DAYS 3–6 I SANDAKAN/SEPILOK/ KINABATANGAN RIVER/GOMANTONG FOREST RESERVE Fly to Sandakan and head to the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Visit an orangutan rehabilitation center to learn about ongoing projects, then take a canopy walk through the surrounding reserve. Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre before continuing to our hotel located on the banks of the Kinabatangan River. Set out on a variety of wildlife hikes and river safaris. Venture inside the famed Gomantong Caves, home to thousands of bats and swiftlets. DAYS 1–2 I KOTA KINABALU, MALAYSIA/ MOUNT KINABALU OR PULAU GAYA Arrive in Kota Kinabalu and embark on your preselected full-day excursion. Drive inland to Mount Kinabalu, located within Kinabalu Park, and explore its lush trails. Alternatively, travel by local boat to the jungle-clad paradise of Pulau Gaya and go snorkeling or kayaking. DAYS 7–11 I BATU PUTEH/DANUM VALLEY CONSERVATION AREA/KOTA KINABALU Visit the village of Batu Puteh and meet with a coordinator of a community conservation organization. Continue to the forested valley of the Danum River and spend time exploring the many nature trails. Watch for rare species, including the clouded leopard and Bornean gibbon. Hike to a waterfall, go on a canopy walk, and venture out on night safaris. Later, fly to Kota Kinabalu in time for a farewell dinner.
