What are the differences/ Similarities between LA Noire title sequence and Casino Royale
There are many differences and similarities between the LA Noire title sequence and the opening scene of Casino Royale.
One thing that is different between these two opening sequences is the use of camerawork. In Casino Royale a variety of camerawork is used whether in the LA Noire title sequence practically no camerawork is used, only 1 type of camera shot is used throughout the entire title sequence. But as the title sequence moves on the shots slowly fade out to produce a new title. This doesn’t necessarily evoke an effect on the watcher but it is a way to transition smoothly from one title to the other. This is different to Casino Royale as in Casino Royale the camera shots have a major effect and are all put there for a reason. One of the shots that is used frequently in Casino Royale is a mid shot this produces the effect of tension but also as if there is distance between which gives off the effect of mysteriousness in a character or a piece of scenery. This is the most used shot in the opening scene. Another used shot is a long shot. This is used at the beginning of the opening scene at the sports field, Long shots are good for showing the whole picture and displaying scenery or if a character is speaking but long shots are used so you can see everything but the other person who the speaker is talking to. This gives a sense of the watcher wanting to know more about and causes the watcher to be intrigued and watch on further into the film.
These two films have one thing in common which is their use of music not necessarily the placement which is not the same but it creates a similar effect. In LA Noire the music is placed while the title sequence rolls on it sets the scene and the type of era the film is set in. The placement of the music gives a lot away about the film and basic things about it. Whether the placement of the music in Casino Royale is the type that gives the effect of a chase that happens between Daniel Craig and another character but the tempo also quickens and changes as the chase happens. The music in the opening scene creates the effect of suspense and makes the watcher feel tension and makes them carry on watching so they find out what happens. This is different to LA Noire as in LA Noire the music sets the scene whether in Casino Royale the music describes what happens and fits in with the scene. The music in LA Noire makes the reader understand what type of film it is and tells them if they will like it as a lot of people decide whether they like a movie based on the music and where it is placed, so for the music in LA Noire and where it is placed in the film, the spectator will decide from that as well as the story line whether they want to carry on watching the film.
The themes in LA Noire and Casino Royale are similar in the way that the films are the same type of genre. Both these films have the theme of mystery in them. In LA Noire the mystery is set in the music. Whether the theme of mystery is presented in the camerawork and the angles that are used. Another theme that is shown in Casino Royale is violence this is shown by the actors and the facial expressions and their body language but also by the music. At 0;47 seconds into the clip darkness surrounds Bond while only his face is in the light this could represent that he is surrounded by darkness and only he in a sense pure and good within himself. This could display that at some point he will become morally immoral and change his actions but at the moment it shows moral ambiguity because he is being presented as a character with good morals/intentions. At 1:10 the shot displays both sides of moral ambiguity as Bond is surrounded in darkness with only a glimpse of light whether the opposing character is completed surrounded by light with only glimpses of darkness. In this clip of casino royale the meanings of light and dark are swapped as by the way the opposing character is talking he sounds mischievous but this could be hidden by changing the light meaning that he deceives people by making them think he is innocent. The high contrast in the clip makes it seem mysterious and possibly not as it should be. In conclusion I believe that both of these films have many things in common but as a conclusion I think that they have more differences then similarities.
