DAYS 1–3 I ATHENS, GREECE/NÁFPLIO Arrive in Athens and explore the city’s treasures, including the Acropolis, the ancient Agora, and the National Archaeological Museum. Then travel south to see the Temple of Apollo and the Forum. Continue to charming Náfplio. DAYS 6–8 I DELPHI/METEORA Delve into Delphi’s awe-inspiring ruins; then visit the 11th-century monastery of Hosios Loukas and the hilltop town of Aráhova. Continue north to Kalambáka, where we’ll explore the extraordinary monasteries of Meteora, built atop sandstone megaliths. Later, enjoy a truffle-hunting excursion. DAYS 9–11 I THERMOPYLAE/AEGINA/ATHENS Return to Athens via the historic mountain pass of Thermopylae, and meet with a local expert to discuss the political and economic landscape of contemporary Greece. Diane Harris Cline has investigated the creativity and innovation of the ancient Greeks for 35 years. As the author of National Geographic’s The Greeks: An Illustrated History, she collaborated on the production of the PBS/National Geographic series The Greeks and led tours of the related exhibition.
