SHORT Courses January – June 2015
The National Art School Public Programs offer an exciting new range of short courses in visual arts from January to June 2015. The five-day intensive Summer School in January is followed by Term One short courses in Feburary, Term Two short courses in April, and the Autumn Weekend Workshops in May. Highlights of this year Summer School include seven special courses held in conjunction with three major art exhibitions: Pop to popism and the Dobell Australian Drawing Biennial at the Art Gallery of NSW, and Chuck Close: Prints, Process and Collaboration at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Australia. Enrol in a National Art School short course and experience a unique visual arts education with a studio-based, hands-on approach to learning. Be taught by eminent Australian artists in professional studios, receive one-to-one tuition and rigorous critiques in small groups, try different studio disciplines, learn practical techniques, discuss historical views and contemporary concepts, and gain the personal confidence to express your own unique style and develop a visual language. The short courses are designed for students of all levels – whether you are a starting out as a beginner, furthering your studies, refreshing your teaching skills, practicing as an artist, or contemplating a full-time fine arts degree.

Drawing to Collage Anthony Cahill Explore the rich possibilities of combining drawing and collage to develop artworks from photographs, found objects and a variety of drawing media in pencil, charcoal and watercolours with different approaches from abstraction to realism. Anthony Cahill begins with introductory drawing exercises using toned paper and charcoal, then incorporates other elements including photographic and found objects, to co-exist with the hand-drawn image. PAINTING Watercolour Painting Cherry Hood Cherry Hood demonstrates how to work from photographs to make her large scale watercolour portraits of the human face.
