NATIONAL TRUST OF AUSTRALIA (VIC) The National Trust of Australia (Vic)’s mission is
“
to inspire the community to appreciate, conserve and celebrate its natural, cultural and Indigenous heritage.
”
– Strategic Plan 2014–2018
I have the great pleasure of inviting you to join the National Trust to commemorate our shared cultural heritage during this year’s National Trust Conflict & Compassion Heritage Festival, which runs from the UNESCO International Day for Monuments and Sites on 18 April to National Sorry Day on 26 May. In this important year, the National Trust Heritage Festival commemorates the beginning of the Centenary of ANZAC by inviting communities across Victoria to share—through Festival talks, tours, exhibitions and events— the stories of conflict and compassion in their local history and heritage. From Bendigo Enlists to the B-24 Liberator, from Footscray’s War to Forgotten Landscapes, Festival events in Victoria will explore the human side of war, rebellion, sacrifice and endurance, and the extraordinary local stories of courage and compassion that come from the horror of conflict and strife.
2 | National Trust Heritage Festival 2015 | Welcome
In 2015, the National Trust is also delighted to present the inaugural Goldfields Heritage Month. Pull out your exclusive program featuring heritage experiences, events and stories from across the Victorian Goldfields region. The Festival has been made possible by our generous sponsors, Friend of the Festival, National Trust Branches, Expert Committees and Properties, the Victorian Goldfields Tourism Executive, the participation of community organisations and support from the Commonwealth Government. With more events listed this year than ever before, I encourage you to use the National Trust Heritage Festival to explore a new part of Victoria or discover new stories about a familiar place.
