recently came across an article by “The Washington Post” about a pair of jeans being sold at a retail store that sell for $425. “The Washington Post” says the “Barracuda Straight Leg Jeans” come with some sort of fake mud substance caked all over them. (It’s not clear what that substance is.) The knees, pockets and crotch of the jeans appear to bear most of the faux brown muck. This particular clothing item is bringing attention to people like Mike Rowe the former host of the T.V. series “Dirty Jobs” who has shown his frustration. Rowe wrote on a social media page, “‘Rugged Americana’ is now synonymous with a ‘caked-
on, muddy coating.’ Not real mud. Fake mud. Something to foster the illusion of work. The illusion of effort. Or perhaps, for those who actually buy them, the illusion of sanity.” As I read such CHAPLAIN'S things CORNER as this I am reminded about what God says in scripture in 1 Samuel 16:7 “But the Lord said to Samuel, NAS Key West “Do not look on Command Chaplain his appearance Lt. or on the height Scott Mason of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the
Lord looks on the heart.” I want to encourage you that we don’t have to try to look like someone else or act like someone else to feel accepted. To me making yourself look like a “Dirty Jobs” poster child with fake mud does not seem to be looking at your heart, but looks more like a fashion faux pas. Please come and join us on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. at Truman Annex Chapel for worship service with our Praise Band and Children’s Church. Please visit our Facebook page (Truman Chapel) for upcoming events. If you are in need of Chaplain care, please call your Chaplains at 305 293-2318, Naval Air Station Key West, or 305 2928788, Coast Guard Sector Key West.
