Aziz Highlights
How it is
to Do Good
For Afdhel Aziz, it is not mutually exclusive for businesses to be successful and socially conscious. In fact, businesses that balance profit with the needs of their consumers and communities have a head start in appealing to Millennial and Generation Z consumers. “We are in the age of Conscious Capitalism,” Aziz writes on his website. “And Conscious Capitalism requires Conscious Marketing. In his book “Good is the New Cool,” Aziz explores thoughtprovoking philosophies like “Think Citizens Not Consumers,” “People are the New Media” and “Don’t Advertise Solve Problems.” These principles will not only help businesses appeal to the Millennial and Gen-Z generations of conscious consumers, but also help them attract employees who are drawn to organizations where they can do meaningful work. Before writing “Good is the New Cool,” Aziz established himself as one of the world’s leading experts in marketing innovation. The award-winning marketer led brands such as Procter & Gamble, Heineken, Absolut and Nokia. He was Director of Absolut Labs in the USA, which Forbes called “one of top three marketing innovation labs to emulate” in the world.

Examples of his work include Absolut Reality, the world’s first live-streamed virtual reality concert; Absolut Deadmau5, a groundbreaking video game with electronic music superstar Deadmau5; and Absolut Open Canvas, which transformed entire city blocks in Brooklyn and San Francisco into contemporary art installations. Blanco Repeats as Maintenance Mania® NATIONAL Champion
FRIDAY | JUNE 23 | 11 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. Hall B1 (entrance on Level 2)
More than 4,500 people competed in 30 events to be the 2017 Maintenance Mania® National Champion. But, in the end, Kettler Management’s Jorge Blanco again took home the trophy. Even though he was considered by many to be the favorite, Blanco was surprised he won. “Anyone who comes here and says they know they are going to win is lying to you,” Blanco says. “When you get here, it is anybody’s game.” Michael Shaffer of The Westover Companies claimed second place and Anthony Alfaro of the Gene B. Glick Company, despite reaggravating a calf injury, took third. Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington (AOBA), whose members wore illuminated plastic mohawks, claimed the Spirit Award.
Kettler’s Jorge Blanco celebrates back-to-back Maintenance Mania® National Championship titles.
Spirit Award winners and super fans—AOBA—cheer on their hometown competitors with emcee George Shea.
