PORTFOLIO NATASCHA HOOGSTRATEN

INTRODUCTION. My name is Natascha Hoogstraten, studying at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I am very interested in the Lifestyle and Design field, as my study is called. Eventually, it is a quite broad study where conceptual, photography, styling, and design meet. I am fascinated by photography and styling, and it is my dream to combine those media to make beautiful visual aesthetics. When I would define my work in a few words, I would prefer authentic, warm and homey. I have a fascination for everything that is old and has its own character. Seeing beauty in imperfection is therefore a repeating element in my work. I am used to choose photography as my main medium for my work. I love searching for little details that makes something ordinary suddenly interesting. To search for these kinds of moments, I am constantly looking and focusing. It is about seeing the world as one big playfield where everything can be interesting. Seeing the world though a camera, your view seems to be reduced, but eventually it will become bigger and bigger.

Triptych linked to the Brooklyn based brand Revisited, giving products a second life and a breath of fresh areby reusing it. Seeing beauty in imperfection is therefore a key element.

A display created for Revisited. With this display we focused on their recurrent aspect of reusing elements and creating something new out of it. An old wooden block, dipped with a shade that would match their color-selected collections. With the dip we wanted to refer back to their way of using handcraft a lot. In co-oparation with Britt Berden.

The second step was designing and creating a system for the brand. By reusing all kind of old materials and combining them, I created a desk out of an old door and shelves from old wooden windows.

TAKE A STEP BACK

TREND BOOK NATASCHA HOOGSTRATEN 3DE SECOND SEMESTER

The society we live in is full of knowledge, rules and expectations. However, sometimes even this isn’t enough to survive the problems around us. Therefore it can be necessary to escape from daily life and go back to basic.

S / S 2017 l

We need to take a step back before we go further. Without any common knowledge, people’s train of thoughts will become extremely personal. This will lead us to the most creative solutions. It’s about a new way of thinking, it’s about your own fantasy that will become reality.

Think like a child again to create the most playful designs, materials and colors.

The products I made for this trend are reffering back to a childish approach in life. I created several poufs, with the focus on a playful design and look. The pattern on it is created out of intuition, painted fabrics and threads are placed spontaneously without thinking of the end result.

Creating a digital still life, by using Photoshop. I decided to reuse a work of the interior stylist Lotta Agaton. Someone I admire for her personal style and aesthetics.

Photographical still life, concept based on the feeling I get when I am home, a lovely warmth and cozy environment where I can settle down.

Conceptual work

Prints created for StyleSight, a fashion and trend forecasting company. I picked the megatrend Creed, where it was about an augmented reality, seeking for the hidden (underwater) wworlds around us, dreaming and spirituality.
