DAYS 2–3 I AMAZON RAINFOREST Fly to Puerto Maldonado and continue by motorized canoe to the comfortable G Lodge Amazon, located in the lush Tambopata rainforest. Go on wildlife-viewing excursions through the jungle, guided by knowledgeable naturalists. Enjoy some free time to relax or swim, and go on a caiman-spotting cruise after dinner.

DAY 4 I CUSCO Travel by boat out of the jungle and catch a flight over the Andes to Cusco. This evening, enjoy a presentation on astronomy and the ancient Inca’s relationship with the cosmos at the Cusco Planetarium, and gaze at the night sky through telescopes. DAY 5 I SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCA Explore the Sacred Valley of the Inca with a local guide, visiting the ruins at Pisac. Tour the G Adventures–supported Potato Park, a community initiative to preserve native potatoes. Enjoy lunch at a community restaurant.

DAYS 6–9 I MACHU PICCHU/CUSCO All roads lead to Machu Picchu, either by foot or rail. Choose to undertake a four-day guided hike on the Inca Trail or the lesser frequented Lares Trek. Or opt to enjoy two free days in Cusco before catching a scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes, our base for visiting the 15th-century Inca citadel rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911 and excavated with support from National Geographic. Explore Machu Picchu with an expert guide before returning to Cusco by train.

DAYS 10–12 I CUSCO/PUNO Enjoy a free day in Cusco, a World Heritage site. Opt to join a cooking class, visit museums and ruins, or try white-water rafting or rock climbing. Head south on a scenic drive to Puno by way of the windswept Altiplano. The next day, set out to glide around Lake Titicaca on a guided boat tour, from the floating Uros Islands to Taquile Island, home to a thriving indigenous textile industry. Enjoy a traditional meal at a local home. Later, opt for a tour of Sillustani, a fascinating pre-Inca burial site.
