W
e were originally contacted by Fisher German who advised us that they had a client who had visited a number of grainstores in the area, in particular one which we had constructed for Parkers @ Ridlington capacity 3000 tons in 2006. Having arranged an appointment to see both parties on 20th July 2010 it was clear that George Neale had already decided on what he wanted and after discussing crop rotation and tonnage it was agreed that we would provide some detailed drawings using the Ridlington store as a starting point but adding on one additional bay to give an approximate storage of 3690 tons split into 2 no. sections of 1025 tons each and the other two 820 tons. We designed a store nominally 28m span x 9 no. bays (each 6096) long x 6m to eaves with 15° pitch. The building would be divided into 4 no. separate compartments ie 4 no./5 no. bays with a central tunnel to allow storage @ 3.6m high with fans at each end housed within a fan house connected to the main building which was nominally 8065mm long x 5000mm wide x 4500mm to eaves. The building would be constructed using 6” profile fibre cement cladding with all verticals in Olive Green plastic coated steel cladding. All exterior and dividing supporting walls would be concrete panels and steelwork would all be galvanised.
Inside the building would be a central main steel air tunnel protruding into the fan houses with a side access door and a staircase platform to walkway height through a separate door into the main grain store. A timber floor was laid on timber bearers with a mixture of softwood and hardwood boards. The fan units were 2-stage Duplex axial fans with dampers, bellmouth entry feed, including gas burners. allowing to dry through 12’ storage using ambient air. We also provided all necessary control panels for the fan units, roller doors, extraction fan units and all electrical wiring. We constructed all outdoor concrete aprons, with a base for the Griffiths Elder weighbridge purchased directly by the client and all necessary electric, gas and drainage pipes as required. Following acceptance of our design we had a meeting to decide on the exact location of the building on a new green field site on the outskirts of the village near an existing beet pad.

The site was staked out, levels taken with an allowance made for traffic flow, and positions calculated for the weighbridge and control room with an area for the gas tanks and sub station for the incoming electrical supply. Initially we had to address the problem of no electrical supply available on the new site. Workshop Our client placed the order with us on 26th April 2011 for completion by 1st September 2012. Whilst the contract was underway the client advised us that he proposed to erect a further leanto on one side of our building as a workshop to ensure that our works made allowance for this. Before we had completed the grain store we discussed with our client Phase 2 which was to construct a lean-to to one side for use as a workshop including washdown facilities and accommodation for chemicals/toilet etc. The lean to was designed to have plastic covered sheeting to floor level to enable it to blend into the countryside however we placed concrete wall panels inside for security. Where the roller doors were positioned we also supplied and fitted steel barrier gates for protection/security. A Spel tank was placed underground inside the building with an Aco drain above to enable machinery to be washed down.

We also supplied a Spel tank outside to take the sewage and water from the internal container unit. The D&H Group supplied the water and diesel tanks, George Neale said ‘’the original enquiry for the diesel tank came about at the LAMMA event’’ – having initially approached D&H Group he found they had exactly what he required and subsequently ordered a 10,000 litre water tank as well as the diesel tank . Following 1st class customer service the tank arrived on time. George stated, “D&H Group were very easy to work with and offered an excellent product range”. riffith Elder weighbridges have been a valued part of C J Neale Ltd farming operations at Kneeton for nearly 30 years. The association started back in 1984 when Jeff Neale purchased though Harris of Tuxford Ltd a single axle weighbridge with dynamic weighing capability. This weighbridge design was a world first to use load cell technology for dynamic weighing and coupled with solid built steel work and electronics has given 29 years of reliable service, up to the construction of their new 15 metre weighbridge in 2012. The new 50 tonne weighbridge is a modular design 15.3m x 3m pit mounted weighbridge using OIML approved load cells and indicator. Attached to the indicator is a laptop which is running the Griffith Elder designed Agricultural Software package. The modular design means that the heaviest single section weighs only 2,250 kgs and is easily lifted out for routine maintenance. The best feature of the installation is the ease in which the weighbridge tickets are populated, providing accurate and consistent data which can be used to show reports on yield per field, moisture content per crop type before and after drying, stock control on crops in and out of store, vehicle registrations and tare weights and merchant details on sales etc. The features are extensive and the reporting capabilities are user defined making it a very flexible and powerful tool for the modern farm operation. Reports can be exported in spreadsheet format for use in other farm software or can easily be sent by email.
Tryac have been working in partnership with Concept Grain for a number of years providing services from electrical design, Installation work, generator and mains supply upgrades and loading calculations for existing sites. Mains loading calculations The project at Kneeton for Mr Neale required a 500 amp supply fed from its own substation to supply the 4 x 33kw fans 4 x 27kw fans and general power. This supply came from the ACB and supplied the 630 amp power board fitted in the first fan house. A sub supply was then installed for the second fan house to operate the fans and general local power.

British Standards
Control Panels
All work completed is in compliance with current British Standards to BS7671 17 th edition wiring regulations. This standard has a specific section on agricultural installations section 705.
Tryac also produce specialist control panels as specified by the customer, as on this project they were used on the extraction fans and the automatic roller door for the main drying fans air intake.
A.C.C.S. Requirement Tryac also comply with the A.C.C.S. standards by providing poly covers for light fittings installed that are placed over stored crop for the prevention of broken glass from falling into the crop and contaminating the crop.
Adjusting the tunnel laterals To adjust how much air flow you have through the crop an operator has to adjust the laterals inside the tunnel, as this is a dark environment. So the allowance of lights which only turn on when an
