| DON’T WASTE THE NATIONAL DOING OUR BIT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT This year the Festival continues its partnership with ACT Smart, an ACT Government initiative committed to creating a more sustainable future. We will continue to educate our patrons about recycling at the Festival through signage around our waste stations, and encouraging everyone to bring their own water bottle to refill at one of our water stations onsite. This year, we have a new company joining us to help us further reduce our waste footprint at the Festival. We-Refill are supplying stations that will serve chilled filtered alkaline water and sparkling water. There will be two stations onsite for the first year. This system is to encourage our patrons to reuse their drink bottles, and to steer clear of plastic. The cost to use these stations is $6 per day for unlimited refills, or $20 for the full Festival period. Tickets can be pre-purchased through www.we-refill.com.au or via a member of the We-Refill team at one of the two stations onsite. HEALTHY WATER, HEALTHY HYDRATION, HEALTHY FESTIVAL, CHOOSE WE-REFILL When choosing to refill you will also be supporting Charity Water Global with $1 of every pass being donated to provide healthy water to communities where healthy clean water is needed. There will still be free water refill stations located onsite. Please see the Festival map. We love to educate and encourage everyone to recycle at the Festival. We have a lot of help behind the scenes from our service providers and volunteers. We would like to thank our wonderful Volunteer Waste Coordinator, David Pinson and his team of super human trash fairies! This team keeps the bins moving throughout the entire Festival. They ensure we have no overflowing bins, waste stations are clean and tidy, and that the Festival site is waste-free and clean. We can’t thank them enough for their energy, commitment and ‘can do’ attitude! And lastly, we would like to thank SUEZ (formally SITA) our waste provider. SUEZ provides all the bins along with the onsite compacting trucks that manage our large volumes of waste efficiently and quickly. SUEZ also ensures that the waste and organics are delivered to the correct depots. Thank you all again for a fantastic result in 2016! We really appreciate your continued efforts to keep our Festival waste-free and clean. Every little bit helps the Festival and the environment. OZHARVEST

OzHarvest, the nation’s leading food rescue operation, has been feeding Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth’s hungry since 2004. In that time, OzHarvest has delivered over 58 million meals and has rescued over 19,500 tonnes of food from ending up as landfill. Using a fleet of 34 vehicles, OzHarvest rescues food from restaurants, cafes, hotels, retailers and food outlets throughout these cities as well as helping in rural areas with their regional food rescue program REAP. Every week OzHarvest collects over 56 tonnes of excess food and delivers it to more than 800 charities throughout Australia. Every $1 donated means we can deliver the equivalent of two meals to people in need.

You are part of our Festival community, a community that has been steadily growing ever since the event was founded back in 1967, and you are all very welcome to the 2017 National Folk Festival. As we move into our next 50 years of folk I am delighted that the National Folk Festival continues its proud tradition of presenting world-class music alongside grassroots and community activities, that it is able to provide an exciting alternative to main stream music culture, and that the event remains relevant and makes an important contribution to the stories and experiences that stay with you. Behind the scenes, the many talents of the extremely hardworking NFF team, our staff and volunteers, contractors and service providers who bring the Festival to life, are vital to the success of our event. To you all I extend an enormous thank you and my sincere appreciation for your investment in the Festival. To all our partners and sponsors who are acknowledged in this program, I am extremely grateful for the essential and ongoing support you provide. I thank you for your belief in the event and the assistance you give that greatly enhances the delivery of our Program. Last year was our 50th Festival, so you would think it would be hard to beat. But at this year’s Festival, we have taken a step up, and we are giving the 50th Festival a run for its money (so to speak!). We have added a whole new precinct to the Festival, called FringeWorld. This area is located on the oval and has a concert venue, a circus arena tent, stalls and chill out areas for Festivalgoers of all ages to enjoy. The concert venue, ‘The Borderland’, will be programmed Friday – Monday, with lots of other activities within the precinct as well. Check out the program for a full list of performances and activities. The Spiegel Zelt and the shipping container venue ‘The Container’ are both making a comeback in 2017. Both venues are in the same locations as 2016. The Piazza has done another flip, back to its original position. It didn’t quite work in 2016, as the venue was larger and we couldn’t fit as much seating in. We have flipped it back so it’s facing out towards Flemington Road. This will allow us to put in more seating. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again! Workshops: The workshop spaces for 2017 are The Terrace, Billy Moran Session Tent and Spiegel Zelt. Check the program for all workshop times and locations. In addition to the new and exciting additions and changes to our site and program, we also have some changes to the Festival site that are out of our hands… FLEMINGTON ROAD CARPARK

This year the Flemington Road carpark is limited to Disability Parking because of construction works for Canberra’s new light rail. ALL other parking (day, season, volunteers, performers etc.) will be at Old Well Station Road. There will be extra ticket windows and extra shuttle buses to bring Festivalgoers down to the Entertainment Zone. DISABILITY PARKING

In 2017, Disability Parking has moved to the Flemington Road carpark. Disability Parking in Flemington Road is free and is only available to people with a Disability Permit sticker. Volunteers at the Flemington Road carpark gate will monitor cars and check for permits. EMERGENCY CONTROL CENTRE

Our Emergency Control Centre is in effect again this year. In the event of an emergency, please contact the centre on 0406 375 691. The phone is manned 24 hrs a day. With a new precinct, activities, and spaces for everyone to enjoy, we are excited and can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been working on this past year. We hope you all enjoy the 51st Festival! | RECOGNITION In recognition of the days when the National Folk Festival moved around the country, each year we feature a different State or Territory. Following last year’s 50th Festival the Board of Directors made the decision to pair States and/or Territories. Rather than an eight-year cycle, featured States/Territories will now rotate in pairs over a fouryear period starting with South Australia and the Northern Territory. NORTHERN TERRITORY

This is the first time that the Northern Territory has been featured in its own right. Its only previous recognition was in 2002 as part of the Festival’s Year of the Outback theme.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA

The last time South Australia was featured in its own right was in 2009. In 2017 we have some wonderfully diverse performers from SA including musicians, dancers, puppeteers and spoken word exponents. We can’t list them all here but some to look out for are, Indigenous author Dr Jared Thomas and his daughter Tilly with their presentation “Songs Like Blood”, internationally acclaimed singer and harpist Siobhan Owen and Tamarisque with their blend of virtuosity and heart. Teenage sensation Taylor Pfeiffer is a must see while James Kenyon and Loren Kate are singer/ songwriters to note. If you’re after some good, fun, G-rated entertainment catch one of Me ‘n’ Me Mates’ shows “A Drongo’s Guide to Speaking Australia” or “The Yarns That We Were Told”.

Don’t miss the rootsy rock, country swing of Tracey Bunn and Her Band of Handsome Devils or gifted songwriter Colin Lillie. David Spry is an Indigenous singer/ songwriter and, like Barry Skipsey, his music portrays the outback spirit. Siblings Genise and Nicholas Williams come from Hermannsburg, NT where they sing in the Central Desert Aboriginal Choir. They will co-direct our Festival Choir so expect something very special. Sally Balfour is a great representation of what it is to be a ‘Northern Territorian Folkie’ while Adam Scriven will delight with his array of harmonicas, stomp box and yidaki (didgeridoo).

The National Folk Festival is proud to host the following awards that are presented to individual artists and groups in recognition of artistic endeavour in folk music, dance and the folk arts. NATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Awarded by the National Folk Festival to a person who, throughout their lifetime, has made a significant commitment and contribution to enriching folk music and culture in this country. Presented at the Opening Concert NATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Volunteers are the life-blood of our Festival. This award recognises exceptional effort and dedication – above and beyond! PETER J DALY MEMORIAL AWARD

Established by Meg Daly in memory of her husband Peter, a longstanding NFF volunteer and a Stalls Coordinator for many years, this award is presented to an artist or group of Australian origin that gives an outstanding performance of Celtic music at the Festival. JILL REES YOUNG MUSICIANS MEMORIAL AWARD

Award by Charmian Boulter in memory of Jill Rees, a talented multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and regular NFF performer, this is presented to a promising young folk act heard performing at the Festival. LIS JOHNSTON MEMORIAL AWARD FOR VOCAL EXCELLENCE

Awarded by the Johnston family to an excellent ‘unknown’ singer at the National the award is presented in memory of Lis Johnston, a wonderful singer and stalwart of the Victorian folk community.

FAA YOUTH FOLK AWARD

Nominated by folk clubs and festivals around Australia this award is presented by Folk Alliance Australia to a promising young folk act 25 years and under. Finalists perform in the FAA Youth Concert. Sunday Midday Lyric ALISTAIR HULETT MEMORIAL AWARD

Presented in memory of the late, great Scottish folk singer whose name is inextricably linked to songs of social justice, the Alistair Hulett Memorial Fund awards this for the best song of social justice in the current year. TRADITIONAL SOCIAL DANCE ASSOCIATION OF VICTORIA

The TSDAV presents two awards, the Beat Klippel Memorial Trophy and the VFMC Perpetual Trophy to the creators of two new dance compositions. Monday 9:30am Piazza NATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL RECITER OF THE YEAR

FIRST PEOPLES | Recognising and celebrating Australia’s First Peoples is an integral and popular feature of the National’s program. Music, and increasingly literature, are important vehicles for our Indigenous communities, giving voice to their stories. Knowledge and culture are shared through music, talks and special presentations. DAVID SPRY (NT)

David Spry is an Indigenous singer/songwriter from Northern Australia. David shares his experiences through song in an acoustic roots style with a uniquely upbeat vibe and is creating new pathways for contemporary Indigenous music. DJAADJAWAN DANCERS

The Djaadjawan Dancers reside in Yuin Country on the far South Coast and Eora Country in the Sydney region, NSW. This dedicated group of women and girls celebrate traditional Aboriginal culture through dance and song. DUBMARINE

Dubmarine is a high-powered and high-energy ninepiece tour-de-force that smash together dub, dancehall, reggae and drum n bass. GENISE AND NICHOLAS WILLIAMS (NT)

Jared Thomas is a Nukunu man of the Southern Flinders Ranges who grew up on country. An award-winning writer and a passionate commentator on climate change and environmental issues Jared’s writing explores belonging and culture. KUTCHA EDWARDS

Award winning singer/songwriter Kutcha Edwards is a proud Mutti Mutti man whose life’s work is the continuum of his ancestral Songline.

Jessie Lloyd - 2017 National Folk Fellow

Each year the National Folk Festival and the National Library of Australia jointly offer the National Folk Fellowship. The Fellowship provides the recipient with a unique opportunity to discover and explore original material held in the Library, one of the most significant collections in Australia. The artistic results of their research can be heard in concert and at a special themed presentation at the Festival. JESSIE LLOYD IS THE 2017 NATIONAL FOLK FELLOW

Originally from the tropics of North Queensland, Jessie Lloyd is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musician who performs a broad collection of Australian Indigenous songs. A vocalist, guitarist, bassist and ukulele player, Jessie earned her formal qualifications at Abmusic in Perth, WA in 2002. Jessie’s father, Joe Geia, is a pioneer of modern Indigenous music and the composer of the Aboriginal National Anthem ‘Yil Lull’. Jessie’s grandfather, Albie Geia, was the conductor of the Palm Island Brass Band and one of the leaders of the 1957 Palm Island Strike. Jessie’s family’s musical style can be described as island jazz fused with hymnal harmony styles. An award winning composer, performer and creative entrepreneur, Jessie is a cultural practitioner of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music and song. Dedicated to the continuation of cultural practice through the presentation of both traditional and contemporary Indigenous music, Jessie’s current venture is Mission Songs Project. Mission Songs Project is an initiative to revive and perform contemporary Australian Indigenous songs from 1900 to 1999, focusing on the Christian mission, state run settlements and native camps where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were relocated. Jessie has travelled Australia in search of hidden songs to present this rare and unique Indigenous narrative. From the Bass Strait to the Torres Strait and across the Arafura Sea, Jessie has spent time with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander senior song men and women, uncovering stories and songs from the mission days. Searching specifically for the secular songs that were sung after church, Mission Songs Project explores the day-today life of the mission days from cultural identity to love and loss. These unique songs consist of rare and almost forgotten stories that shed light into the history of our Indigenous people, families and communities.

This presentation is based on the diaries of Mawson and his men and their epic journey. Imagine Antarctica, the windiest and most remote place on Earth, with the expedition crew arriving in 1911. Music was a crucial bond, keeping the men united. Vaudeville, phonograph records, songs from the Australasian Students Songbook, ragtime, hymns, mouth organs, pedal organ and an autoharp: this was the music of the 1911 Antarctic expedition. He has appeared at every major folk festival in Australia, at which he has given a vast range of workshops on aspects of the folk songs of Britain and Australia. | LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - BOB BOLTON Bob Bolton

Visit an Exhibition of some of Bob’s Photos in the Link Corridor near the Trocadero. Thursday - Monday inclusive

Since the early 1960s, photographer Bob Bolton has been documenting Australian folk music and dance. As a longstanding member of Sydney’s Bush Music Club much of his photography has been focused on their activity and other folk music events around NSW. At the same time he was one of a core group of photographers that captured images of the National Folk Festival over much of its long history. Born in 1945, Bob grew up in the west of Sydney. He joined the Bush Music Club in the early 1960s before spending some years living in Tasmania in the late 1960s. He moved back to Sydney in 1970 and since then his smiling face and ever-present cameras have been a familiar sight at folk music events across the eastern part of the country. His day job was working as a photographer for the NSW Electricity Commission but in the evenings and at weekends he could be found with his accordions and concertinas playing music but the camera was never far away. The Australian folk community has been fortunate to have had such a passionate documenter of people and events over more than half a century.

FESTIVAL FEATURES | GREENING AUSTRALIA – OFFSETTING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT In 2017 the National Folk Festival is again partnering with Greening Australia to help offset its carbon footprint by donating $1.00 from each Souvenir Program sold over the Easter weekend for tree planting. Last year’s project, 50 Trees for 50 Festivals, was so successful far in excess of 50 trees were planted in the Greater Goorooyarroo area just north of the Festival site. To mark this we will be dedicating a commemorative plaque and tree in Central Park at 11:00am on Sunday morning. FringeW as we call it sits like an island beyond the hustle and bustle of the main site. This Festival within a Festival is where adventure, music and merriment collide. FringeW has its own dedicated food and drink stalls, chill out spaces and, it’s where you’ll find Psycus. On The Village Green you’ll find fun and games with Crazy Croquet, Bean Bags Down the Rabbit Hole and lots of pop-up activities.

The Bizarre is a dynamic, interactive space under a circus style tent. Participate in everything from Percussion Jams to Circus Death Match, relaxing Yoga or our daily Rainbow Dance Eruption.

| FESTIVAL OF DANCE Dance is a wonderful social activity and a vibrant element of our Festival program. The National Folk Festival offers both spectator and participatory activities and everyone is welcome to dance. No previous experience is necessary. There will be dancing! | INSTRUMENT MAKERS The Instrument Makers Hall is a unique and intimate setting that brings together some of Australia’s master artisans to exhibit their exquisite handcrafted musical instruments and to share their skills and knowledge with performers, patrons and their peers. This is an opportunity to see, hear and, for prospective buyers, to play some beautiful handcrafted instruments and to meet the people who make them. The Instrument Makers Hall is open in the Quokka Pavilion from 9am to 5pm Friday to Monday BENEDICT STEWART INSTRUMENTS

Benedict crafts woodwind, fretted stringed and percussion instruments using designs from the baroque period to the 20th century, as well as his own designs. After an initial focus on 20th century contemporary fretted instruments, Benedict moved to period examples and then to woodwind instruments while working as a machinist for a recorder and flute maker. Benedict conducts guitar and ukulele building workshops, and teaches instrument making at NCAT Preston, Victoria and in Verona, Italy with BonBon Creative Tours. Benedict’s high quality musical instruments have found their way around the globe. CARBONY CELTIC WINDS

Carbony Celtic Winds was founded in 2006 by Rob Gándara. Rob is president, chief technical officer, musician, and the driving force behind the Carbony™ invention. After working for many years in the computer industry, Rob redirected his engineering and music skills toward innovation in the musical instrument field. He has been playing dozens of different instruments for over 40 years. With Carbony Celtic Winds, he ‘reinvents’ the traditional methods of instrument crafting using carbon fibre as a primary medium. Dave Burrows has been building stringed instruments for over 25 years, with a focus on the guitar family. His workshop is in the beautiful Noosa hinterland Queensland, Australia. From an electrical engineering background, Graham Long from Gladstone Guitars and Ukuleles started building custom instruments in 2006. He is now a full-time instrument maker and loving it.

GRUNDY BANJOS

Master luthier Laurence (Laurie) Grundy of the Grundy Banjo Company has built five-string resonator banjos for the bluegrass music market since 1982. The banjos are crafted from the best materials available and are recognised for their great sound and playability as well as their intricate shell, silver, brass and wood inlay designs crafted by Denis Eastmure of Whittlesea, Victoria. The major hardware castings are made to Grundy specifications by machinist John Stanley in Queensland. Each instrument is partially assembled at the Grundy Banjo workshop in Eminence, Missouri and completed at Yarra Junction, Victoria. HARPS AND HARPS

Brandden is internationally known for his passion for harps, his design innovations and his fine craftsmanship. He makes custom acoustic harps renowned for their warm resonant sound as well as acoustic/electric, fully electric and MIDI harps. His recent innovations include Australia’s first totally carbon fibre harp. Brandden provides a complete harp service: he makes harps, restores antique harps, does harp repairs, rents out harps, imports harps and provides strings and accessories. JENS PLOESSER GUITARS

Larry O’Shea grew up in the NSW Riverina and now lives in Canberra. His passion is to craft unique instruments with an emphasis on using Australian timbers with a mellow, woody tone and vintage finish, rather than a mass-produced look and sound. What started out as a weekend hobby in 2005 making Irish bouzoukis has turned into a full-time pastime making old-time five string and tenor banjos, pre-American war gourd banjos, octave mandolins, citterns and gourd banjoleles. With 30 years experience as an orchestral bassist and banjo player, and nearly as many setting up and restoring instruments, Paul Laszlo is displaying some of his handmade instruments as well as a mobile string instrument workshop—new strings, setup adjustment, crack repair—and a few emergency accessories. The nyckelharpa (Swedish keyed fiddle) is the Swedish national instrument. It has existed in Sweden for over 700 years in various forms, depending on the musical taste of the time. The chromatic version played today was developed about 70 years ago and facilitated the spread and versatility of the instrument so that today the nyckelharpa is widely used not only for folk music, but also for classical (especially medieval) and other music forms. Since building his first nyckelharpa during a wood-working course in Sweden, Lennart has modified the instrument’s design and features in response to customers’ requests.

43 PETER COOMBE MANDOLINS

Peter Coombe is based in Bega, NSW, and has been making instruments from the mandolin family since 1994. More recently he has been making guitars as well as mandolins and mandolas. Many of his mandolins and mandolas have been exported to the USA and Europe. He uses Australian native timbers, as well as traditional imported timbers, and has written articles about the use of Australian native timbers in mandolins.

Taikodrumworks is an Australian taiko manufacturer based in Tathra, NSW. They have manufactured drums, stands and drum bags for a Bega-based taiko group, Stonewave Taiko. Taikodrumworks has received positive feedback from Taikoz who used their drums in a number of their workshops. WAILER GUITARS

Richard Troughear made his first Appalachian dulcimer in 1969 as a soldier in Vietnam—that instrument is now in the collection at the Australian War Memorial. After a career as a bio-medical engineer, he took up mountain dulcimer making again—and discovered that even simple instruments aren’t really so simple after all! Mountain dulcimers are simple, yet also complex and mysterious. Raindrop ukuleles, carved from solid wood, have become popular additions to Richard’s range.

Samuel Wales has always had a great appreciation of timber. His love of guitars and the possibilities of advancing them through technology have inspired him to spend the last decade redefining the traditional methods of building while keeping true to the elements that “speak” to him the most. Samuel’s industrial design background helps him combine new and old technologies to capture the finest tonal qualities of the finest timber. He hopes that people will fall in love with the warm richness of sound that speaks to him with each guitar he builds.

Geoffrey Datson has been making custom instruments all his musical life. His first effort was an Appalachian mountain dulcimer and his work ranges across skinned and electric guitars with wild and wonderful intonations. Datson introduced the electric dulcimer to Australian rock in his band, Samurai Trash, and currently performs on his handmade instruments in his duo, Datson Hughes. SYN WHISTLES

Syn whistles are played all around the world by professional musicians but are also suitable for beginners. Erle has been making bodhrans, flutes and whistles for over 25 years and has flutes that will suit beginners as well as a range of percussion instruments for players of all levels. SZABADICS GUITARS

Alan makes ten different types of banjos, from banjo ukuleles, piccolo banjo through to bluegrass 5 string Irish tenor, jazz tenor, & jazz plectrum banjos, plus any other that is called “Banjo". Alan uses a variety of timbers, Australian, if he can get it, but there are many other timbers that work well, including feral timbers that are harvested in the Adelaide Hills, that are regarded as pests, but have, quite often spectacular grain and colour. Adam is a guitarist, singer/songwriter and multiinstrumentalist with an array of harmonicas, stomp box and yidaki (didgeridoo) coupled with a passion for music that is clear and infectious. Martin Pearson is a strange mix of serious song, comedic parody and cabernet merlot. Disability Parking is available adjacent to the Flemington Road Ticket Office.

All patrons are responsible for their own wristbands/ tickets. If you arrive without your PDF ticket you will need to visit a ticketing enquiries window at one of the Festival box offices to have your ticket issued. If you misplace or loose your wristband once it has been issued, you will be charged for a new ticket at Gate price or refused entry.

Receiver units can be borrowed from the Festival Office free of charge. A copy of your credit card details will be held for security. Receivers need to be returned daily for re-charging.

WHEELCHAIRS: A limited number of wheelchairs are available for four-hourly loans.

LAUNDRY

All vehicles must display a vehicle pass when entering the site, campground areas and/or Entertainment Zone.

Located in the Cotter Campground (north of Arena) – bring your own detergent.

A responsible adult must accompany all minors (under 18 years) camping at the Festival.

LICENSED BARS

We have four entrance points to the Entertainment Zone: one at the gate near the Coorong (Gate 14), one at the gate near the Majestic (Gate 11), one at the Oval gate near the Session Bar and the fourth at the main Festival entrance off Flemington Road (Gate 2). Your wristband will be checked on entry and security will be checking bags at their discretion.

Underage drinking and secondary supply of alcohol to minors will not be tolerated and offenders will be referred to police.

There are facilities for recharging electric wheelchairs onsite, contact the Access Team for more details. TOILET FACILITIES WITH WHEELCHAIR ACCESS: Cotter Campground, Koszciusko building, toilet block near the Mallee, Magestic Gate toilet block, Fitzroy Pavilion, Link Building (between Coorong & Budawang), Coorong, Session Bar, and the Budawang have disability toilets with wheelchair access. SHOWER FACILITIES WITH WHEELCHAIR ACCESS: Fitzroy and Coorong Pavilions, Cotter Campground, toilet block near the Mallee, Koszciusko/Farmers Market Toilets (new block), and Majestic Gate toilet block have wheelchair accessible showers. Note: The Long Room in the Coorong Pavilion has NO DISABILITY ACCESS. Assistance animals can be watered and toileted in an area behind the Marquee near Gate 2 (Flemington Road entry). ASSISTANCE

A 24-hour Emergency Control Centre operates onsite from Thursday 13 April to Monday 17 April. The Emergency Control Centre coordinates assistance for medical or other emergencies through local emergency services, and has direct radio contact with Security who manage offensive behaviour, underage drinking, theft, vandalism, excessive noise in campground and un-authorised entry to site. Please contact the Emergency Control Centre on 0406 375 691 if you need urgent assistance. For non-urgent issues, the Festival Office is open between 8am and 10pm. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Entry to the Festival is at your own risk. Footwear must be worn at all times whilst onsite at the Festival. No pets. No exceptions! Assistance animals must be registered with the Access Team 0406 375 694. Offensive behaviour, theft and vandalism will result in removal from the site by Security/Police. No refund will be issued. Sound/video recordings are not permitted without prior written consent from the Festival Director. The Festival has a liquor permit for the event. BYO alcohol is not permitted, and no glass is to be brought onto the site. Any person found involved in underage drinking or secondary supply of alcohol will have their wristband removed and will be escorted offsite. AFP police officers will be called to deal with underage drinking offenders and citations issued. Festival wristbands must be worn at all times from 8am

BIKE MINDING

During the Festival, Pedal Power operates a bike minding area with bike racks near the Flemington Road entry (Gate 2) behind the Marquee venue. We recommend Festivalgoers bring their own bike locks for added security. CAMPING

A Camping Zone vehicle pass is required for vehicle access to the camping areas and must be accompanied by a camping season pass. Access is via Gate 7B off Old Well Station Road. Vehicle passes cost $25 each. The Festival does not guarantee powered sites and works on a first-in, first-served basis. The Oval is available for TENT ONLY camping. The Oval is divided into camping and parking areas. The end closest to the Entertainment Zone is our Tent Only area. The end closest to the stables will be the car park for our campers (please see Festival map). A barrier will divide the Oval and cars are strictly prohibited from entering the tent area. Cars are to park on the grass only; please do not park on the track! Milk, bread and ice are available from a number of local supermarkets or service stations within 2km of the Festival site. EFTPOS AND CASH OUT

Festival bars are conducted strictly according to ACT licensing regulations, i.e., it is an offence to sell or supply liquor to anyone who is intoxicated or under 18 years of age.

Due to ACT Government legislation, the Entertainment Zone is SMOKE FREE. Smokers are asked to smoke within one of the three unlicensed, designated smoking areas within the Entertainment Zone. Drinks are not permitted in those areas as they are not licensed zones. Please refer to the map for locations. Patrons are asked not to bring alcohol on to the site, but to purchase alcohol within the four Festival bars. It is a condition of the Festival’s permit that no glass bottles are to be brought on site, and if found they will be confiscated by Security. (Scrumpy, Flute ‘n Fiddle and Bohemia are exempt as they sell bottles of wine.) LOST CHILDREN

Report all lost children to and claim all found children from the Festival Office. Please ensure that all children’s wristbands have the mobile phone number(s) of the responsible adult/carer(s) written on them. LOST PROPERTY

Lost Property can be claimed or reported between 8am and 10pm at the Lost Property counter, which is located on the left-hand side of the front double doors of the Coorong building. Enquiries 0406 375 696. MESSAGES

Cash out is available from the ATMs located near the Bohemia Bar (24/7), inside the Session Bar (24/7), and outside the Lyric and the Trocadero.

A Message Board is located on the wall outside the Festival Office for messages. The Festival takes no responsibility for messages being delivered.

FIRST AID

NOISE CURFEWS

First Aid Services are available at the Coorong Gate and next to the Piazza internal to the Entertainment Zone. For after hours service contact 0406 375 665.

A noise curfew applies to ALL camping areas after midnight. Anyone wishing to ‘party on’ after midnight will be asked to move to the Entertainment Zone area, preferably at the Session Bar or the Scrumpy. Complaints regarding excessive noise should be referred to Security AH 0406 375 691.

HEARING ASSISTANCE

FM Hearing assistance will be provided in the Budawang, Marquee and the Trocadero venues. Receivers will be available with a neckloop for patrons wearing

Offenders will be given ONE warning. Repeat offenders will be told to leave the site. Police will be called if you do not comply.

USEFUL INFORMATION | PARENTS’ ROOM

A parents’ room is set up in the KidzFest. This is an area for parents to sit back and relax, feed or change their baby, and to generally get away from the hustle and bustle of the Festival. There will be a microwave to heat bottles, change tables and nappy dispensary, comfy couches and a team of volunteers on hand to help out when needed. The parents’ room is open from 10:30am – 5pm daily. RECYCLING AND WASTE MANAGEMENT

This year we are hoping that you will all help us effectively manage waste streams and reduce contamination of recyclable and compostable material. We ask for your cooperation in assisting the Festival to reduce the amount of waste taken to landfill. Waste stations for general waste, organic waste and recycling are available in the campground and the Entertainment Zone.

The Festival takes no responsibility for personal items within the Festival grounds. Don’t leave personal items unattended or on the floor during concerts or in any other areas during the Festival. Patrons should note that the outside carparks (although generally lit at night) are NOT regularly patrolled and we strongly urge you not to leave valuables in your car. SHUTTLE BUS

During the Festival period, a Shuttle Bus Service operates between the Main Ticket Office (Gate 7 – Old Well Station Road) and the Entertainment Zone, with drop off points at Gate 11 (Majestic Gate) and Gate 14 (Coorong Gate). There has been a shuttle bus service added to the preFestival week to bring patrons who have arrived at Gate 2 ticket office (Flemington Road) via public transport or taxi, up to the main ticket office at Gate 7 so they can redeem their ticket and enter the site.

Portable toilets MUST NOT be emptied into garbage bins – Black Water dump points are available in the main Cotter campground. Grey Water dump points are also available in the Main Cotter campground. Please use them. Please do not dispose of your liquid waste down storm water drains or in outdoor areas. Fines may apply.

Please notify the Operations team or the Festival Office if you find sharp objects or other hazardous materials. The Festival is required to record all hazardous materials onsite, and will assist if disposal of hazardous materials is required – do not attempt to remove such materials yourself. Children should be supervised at all times. Please report medical and other emergencies to the Festival Office or other identifiable Festival persons, or call 000. If you contact emergency services directly we ask that you then notify the Emergency Control Centre on 0406 375 691.

VOLUNTEERS

The Festival is run entirely by 1300 volunteers, who appreciate the support of festivalgoers. If you are able to offer a helping hand during the festival please see the Volunteer Support team located in the Volunteer Centre under the grandstand. There will be people around the site who can help you. All volunteers and coordinators will have name tags around their necks and some will also be wearing fluorescent vests. They will be happy to offer whatever help they can so please do not hesitate to ask if you require assistance.

Footwear must be worn at all times whilst on the Festival site.

For your safety, the movement of vehicles on site is strictly limited to essential traffic. A 10 kilometres per hour speed limit applies at all times. Please DO NOT drive around the campsite once you have set up.

Pre-Festival period service

We have a team of volunteers who keep the Festival site as clean as possible. Please assist them by using the bins provided and remove your garbage from concert, workshop and camping areas.

There is a 24-hr uniformed security presence at all gates, both ticket offices and throughout the Festival site. Security are licensed to remove patrons not complying with Festival rules, and have the power to evict patrons from site. In case of an emergency, please call the Emergency Control Centre on 0406 375 691. TRANSPORT

ACTION buses go to Civic from outside the Flemington Road gates. Bus maps and timetables are located at the Festival Office.
