Presidential Vision

Vision for Athens 2020 41st National Selection Conference of EYP Greece The following document is prepared by the President of the session, Mr. Tim Weber. It includes some elements that we would like to implement and experiment with in Athens 2020. “From innovative ideas to tangible solutions” Do you have 2020 vision? With the new commission starting its mandate, 2020 presents a turning point for the European Union. It will hopefully continue building on already established good practices and bring new ideas and approaches to the foreground. Athens 2020 aims to be a session for a new generation of Europeans and a new generation of EYPers. We are looking for the academic leadership of the session in the form of 3 Vice-presidents. As a VP you will be provided with the training and guidance to form a vision, within the general framework of the session. Going into the event you will be in charge of implementing it. Together with the president you will develop a personal development strategy for the session working on your personal goals. You will be given the opportunity to pass on your knowledge to both officials and delegates. You will be required to represent EYP in an official capacity. The positions are open to EYP alumni with sufficient experience as chairperson on various session levels. Academic Vision The session will have 17 chairs, some of which will be paired to co-chair committees. Co-chair applications will be allowed, meaning that pairs of chairs will be able to apply to the event. First time chairs will be required to solo chair. We will aim for a 50/50 balance between first time chairs and returning chairs; the board will also be divided to manage the two experience groups. This means that the academic training will need to be focused into two different streams for beginners and returning chairs. VPs will divide session elements during the pre-session preparation and will be in charge of the implementation during the event (as agreed upon in the board). The session theme guides the academic vision to make the most impact as possible. The board will actively look for ways to create a lasting positive impact for the session. The idea is to break the ‘EYP bubble’ and have Mοναστηρίου 85 54627 Θεσσαλονίκη Τ: +30 6984171743 E:info@eypgreece.org

tangible products beyond just the resolution booklet. The aim is to provide all participants the chance to interact with key actors and experts outside the committee room as a source of inspiration. Rather than current events the session will focus on sustainable management policy in relevant sectors. The event aims to bring ideas from the network; build on what works and create new approaches. The selection panel will be evaluating the fit of individual applicants with our common vision. I look forward to working with you on this project and good luck! Regards, Tim Weber
