DAYS 1–2 I BELIZE CITY, BELIZE/BELIZE BARRIER REEF Arrive in Belize City and transfer to the National Geographic Sea Lion. Awaken in the northern cays of the Mesoamerican Reef, a vast barrier reef system that stretches more than 600 miles and harbors incredible marine biodiversity. Explore its mangroves and tropical isles by kayak or stand-up paddleboard, or go snorkeling on the reefs. If conditions permit, visit Half-Moon Cay to see its red-footed booby and magnificent frigatebird colony. National Geographic Sea Lion for the entire trip Meals: 1B, 1L, 2D

DAYS 3–4 I MAYFLOWER BOCAWINA NATIONAL PARK/MONKEY RIVER/ BELIZE BARRIER REEF Discover the lush rainforests of Mayflower Bocawina National Park on a variety of hikes with our naturalists. Meet local researchers to learn about ongoing studies of jaguar behavior. Enjoy a performance by an internationally acclaimed drumming group. Rise early to cruise Monkey River through the jungle, in search of toucans, howlers monkeys, green iguanas, and myriad bird species. Snorkel or kayak the southern cays of the Belize Barrier Reef this afternoon. Scuba diving opportunities are also available (at an additional cost). Meals: 2B, 2L, 2D

DAYS 5–6 I BELIZE BARRIER REEF/ BELIZE CITY We’ll drop anchor in the central cays and spend the full day within the fringing reef, discovering natural wonders both in the water and out. Snorkel the shallow coastal lagoon, exploring coral patches that harbor parrotfish, butterfly fish, octopuses, and many other marine species. Return to Belize City overnight and disembark after breakfast. Meals: 2B, 1L, 1D

A diverse expedition team, including an Expedition Leader, a photo instructor, and local naturalists will accompany this trip.

Fabio Amador Archaeologist Fabio Amador is an archaeologist and host of the National Geographic Mundo television series Mysteries of the Underworld. Originally from El Salvador, Fabio has excavated ancient Maya settlements on the Yucatán Peninsula, and researched Maya art throughout Central America. His articles and images have appeared in National Geographic magazine’s Latin American edition.
