Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 WEPF Directory Program The Whole Earth Pets Directory was originally published in 2013-2014 by the owner of Whole Earth Pets, Natalia Corres and compiled, edited and coordinated by Linda Toelle. The purpose of this directory was to provide a focused resource of pet-related services, businesses and pet-centric information for pet parents in the Bakersfield CA. area. Specifically targeted demographics included:
Pet parents who have recently relocated to Bakersfield. Pet parents who have recently adopted from a local shelter or rescue. Pet parents who may not currently have a regular veterinarian or groomer. Pet parents who are educating themselves on responsible pet ownership.
For 2015 – the directory was transitioned to the Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. as part of the mission to educate and provide resources. Additionally for the 2015 edition, it was decided to attempt to print and bind the paper copies for distribution. A binding machine which uses comb spines was purchased along with card stock for the covers and volunteers printed the directory on various home printers. Over 500 paper copies were printed and distributed. The issue is also available online through Issuu.com (http://bit.ly/20152016WEPFD) and to date has had over 1,600 hits to the directory.
6
Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 Big Red’s Buddies Big Red’s Buddies (BRB) program came into being immediately after our incorporation in 2014 and has been building steadily since then. In 2015 – 40 dogs and 2 feral cat colonies were assisted in various ways through this program. Unlike rescues, our involvement with pets and their parents is normally long term – as the goal of this program is to help elderly; medically frail; chronically ill; and/or financially challenged pet parents with the services and supplies needed in order for them to remain together. Too often pet parents who meet this criteria are faced with the decision to keep or give up their pets because they are no longer able to care for their pets without help. Existing adult and aging services do not address these particular needs very often. Big Red’s Buddies assists in a variety of ways:
Dog walking, pet cleanup Pet fostering while owner is in hospital or rehabilitation (with visitation when permitted) Assistance with pet food, pet supplies, pet medication Transportation to and from Veterinary appointments, and Grooming (sometimes this includes capture – as in the case of 4 dogs that were being brought up to date for licensing so the County appointed guardian could release them to a relative) Financial assistance with veterinary and grooming Financial and physical assistance with spay/neuter and vaccinations Assistance with adoption/rehoming when the pet parent is no longer able to be with their pet (either through institutionalization, a result of hoarding, declaration of legal guardian/power of attorney or death)
BRB has received referrals from the local SPCA, the Kern County Adult and Aging office, Bakersfield Pet Food Pantry and concerned family and neighbors. Of the 40 dogs we provided services for in 2015, 22 of them are still in the program and will probably continue through the coming year. Three of them crossed the rainbow bridge – two from old age, and one from Parvo. Six of them were placed in new forever homes. Nine dogs were provided services and their parents no longer needed our services, but circumstances could easily change – in which case we would welcome them back.

Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 $578.34 $245.00 $1,352.12 BRB - Pet Food BRB - Veterinary BRB - Grooming BRB - Supplies & Misc. $5,767.04
BRB relies on donations and the help of the Bakersfield Pet Food Pantry in providing pet food to dogs and cats in our care. We have relationships established with Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital and Auburn Pet Hospital for pet medical needs. We use Critters without Litters (www.critterswithoutlitters.org ), exclusively for spay/neuter. Platinum Paws provides all of the grooming services for our clients when they do not already have a regular groomer. BRB either transports the animals to Platinum Paws or sets up an appointment for their mobile grooming vehicle. BRB supplies and miscellaneous include leashes, collars, dog beds, crates, kennels, treats, dog coats, and in one case, the building of a wheelchair ramp so the pet parent could accompany the dog on walks. BRB also has its own web site at www.BigRedsBuddies.org and shares postings on the WEPF Facebook page at www.facebook.com/WEPFoundationInc/ .
8
Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 Rody’s Pals Rody’s Pals (RP) program was initially established in October of 2014. Because we are well aware that some pet parents do not go to established shelters because pets are not welcomed, we decided to focus this program on providing stop-gap assistance to the homeless and soon-to-be homeless. Providing pet food and related pet supplies to the Homeless pet parents of our community, has expanded to include providing food, clothing, and toiletries when possible, as well emergency fostering and medical assistance for the pets when we can afford it. Donations of pet food are rebagged into Gallon zip lock bags, for greater ease in carrying for the limited storage and strength of the pet parents. Donations of clothing, pre-packaged foods and bottled water, and hotel/travel sized toiletries are also received, packaged and sorted. When monetary donations are specifically slated for Rody’s Pals, that money is used for pet food; vaccinations; spay/neuter; and collars, leashes, flea collars and flea shampoo. Our method of distribution is to go to the streets, parks, and river beds where the homeless take shelter and hand it out as needed. In some cases, we have been contacted by sister organizations or the volunteers of other organizations to assist individuals and their pets. Our volunteers also keep bagged dog food, blankets, leashes, collars and pre-packaged foods in their cars to hand out when they see someone who is homeless with a pet. RP shares the www.wepfoundation.org site and posts on the WEPF Facebook page www.facebook.com/WEPFoundationInc/ .

Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 Whole Earth Pets and People Residential Sanctuaries The concept of Whole Earth Pets and People Residential Sanctuaries (WEPPRS) program was part of the original vision of the organization when it was incorporated as a California nonprofit. The concept is to procure correctly zoned property for tiny homes, in order to assist people with pets who wish to build their own tiny home using recycled and sustainable materials, and becoming either less-grid or off-grid. The end result would be a home that would forever belong to the individual or family & their pets, whether it remained on our property (for a nominal rent) or not. This program would be open to any individual who wanted to own their own home and either currently owns pets or would be willing to foster pets while on WEPPRS property. We envision that this might appeal to:
Recently emancipated youths with or without pets Homeless with pets Fixed income with pets Seniors with pets Individuals or families trying to reduce or eliminate debt who are pet friendly or have pets
In addition, it is important to be environmentally responsible – so recycled, repurposed, reused materials and sustainable materials are a key part of this concept. Along with the use of solar, wind, and alternative energies and the reclamation of gray water for use on the common ground areas. 2015 was a year of research and fact gathering for WEPPRS. WEPPRS shares the www.wepfoundation.org site and posts on the WEPF Facebook page at www.facebook.com/WEPFoundationInc/ .
11
Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 Kinship Place Kinship Place (KP) program, directed by Reverend Byrd Tetzlaff was accepted as a program in June of 2015 because it fit within the construct and vision of the WEPPRS . The goal of this program is to establish a private community for pet parents and their pets whose focus is on caring for the pets and for participation in the community to assist each other in that care with a more permanent intent. Kinship Place is meant to be an interactive and interdependent community of pet parents. With a vision that includes provisions for common areas to house a central community building, community garden(s), and cat enclosures to house the feral cat colonies that may be relocated to this site. Kinship Place was in pre-planning from June to December of 2015 – finetuning the attributes of the vision; and determining the minimum requirements before initiating the search for viable property and the fundraising which will be a natural next step. Kinship Place has its own web page at www.KinshipPlace.org and maintains a Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/KinshipPlace .
12
Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 WEPF General Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. (WEPF) has registered with Guidestar.com in an effort to maintain transparency for corporate and individuals seeking out animal welfare charities such as ours. We have kept that listing updated throughout 2015 and will continue to do so. WEPF has a website at www.wepfoundation.org and maintains a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/WEPFoundationInc/. WEPF maintains an account with VolunteerMatch.com where it posts volunteer opportunities. In 2015, we appointed Kym Favors as our Volunteer Coordinator, and she has taken on the role of reviewing volunteers, orienting them, and doing home checks for potential Foster families. We have also recruited volunteers from our pool of friends and family. This resulted in a total of 10,637.75 hours of volunteer time for 2015 – which included all programs and foster families. This year we were able to become an organization available for sponsorship through the Smile.Amazon.com program as well as registering with iGive.com; GoodShop.com; GoodSearch.com and through our use of the ResQWalk smartphone/iphone application. We have also run donation requests through YouCaring.org, a crowdsourcing application for use in social media. Donations made to Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. without a designated program or use stipulated is put in the general fund and made available to the different programs on request when their specific funding is insufficient for their current requirement. Donations of goods are either put to use or sold in yard, garage, and swap meet sales. These items are kept in storage either with a volunteer or at the space donated to us by Payless Mini Storage (http://payless-ministorage.com/). The costs of running these sales come from the administrative (general) fund. Additional expenditures from the general fund this year included $105.79 to assist other organizations with pet food. For larger events, such as the “Taillights Car Show” (which we hope will be an annual fundraiser) – donations in 2015 included $1,261.99 worth of raffle prizes from local businesses; $201 event insurance sponsored by the Jim Miller Jr. Insurance agency, and the use of the huge parking lot behind Temblor Brewing Company. Non-reusable expenditures for the car show totaled $440.90 (for example: Port-apotty rentals). Whereas $289.41 expenditures were for items that will be reused in subsequent car shows.
13
Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. 2015 No Kill Kern In January of 2015, Jackie Cameron and Neel Sannappa approached WEPF to set up a spay/neuter program. It was agreed that this was in keeping with the overall mission of WEPF, and so we agreed to allow NKK to raise funds for this purpose, using our tax-exemption. We waived any fees which might normally be charged for the use of another organization’s tax exemption because we felt that the work being done was exemplary. By the end of January, it was clear that No Kill Kern was heading towards working in rescue (they were contacted with abandoned puppies and had rescued a dog from a field) and so a provision was made to our charter to include rescue. It was also clear that NKK needed to have more control over its funds, due to the nature of their rescue and the medical needs of the dogs – and so a DBA was filed enabling them to receive funding in the name of No Kill Kern and to set up a separate financial service. This initiated a renegotiation of the relationship of NKK and WEPF – such that, it was no longer a program of Whole Earth Pets Foundation, Inc. but instead – a fledgling organization planning on becoming an incorporated non-profit in its own right by Dec. 31, 2016 which we are sponsoring. By December 31,2016 No Kill Kern will no longer use our federal tax exemption; will pay the costs of our relinquishing the DBA to them (transferring its ownership from WEPF to NKK’s entity); and will become responsible for their City business license as well as completely responsible for all associated filings and notifications. WEPF will send letters of notification of the change in NKK’s status to all pet-related services in the Kern County area that may have allocated services to NKK based on WEPF’s non-profit status, and NKK will then need to reapply or update existing files for those discounts, services, or supplies under their own FEIN. NKK raised $34,364.31 in 2015 and rescued 105 dogs, one emu and two parakeets.
NKK Leadership The team leading No Kill Kern is comprised of:
Jackie Cameron – Executive Director, Finances, and co-founder Neel Sannappa – co-founder Christina Fix – Central California Adoption Coordinator & Foster Coordinator Jennifer Gray – Southern California Adoption Coordinator Aileen Barker – Webmaster
