DAYS 1–2 I ARUSHA, TANZANIA/ LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK Arrive at any time. Arrival transfer is included. The next day, visit Mto wa Mbu village for a guided culture walk, and sit down to a traditional lunch with a local family. Continue to our safari camp, located outside Lake Manyara National Park, and enjoy views of the Rift Valley escarpment. Set out on an afternoon safari drive to seek out phenomenal wildlife, including lions, hippos, elephants, and more.
DAY 3 I LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK/ SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK Travel through the Rift Valley and spend time in a Maasai village to learn about the G Adventures–supported Clean Cookstove project, enjoying an exclusive presentation by one of the Maasai women. Take a guided tour of the village, meet the women who have been trained as stove engineers, visit bomas, and opt to get your hands dirty helping to build a stove in a home. Later, stop at the Olduvai Gorge Museum and learn about one of the world’s most important paleoanthropological sites, where Homo habilis was discovered on a National Geographic–sponsored expedition. Continue to our safari camp inside Serengeti National Park.
DAY 4 I SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK Float over the sweeping savanna on an optional early morning hot-air balloon ride, then embark on morning and afternoon safari drives. Ride in a compact vehicle, gazing out from the pop-up roof to glimpse wildlife through binoculars—or watch as animals meander past. With luck, spot all of Africa’s “big five”: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and Cape buffalo. Hear from a researcher about ongoing studies at the Serengeti Wildlife Research Centre, where scientists are working on projects within the national park and surrounding protected areas.
DAY 5 I NGORONGORO Continue watching for wildlife on the drive out of the Serengeti en route to our comfortable tented camp. This evening, take part in the safari tradition of sipping a sundowner cocktail as you watch a spectacular African sunset.
DAYS 6–7 I NGORONGORO/ARUSHA Venture into Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site that harbors some 25,000 animals. Descend into the caldera for a safari drive and picnic lunch on the crater floor. In the afternoon, drive to Arusha. Depart at any time the next day.
