He received a National Geographic grant for his work with urban birds of prey. A native of Kenya, Washington was awarded the African Sustainable Tourism Fellowship Award in 2016 is a member of the African Primatological Consortium for Conservation.

DAYS 3–6 I KIBALE NATIONAL PARK/ QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK In Kibale National Park, meet with National Geographic Grantee Emily Otali and search DAYS 9–11 I VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, RWANDA/KIGALI Meet experts at the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund’s Karisoke Research Center to learn about ongoing conservation efforts. Track mountain gorillas in Volcanoes National Park, where National Geographic Grantee Dian Fossey conducted research on gorillas for 18 years. Search for endangered golden monkeys with National Geographic Grantee Deogratias Tuyisingize. Virunga Lodge | Meals: 3B, 3L, 2D
