DAYS 1–2 I NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK/ CRUISING THE HUDSON/CONSTITUTION MARSH Board the ship in New York Harbor and sail up the Hudson River in the evening. Enjoy a quiet morning cruise, passing West Point Military Academy. Go kayaking in the bird and wildlife sanctuary of Constitution Marsh, watching for belted kingfishers, northern harriers, and more. Later, take Zodiacs around Bannerman Castle and learn its storied past. National Geographic Sea Lion for the entire voyage I Meals: 1B, 1L, 2D DAYS 3–5 I CATSKILL/ROGERS ISLAND OR HUDSON/KINGSTON/ ESOPUS ISLAND In picturesque Catskill, visit the home of Thomas Cole, an early environmentalist and a founder of the Hudson River School of landscape painting. Kayak in the Rogers Island Wildlife Management Area or take a walk in charming Hudson. Conditions permitting, sail out of Kingston Harbor aboard the Clearwater sloop, which was instrumental in cleaning up the Hudson and is now on the National Register of Historic Places. After visiting the Hudson River Maritime Museum, cruise to Esopus Island. Explore by kayak and Zodiac and see the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse. Meals: 3B, 3L, 3D
DAYS 6–8 I STORM KING /BEAR MOUNTAIN BRIDGE /SLEEPY HOLLOW Explore Storm King Art Center, where works of art are displayed across 500 acres. Photograph Bear Mountain Bridge in the early morning light, and kayak to Fort Montgomery if conditions permit. On the way south, stop in Sleepy Hollow. Hear a re-telling of Washington Irving’s legend; walk the 13 Bridges Trail; and visit the serene Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, a National Historic Landmark. Disembark in New York City the final morning.
