig Morgan, Randy Travis, and Travis Tritt. Travis Rice is an artist with the whole package from song writing to performing, he has it all. I can’t wait to hear more. For more information, visit: www.TravisRiceMusic.com
