DAYS 5–7 I CHRISTCHURCH/FRANZ JOSEF

Fly to Christchurch on the South Island; then enjoy free time to explore this small city on your own. The next day, embark on one of the world’s great scenic train trips, riding the rails into New Zealand’s glacier region. Transfer to a beautiful rainforest lodge, our home for two nights. Opt to take a helicopter ride and hike, walk atop Franz Josef Glacier, or relax in nearby heated pools.

Day 8 I Queenstown

Travel southward along the coast and through rugged rainforest en route to Queenstown.

Day 9 I Fiordland National Park

DAYS 1–2 I AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND

Arrive at any time. The next day, ferry to Waiheke Island, and learn about the history of this wine-producing region at two wineries.

DAYS 3–4 I ROTORUA

Take a boat ride through Waitomo Caves, where we’ll witness thousands of flickering glowworms lighting up the cavern walls. Experience New Zealand’s indigenous culture at the Maori-owned Kohutapu Lodge, where you’ll watch as a hāngī lunch is prepared the traditional way—and enjoy the resulting feast with your Maori hosts.

Embark on a wilderness cruise through Fiordland National Park (seasonal). Led by onboard naturalist guides, we’ll have the opportunity to see dolphins, seals, and penguins, as well as the option to kayak. Spend the night on board.

DAYS 10–12 I QUEENSTOWN

Enjoy morning wildlife viewing as we cruise back to port; then return to Queenstown. Spend a day at leisure, with options to visit a winery, go bungee jumping, and more. Enjoy an evening gondola ride. Depart at any time on the last day.
