‘Revolutionary, one-stop solution’ agricultural buildings to help farmers fight new law Farmers worried about keeping their insurance cover ahead of impending changes to the law are being urged to contact local agricultural and industrial construction specialists Timmins. With changes to farming legislation coming into effect next year, many farmers will find themselves without cover in the event of a roof collapse.

s of July 1st 2014, the changes will mean that buildings erected without the CE quality mark will not be covered by insurers in the event of a collapse. It will also become a criminal offence to provide non-CE marked frames for the construction of buildings. Timmins is one of only a few companies in the UK to be awarded the CE quality mark and provide among the highest quality building erection and design. Ed Timmins, a director of Timmins, says: “The CE mark is a sign of quality assurance and means that a product conforms to essential health and safety laws. We’re one of only a few companies in the UK that carry this mark according to the Construction Products Directive and we’re proud to provide the highest quality agricultural buildings available. “Many collapses occur because of substandard material, poor design and poor construction and can easily be avoided with better craftsmanship. As we’ve been designing and building agricultural and industrial buildings since 1975 and with almost 40 years’ experience, we are one of the leading providers of steel frame buildings, crop drying solutions and building repairs and refurbishment.” Andrew Middlewood, of H Middlewood & Son, recently approached Timmins to design and construct a 66m × 30m insulated potato store and stresses why he would advise fellow farmers to “invest in the best”. He says: “It’s a top notch product that will easily save us a million pounds over the next 10 to 15 years. We called around for quotes and Timmins was the cheapest at only £595,000 but the money we will save in storage costs for our potatoes in the coming years is astonishing.

“They in no way compromised on quality, it was absolutely top notch. It’s a good, strong shed that isn’t going anywhere any time soon. It won’t fall down in the next 100 years, not with that degree of craftsmanship. “It met my every expectation; we even started piling potatoes in while they were adding the finishing touches, we were that eager to make good use of the space.” While the insurance changes were not a worry to Andrew, he admits that he found Timmins’ rare accreditation very supportive. “It wasn’t something that I worried about every day but I knew the changes could affect me and I wanted the best quality workmanship to avoid a collapse. Who doesn’t? Timmins’ CE mark is just another hugely reassuring benefit of their service. It’s one less hoop to jump through!” >>>

>>> Paul Broughton, of Broughton Farm Partnership, had several buildings designed and built by Timmins, including a 1200 tonne grain store, a cattle building and a generalpurpose building. “It’s all very reasonable and good value for the high quality end product. Will it save me money in the long run? Hopefully! But it certainly won’t cost me in terms of maintenance or repair, they’re solid well designed buildings.” Paul stresses that their CE accreditation made Timmins the obvious choice. “It reassures me to know that I’m completely covered, should the weather worsen as it did in 2005 and the worst happen. A collapse is an unnecessary cost to foot the bill of and we rely on people like Ed to make sure we are one hundred per cent safe and satisfied. We invest a lot of money in our farms, in our livelihoods, and because of their meticulous approach and high standards I don’t have to worry about a change in the law or the weather potentially ruining my income.” Like thousands of satisfied locals, Paul praises Timmins’ family run, personal approach. “It’s one of the main reasons I deal with them. They run it as a family and they do their job well. I’ve been a customer of theirs since the late nineties and I would happily recommend them to anyone in need of building construction or design. “Everything is to specification and meets requirements, however demanding. In our profession, our tools need to be

durable and stand the test of time. The buildings that contain our grain, our livestock, our potatoes, they’re no different.” Ed Timmins adds that there is still time to begin a project ahead of the impending changes. “We urge any local farmers who haven’t already done so to give us a call and arrange a consultation to make sure all your buildings are up to code before the changes come into effect. We organise, design and oversee every aspect of the installation process to ensure the very highest quality. And as our products bear the CE mark, you can rest assured that your insurance will cover you in the highly unlikely event of our buildings succumbing to the elements. “What’s more, we can fulfil a wealth of your farming needs outside of building construction. Take crop drying and conditioning, for example. We bring the same expertise that makes our buildings durable to making our new, highly resistant drive-on ventilated floors. “Designed to withstand the weight of agricultural harvesting machinery, our flooring distributes air evenly and efficiently, even at high temperatures. “With three ranges available, there is a drying and conditioning floor to match any budget, ranging from softwood for the more budget conscious, hardwood which is kilned dry for a top quality, highly durable floor, and even recycled as we now offer a unique range of flooring that is manufactured from recycled plastic. This revolutionary new range is less prone to contamination, is resistant to microbes and insects, and is non-toxic and rodent-proof. “For maximum convenience to you, we can also integrate our range of ventilated flooring, stirrers, and centrifugal and axial fans into a steel frame building for a one-stop solution for all your farming needs.” Contact Timmins today on 01427 788009, call Ed directly on 07968 322209, email info@timminsagricultural.co.uk or visit www.timminsagricultural.co.uk.
