Creating Connections of Creativity. Through the journey of BA Architecture, I have learnt that design is what you make of it. You don’t have to make it complicated, its about the way in which your design makes other people feel and think. By creating emotive architecture influenced by personal lifestyle, a whole new meaning to architecture can be derived. Simplicity is the key to great success and my graduation project could be classed as ‘simple’ however, I believe that a design like this can have a contributing factor to the mental health and wellbeing of the society. Always think of others when designing within architecture as these buildings are the ones that will have a significant impact to our generation.

The concept for this project is the idea of growth: people and nature. The growth of people is the fact that the users of the building will mainly be the elderly people who have ‘grown’ and reached the moment in life when they just want time to turn back. Growth within nature is the idea that the plants around the building would ‘grow’ into the building, just like the gardens that have been extended into the building.

Ramp: St Nicholas Gardens (the site) will be extended in order to be incorporated into the new building. These ramps will also be accessible for those with disabilities, achieving the ‘Access for All’ criteria for a public building.
Views: When in the atrium, the user can see directly below down to the street, also working for the ones on the public square to look up into the spaces. A building that gives the public the chance to see the activities before engaging with the building.

Consideration of social courtyards in amongst a community area to allow interaction between families, couples and professionals. This design introduced new ways to re-connect the area of Leithwalk by creating positive outdoor space. By creating the 3 separate blocks of a family unit, a couple unit and a professional unit, having a communal entrance allows for the residents to interact with each other whilst maintaining a sense of privacy between their own blocks..
