21.07.2011 Anastasia Globa: Search for a best scientific problem in the field of Architecture Interest - Key words: Parametric architecture, digital modelling and conventional design methods, design process, creating and creative methods, digital modelling tools, parametric tools, static and dynamic architecture, logic of form making process, abstract thinking, digital experimentation, architectural translations, parameters as input data, architectural languages and codes, understanding through doing, floating architecture... Floating architecture – as a case study. A set of a wide range of parameters. Questions: What are the creative opportunities of digital? What is parametric architecture? (Difference between Digital and Parametric). Can I discover new knowledge in the field of: parametric architecture, digital modelling, and logic of design process? Logic, process, outcome…Where in this chain do we put TOOL (digital or conventional), and in what way does the tool influence each phase of the Architectural Design? Gain in knowledge: Master new digital software, parametric tools, logic of physical/digital modelling Statements: Architecture is no longer a static creature, but a fluid sequence of parametrically caused forms and patterns. Investigating parametric architecture? Architecture is always parametric! Design task - a set of parameters. It is essential to realize that architecture is all about translating something into something. Parameters are often: place / function / capacity /and so on…They frame our work! But still the outcome will vary from architect to architect, and that is due to interpretations and decisions, that we take during the creative process of designing. The outcome will also be influenced by the tools, which we are using, by the kind of software and the skill level. Role of digital experiment: parametric architecture gives to us is an ability to get various results very fast. And test them: not only in our minds – but in computer. Does it make design less subjective and more efficient? Architects become more programmers and less artists. At the same time the interpretation and ways of architectural translation – are still decided more intuitively, then logically. As Architects–programmers we establish a set of rules and script the logic of the form making, we decide what are the inputs (parameters) – how do they interconnect and function together and how in the end do they form our Parametric Architecture. How is this different from the conventional way of the design process? Basic understanding or applied work? What topic allows self-expression?
21.07.2011 Notes About: finding literature/ storing references / reading -
-
Talk to Lin (find the book written by a Canadians academic) the book is about Generative components and series of patterns (probably “Architectural Geometry” by Prof. Dr. Helmut) Pottmann) Woodward Robert Aish Bentley book Greg Lynn Michael J. Ostwald “Complex and non linear pattern in architectural space, form and program, developing computational tools to support social and cultural design” Daniel Davis ...”The flexibility of logic programming”
Start using “Endnote” and “Zotero” Always store references and write notes! Even if I found it not interesting or useful. Notes: - What is it about? What have I got from there? Add to Endnote. Check: -
vic. Online library /online resources / Scopus Zotero (online resource to store references) www.librarything.com www.cumincad.scix.net
Make a system, mention everything I do, find, read... After reading a book (journal): -
Write out Keywords Make Library of Keywords What have I got from there? (notes) (Keep notes/Keep writing)
Expand research: -
Write down library congress code (Vic. uses) Look in the Amazon who has bought the book and what other books do they have Check Authors, who pop up more often
Record our meeting/ make notes/Email them (create a blog) Email Drafts 1 day before the meeting (minimum). READ!
DONT READ EVERYTING!
EXPAND THE FIELD OF KNOWLEDGE! DIPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE SOFTWARE AND TECHNOLOGY!
