NATHAN DOGGETT
HELLO. My name is Nathan Doggett Throughout my time at Iowa State University, I have developed a passion not only for architecture, but also for psychology. As a student, I invested my time in understanding emotion and the complexity of the human mind. All my projects are driven by my desire to create an atmosphere that puts the wellness of its users at the center. I believe the most important aspect of architecture is our ability to design a space that is capable of evoking emotions. It is our responsibility, as architects, to create spaces that enhance the human experience.

THERMAL BATH + REHAB CENTER BOSUK HUR - 5TH YEAR STUDIO
TRANSITIONAL TENSION is a project that uses form to alter emotions with the space. The roof features a variety of angles that, when perceived within the space, give the users different levels of tension. We chose to give the users within the thermal bath space higher tension, while those within the rehabilitation center experience less tension. This resulted in much higher, intense angles above the thermal baths and much more gentle sloping angles above the rehabilitation spaces. The assignment required antithesis to be used within the programs, this meant that program layout was essential due to the importance of separation of public and private spaces. This project was completed in collaboration with Kelly Hanson.

US + MEXICO BORDER BORDER WALL PROPOSAL DEBORAH HAUPTMANN - IND. STUDY
MIRAGE is a conceptual exploration of the US – Mexico border. The project aims to compare a Utopic – Dystopic dichotomy to provide a solution to the issue of illegal immigration as well as working to promote community and acceptance. Most of the border is kept as a desolate wasteland to prevent connections and to further divide not only the two countries, but the people within each country. This border wall proposal seeks to create new utopian communities through a vast number of nodes. These nodes accentuate various connections through material manipulation, programs that provide opportunities for unity and enlightenment, as well as spaces that focus on atmosphere and emotion.

AIRFIELD THEATRE FIRAT ERDIM - 4TH YEAR STUDIO
WIND STRAIN is a project that is meant to give a physical manifestation of wind. Wind is a part of nature that is well accepted and understood, but is hardly ever seen, I sought to change this. I achieved the wind drawings by attaching sparkler fireworks to a handmade kite and flying at nighttime. I used a camera to take long exposure photographs, showing the pattern of the kite and its movement throughout the sky.

ID8 ARCHITECTS DES MOINES, IOWA STUDENT INTERNSHIP
For the last two years I have been a student intern for ID8 Architects (Shiffler Associates Architects) in Des Moines, Iowa. At the beginning of my employment I spent most of my time drafting in Revit and AutoCAD. The second summer I was given a little more freedom. In addition to drafting, I began to create graphics and renderings for the office. I worked closely with other employees to help pick colors and materials on projects around the metro. Towards the end of my internship, I worked with the managing partner to produce working drawings for an addition to the Jethro’s in Altoona, Iowa.
