DAYS 1–2 I ULAANBAATAR, MONGOLIA Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s bustling capital. On a private city tour the next day, visit Gandan Monastery, the National Museum of Mongolia, and the Zanabazar Museum of Fine Arts. Shangri-La Hotel | Meals: 1B, 1L, 1D

DAYS 3–4 I GORKHI-TERELJ NATIONAL PARK/ULAANBAATAR Visit the colossal Genghis Khan Statue en route to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Explore the park’s meadows and alpine landscapes on foot or horseback, and hike to Aryabal temple. DAYS 5–7 I THE GOBI Fly to the mystical Gobi and drive to the dramatic gorge of Yolyn Am to spot yaks, Altai snowcocks, ibex, and lammergeier vultures. Settle into a stunning ger camp set on the sweeping plain. Stop by a school in Bulgan the next morning, see ancient rock art in Khavtsgait Valley, and meet with a nomadic family to learn about everyday life. Spend a day exploring the dunes of Moltsog Els and looking for fossils at the Flaming Cliffs. Three Camel Lodge | Meals: 3B, 3L, 3D

DAYS 8–9 I ULAANBAATAR Back in Ulaanbaatar, visit the Winter Palace of Mongolia’s last emperor and enjoy free time before a performance of traditional dance and khoomii throat singing. Depart the next day. Shangri-La Hotel | Meals: 1B, 1L, 1D
