Assistant Natural Resources Manager Shelby Graham said volunteer training is April 12 at the Eco Discovery Center. Nesting season runs from April 15 - Oct. 31. aval Supply Systems Command Global Logistics Support Household Goods has added 15 more webinars to its series of live, interactive webinars that assist Sailors and their families in facilitating military moves. The total number of webi-

nars offered since Jan. 10 is 65, up from the original 50 scheduled early this year. “Due to popular demand, we made the strategic decision to increase the number of live webinars we are offering in order to better accommodate our Sailors and their families’ schedules,” said Deborah McGlennon, NAVSUP GLS HHG program manager. In addition to the HHG

webinar schedule, NAVSUP GLS is offering customized webinars for individual commands which have a mass of 20 or more Sailors moving within the same three - six month window through the rest of the calendar year. “We are very customer service-oriented; if there is a need and a demand, we’ll develop customized webinars for individual com-

mands who are interested in receiving them,” said McGlennon. Commands interested in receiving customized webinars should contact Deloma Miley via email at deloma. miley1@navy.mil. The webinars, part of an ongoing effort to help educate Sailors and their families of the HHG process in order to make moves go smoothly, cover moves

which are part of a permanent change of station, a retirement, or separation orders. The webinars, available via personal phone, tablet, and computer - including government computers - are scheduled from now through June, during peak HHG season. “This is a terrific initiasee HHG page 2

Cross and as a victim advocate for a women’s center in Fort Worth and for the Mothers Against Drunk Driving in Dallas. “My passion has always been to help those who believe there is no help out there for them,” she said. “I also believe in preventative practices as well as proactive emergency assistance for those who have already been victimized.” For more information, call Boggess at 305-293-4411 or email her at lawonza.boggess.ctr@ navy.mil.

hatchlings would wander toward night lighting instead of the moon shining on the ocean. The amber lighting is programmed to turn on during nesting season, replacing the normal white light. The amber light radiates in a spectrum the turtles won’t see but people can. The lighting has proved successful in the last three years, Graham noted. Last year volunteers successfully rescued 17 newly-hatched loggerhead sea turtles that were found buried deep beneath the surface, Graham said. Surrounding vegetation and root

systems had permeated the nest and the turtles were unable to emerge and make their way into the ocean. The surviving hatchlings were transported to the Lower Keys Turtle Hospital where they were successfully rehabilitated and released into the ocean. “The goal for our call for volunteers is not to see an increase in volunteer numbers,” said Graham. “The goal is outreach and to increase public awareness about endangered species.” Contact Graham at 305-7972881 or email at shelby.graham@navy.mil.

New guide helps commissary patrons focus on nutrition From DeCA public affairs

T

he phrase “Dietitian approved! We did the work for you!” is catching on at commissaries worldwide as customers are using the Defense Commissary Agency’s new nutrition guide program to help them shop. “Here we are in March National Nutrition Month - and our customers are readily adapting to NGP, which was just introduced in January,” said Deborah Harris, DeCA dietitian. “That speaks to how easy it is to use, and how important nutrition is to our customers, especially since a big part of military service is readiness and resilience.”

One reason for NGP’s success is because commissary store directors, dietitians and other health professionals on military installations have helped raise local awareness of the program, Harris said. Dietitians and health professionals are quick to point out that no one diet is right for everyone. It’s important to follow a healthful eating plan that fits each person’s unique lifestyle. So what does NGP do? “It helps you meet your health and wellness needs and guides you in building a nutritious shopping cart,” Harris said.
