From the Director People across Davidson County are reading and talking about the same book during this year’s Nashville Reads campaign. I hope you are, too. This year, we’re reading March: Book One, the first volume of a graphic novel series co-authored by Congressman John Lewis and Andrew Aydin. The trilogy, illustrated by Nate Powell, tells the story of America’s historic Civil Rights Movement. Rep. Lewis played a tectonic role in this era, as did the city of Nashville.

I also urge you to visit our Civil Rights Room and explore its collection of oral histories, photographs, and documents. These items have been collected and preserved from those who experienced the Jim Crow era firsthand. Since the Library’s Civil Rights Room opened in December 2003, Nashville Public Library has drawn on these items to inform conversations about contemporary civil rights. People from across Nashville and the world travel to this space. They come to learn, to engage, to reflect.

The Library Board meets the 3rd Tuesday of each month at noon. Contact (615) 862-5760 for location and information about Library Board meetings. Requests for ADA accommodation should be directed to Sandy Cohen at 862-5750 or 862-5752.
