Building on the success we had created over the previous two years in DesignLine, we recognized a bolder step was needed for 2013. We had been striving as a design team for a more holistic interior fit solution that truly fit modern domestic spaces and finally concluded that to break the traditional TV archetype an interior plane was the answer.

The designers, along with the engineers in Bruges, had to find the correct glass finishing to best fit the design whilst still delivering a fantastic high end TV experience. The smooth gradation on the lower side of the glass gave us the floating sensation we had been aiming for.

Innovators

Ever since the 1940’s our designers have continued to defy the conventions of television. And it’s from this kind of passionate determination that unique innovation is born. Innovation that transforms.

And with this heritage of looking beyond the ordinary in search of the extraordinary, Philips TV broke through the boundaries of conventional design to develop a concept years ahead of traditional television: DesignLine.

With DesignLine we wanted to create a super simplistic object and move away from the current product language in the domain. We wanted to redefine the television with a new archetype and a strong personality; a TV without a neck, without a stand and without a visible frame. One seamless sheet of glass leaning against the wall, that’s it.

In off mode we wanted to blur the boundaries of the screen to blend beautifully into any domestic interior. A soft gradient from black to clear creates a magical floating appearance and 3-sided Ambilight supports this effect.

As a designer this is one of the greatest moments in my career. It’s been very rewarding to see a sketch vision come to life; technology has finally allowed us to realize the idea we have seen in our minds for such a long time.

Designline blends beautifuly into your interior and integrates seamlessly with your lifestyle.We’ve added integrated Wi-Fi on the Philips DesignLine Smart TV to make connecting to your home network quick and easy, allowing you to access or share a world of online content wirelessly at home.

We’ve also included our newest intuitive smart remote control. Imagine all the usual features you’ve come to expect, plus a keyboard for easy text entry on the reverse side and pointer navigation. Being in control has never been easier.

Thanks to features like SimplyShare, you can now share photos, videos, and more, wirelessly. Share content from room to room, from TV to TV (MultiRoom), or even back onto your smart device with the Philips Wi-Fi smart screen and MyRemote App. For this TV smart is clearly an understatement.
