Editor's letter W

elcome to the Summer issue of National Weddings Magazine. This issue is packed full of news and reviews to help you realise your dream of the perfect wedding day.

We’re on a mission to make National Weddings Magazine available to every bride and groom-to-be, in the country. Those of you in the North and Scotland will now be able to get your hands on a copy. Come and see us at the best Wedding Shows the North has to offer such as The UK Wedding Shows, the brand new North West Wedding Fair and a whole range of fantastic smaller wedding shows in the North. Of course you’ll still be able to request a copy via post by visiting either of our websites: www.nationalweddingsmagazine.co.uk or our new website www.northern-bride.com. You can come and meet us on our stands at a range of national, UK & regional wedding shows accross the whole country, where we’ll be on hand to talk and help recommend products and services. You’ll also be able to enter our Competition to win a three night break including breakfast at Trenderway Farm in Cornwall. The prize also includes a gourmet evening meal courtesy of Executive Head Chef Richard McGeown at Couch’s Polperro. Don’t worry if you can’t make it to one of our shows as you can enter online. I had a taste of summer earlier this year as I flew off to Saint Lucia. This wonderful island really is made for romance. You can read all about my stay at Windjammer Landing and St James’s Morgan Bay in my Destination St Lucia feature. However, if you’re looking for a break closer to home, then check out my editor recommends feature on The Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh and Brandon Hall Hotel in Coventry. Both venues are ideal for a romantic break, pampering hen weekend, wedding or mini-moon. If you’re after ‘Something Different’, or require guidance with ‘Choosing The Right Venue’ or want inspiration of any kind, then this issue has some fabulous features for you to cast your eye over. As well as our regular features such as Real Life Weddings, Honeymoons & Overseas Weddings, Photography etc, you’ll even ‘Benefit’ from a few beauty tips from our very own Sarah Vernon. Our Wedding TV programme – Ask The Editor is set to air in the next couple of months so we’ll be looking to our readers for more inspiration for our next programme. Keep sending in your video questions and you could appear next time. We’re also producing an Ask The Experts feature in our Autumn issue, so if you have a question for me then please email editor@nationalweddingsmagazine.co.uk or visit the website and click on Ask The Editor. Enjoy.

National Weddings Magazine is undergoing a few changes and will be re-launching with a new layout in Autumn 2013. One noticeable difference will be our brand new supplement, Northern Bride. We have received increasing interest from our readers in the North and are responding with a new supplement. Not only that, we have discovered that many of you have moved away from the North for work and family but want to return ‘home’ to the North to marry. It’s a very romantic notion and one we welcome. This new supplement will be backed by its own fantastic website www.northern-bride.com, where those of you who are marrying in the North will find all you’re looking for from the best wedding shows to attend, to the most beautiful venues as well as a range of professional wedding service providers for you to choose from. All our regular supplements; Beauty Pages, Ask The Editor, Venues, Photography, Honeymoons & Weddings Abroad etc and our popular regional guides; Midlands, London & Home Counties, Southern Counties etc. will still be featured. However, they will all have a fresh, new look. You’ll be able to pick up a copy from one of the quality Wedding Shows in our portfolio (see our dates for the diary pages) or you can email a request directly through our website. However, if you prefer, you can view the magazines on-line as we produce each issue as a flip e-magazine (useful for our overseas readers). www.nationalweddingsmagazine.co.uk www.northern-bride.com www.nationalgroommagazine.co.uk

Wedding Aine & Brendan

Aine got ready for her big day at the world known Negresco hotel in Nice famous Promenade des Anglais. A make up professional & hairstylist took care of Aine, her mother and her two sisters.

A

ine 30 and Brendan 33 are from Australia, they and their 80 guests flew from all over the world to share this magical day. Wedding specialist Eternal Event helped the couple to make the right choice for the most important day of their lives from start to finish.

Aine had decided to have a bubble theme wedding. Everything was influenced by this idea; from the invitations, to the table plan, menu & flower decoration.

Aine arrived with her father in a Lincoln limousine, and the ceremony started on a panomaric terrasse. A pianist and violonist were there to play during the blessing. A photo shooting took place in the vineyard, in the privative cave and in the garden. The couple then joined their guests in the French Garden for cocktail. Later, dinner took place in the courtyard. Everybody ended up in the dancing room unitl late in the night. Aine's family have a property in Nice, so they knew very well the area, and wanted to get married there. From ceremony to dancing part, everything took place at Château de Crémat. Aine & Brendan's Wedding was organised by Maryne Renon, the owner of the wedding planning agency Eternal Event. The agency is based on the French Riviera in Provence and specialises on weddings taking place in Provence, French Riviera and Monaco. They mainly work for couples living abroad and some of the nationalities they have planned weddings for include: England, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Spain, Russia, Slovakia, Romania, Korea, Lebanon, United States, South Africa, Australia and New Zeland. hether you’re planning a small, intimate gathering or a great big blow-out celebration The Southern Counties have everything to offer. The landscape of the southern counties consists of rolling hills dotted with small towns, giving a couple getting married some dramatic backdrops to their wedding photography. The Dartmoor National Park lies wholly in Devon, and the Exmoor National Park spreads across Devon and into Somerset. The spectacular Jurassic Coast in Dorset and East Devon is England's first natural World Heritage Site. This unique stretch of coastline sits amongst the ranks of the Great Barrier Reef and the Grand Canyon as one of the wonders of the natural world - and it's right here on the Dorset coast! Hampshire offers a wealth of attractions, unspoiled countryside, ancient forests, a beautiful coast line and an abundance of historic sites, Hampshire is stunningly interesting, having small market towns, clear chalk streams and traditional cosy pubs.

Bristol is the city of bridges, balloons, boats, Brunel and Banksy. It is the ideal City for a romantic break, a little adventure or a big wedding! It has an incredible and diverse heritage, from culture to science and everything in between and has some of England's most recognisable landmarks as well as plenty of hidden gems. Bristol is bordered by Gloucestershire, which boasts the Forest of Dean, one of England's few remaining ancient forests. With its rich and varied landscape, the area provides endless interest for all. Somerset is a county of captivating contrasts. Its coast takes in long sweeping sandy beaches, seaside resorts, harbours and marinas, and the dramatic Exmoor coastline. Venture inland to an epic countryside of protected landscapes, rolling hills, wild moorlands, ancient woodlands and wetland habitats, dotted with historic towns and villages. At its heart is its' distinctive culture that includes willow and cider making, great local food and drink and the legends of Kings Arthur and Alfred and much more. Just a stone's throw from London, in England's south east corner, you’ll discover Surrey. Historic villages nestle perfectly alongside vibrant towns, surrounded at every turn by stunning Surrey countryside. Surrey offers the perfect setting for weddings, with an

abundance of beautiful and unique venues (even aboard Concorde at Brooklands Museum). Whether you fancy views of the winners enclosure at a race course, the velvet greens of a championship golf course, the charm of an oak beamed 17th century tithe barn, or the splendour of a Great Hall in a stately home, you’ll find it all in Surrey. Sussex has fabulous venues licensed for marriages and civil partnerships to make a day you’ll never forget. From a 12th century priory and a timber framed Tudor hall to a fairytale moated castle and exotic royal palace, Sussex has some very special historic buildings that will provide a distinctive setting for your big day. There’s a wide range of hotels and restaurants too, including luxury seafront palaces, stylish modern restaurants, grand country houses and mellow old coaching inns. Sussex also has some unusual, distinctive and just plain quirky places to get married. Tie the knot on Brighton pier, say ‘I do’ with a shark present or exchange rings on a racecourse.

T

HE MIDLAND Region borders Southern England, Northern England, East Anglia and Wales. Home to England’s Second City, Birmingham, this historic region is recognized across the world as the Home of William Shakespeare - the world’s most romantic writer. It’s one of the most popular regions in which to marry as it’s incredibly accessible. Via road it has the country’s two largest Motorway networks, the M6 and M1 stretching through its counties; by rail it has stations in all of its counties and many towns and by air is accessible through two of the country’s leading

hubs, Birmingham & East Midlands Airports. This accessibility makes a short stay an easy option for people visiting from all over the country and even abroad. The Midlands makes the ideal region for Wedding receptions as it offers couples a range of options for their big day – Contemporary City Weddings or Classy Country Wedding – there are many more options in between. We have scoured the Region for some of the best Venue’s and wedding services available for your big day.

Saint Lucia

A taste of paradise S

aint Lucia offers unparalleled natural beauty. With its stunning scenery, crystal clear waters and year-round tropical climate, this tear-drop shaped island really was made for romance. I dare you not to fall in love with it.! Palm fringed beaches are just one aspect of Saint Lucia’s immense beauty. A lush tropical rain forest coats its mountains and deep valleys. Not forgetting the dramatic Piton Mountains where you can drive along a road leading into the remnant of the volcanic crater, where pools of muddy water bubble and shoot forth steam clouds 50 feet high. It’s no wonder this beautiful island has been awarded the title of the “World’s Leading Honeymoon Destination” eight times by the Annual World Travel Awards. If you can drag yourself away from the beaches, then you’ll discover that Saint Lucia has a

great deal to offer. Visit the Sulphur Springs or perhaps enjoy a spot of Whale and Dolphin watching (seasonal). Sail away on Catamaran cruises, visit the weekly fish fry at Anse La Raye or take a trip to ‘Fond Doux’ Plantation. The more adventurous can enjoy climbing Gros Piton or soaring high above the Rain Forest on a zipline. Full details of how to book trips and many other wonderful things to do in Saint Lucia can be found on www.StLucia.org There are many hotels and resorts on this beautiful island offering accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. A resort Windjammer Landing like no other

Villa Beach Resort, St. Lucia

A

t the end of a private road, winding down towards the Caribbean Sea, you will find a resort like no other. The initial, friendly welcome envelops you and the accompanying rum punch knocks your socks off! If first impressions last, then you’re sure to be left with the most wonderful memories of this place. You’d be mistaken if you think that Windjammer Landing was just another Caribbean resort. Gentle steps take you down to a crescent shaped beach where the warm and inviting waters of Labrelotte Bay await. As a backdrop, the Windjammer boasts over sixty acres of colourful gardens and lush tropical flora, all set into a hillside which overlooks the Bay. A myriad of stunning villas peep out from in between the vegetation, evocative of a real tropical Eden. Dedicated resort Mini buses transport you to and from your villa. An excellent service, especially so for those staying in villas further up the hillside. The original concept was to create a Mediterranean village in the Caribbean and it certainly has this vibe, with Villas being styled and impeccably furnished to combine Caribbean décor with Mediterranean charm. Windjammer Landing really is the ideal retreat for couples. Each Villa offers its own piece of paradise, incorporating romantic, opalescent plunge pools and private decks or verandahs which offer a real sense of privacy. Why settle for a room with a view when you can opt for a Villa with views from every room! Each Villa has been cleverly

designed and built in order to present you with jaw-dropping views of the Caribbean Sea and to make the most of the captivating sunsets. As well as one, two, three and four bedroom villas, the Resort also offers traditional rooms and suites. The Hibiscus Suites, aptly named from Windjammers’ tropical garden landscapes, provide high-end accommodation, some with private hot-tubs and all benefiting from wonderful views across the bay. Alternatively, the exclusive estate villas, having three or four bedrooms come complete with a dedicated private chef allowing guests to dream up a delicious feast suitable for an intimate wedding reception.

Windjammer Landing Resort is offering newly engaged couples a stress-free way to plan their upcoming nuptials,

Say Yes Before I Do The resort itself has an abundance of atmosphere which is complemented by the charismatic staff. Bartholomew Thomas, Bar Manager and Caribbean cocktail concocter extraordinaire is renowned for his creative cocktail menus. Thomas can create you a signature cocktail for your wedding and indeed did so for us on Valentine’s Day creating my husband and I, a ‘Valentine Velvet’ cocktail.

The bride and groom can come and experience all that Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort has to offer before booking their wedding, and they will receive a special resort credit. This package provides engaged couples with a four-night stay including wine tastings, a meet-and-great with the chef, cake tastings, scouting the resort for the perfect ceremony location, and getting to know the staff.

There are five different restaurants offering casual to elegant cuisine to suit your mood. My favorite was The Upper Deck. This beach-front restaurant was the ideal spot in which to enjoy a lunchtime snack and the most wonderful place to retreat to after a day on the beach. I spent many late afternoons here relaxing with a glass of wine whilst watching the sun dip into the Caribbean Sea. With a Beachfront Gazebo framed by Casurania trees, a Seaside Dock that transforms into a red-carpet runway and barefoot Wedding set against pristine beach and the cobalt blue wants of Labrelotte Bay this resort really does offer some truly wonderful wedding locations, accompanied by picture perfect backdrops. I spoke with Sherani Augustin, Director of Sales at Windjammer Landing: “The luxurious seclusion of Windjammer Landing is the perfect place to get away from it all. We can cater for every requirement, whether you want to marry in solitude or as part of a larger celebration. Your Wedding Day is one of the most important days of your life and here at Windjammer Landing we'll make sure it's one of the most extraordinary as well. We have staff devoted to accommodating your every need including two dedicated specialist on call 24 hours a day”. When she says dedicated, she means dedicated! They’re always available to talk to

She continued: “We start off as friends and end up as close as family”, and after meeting Sherani and other members of the Windjammer team I truly believe her. Described as a ‘Hilltop hideaway with a friendly, vibe’ I have to say I fell completely in love with The Windjammer and all it has to offer. Sophisticated fun with pockets of tranquility is what’s on offer at this fabulous resort; it’s my definition of paradise and I believe it’s the perfect Caribbean resort in which to say ‘I Do’. I

s a vibrant and colourful resort, boasting a romantic waterfront setting. Being just minutes from the world-class Rodney Bay Marina, Cap Estate Golf Course, and capital city of Castries, it's an ideal base for exploring the whole of Saint Lucia. The resort has long been a favorite for couples, families, weddings, and honeymoons. Since being taken over by the Elite Island Resort group just under two years ago, and with the enthusiasm, drive and experience of General Manager Mark Grebby and his team, it has undergone a series of improvements which has upgraded the resort to a higher specification.

Morgan Bay there are four to choose from, all having their own theme and accompanying menu. If it’s entertainment you’re after then there are five bars, some having lively music and shows. However, if you want a peaceful night in you can also opt to have lunch and dinner served in your room. Weddings at St James’s Club Morgan Bay are really rather special. The resort has some wonderful locations for couples getting married. However it’s not just the resort’s locations which are special. The service is too. The resorts’ Wedding Co-ordinator, Pamela Nurse will guide you through the various options available to you prior to your wedding, and on the day itself will go out of her way to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible. “Everything is made so easy here at St James’s Club Says Pamela. “Once you’ve booked, it’s all about you, and what you want. HONEYMOONS & WEDDINGS ABROAD

However, they will all have a fresh, new look.

real life

Wedding Delhi & Martin T

he wedding of Delhi and Martin took place at the stunning beachside wedding gazebo at the Nissi Beach Resort, Cyprus on a glorious summer’s day. The couple booked their big day with weddings abroad specialist Mandy at Perfect Weddings Abroad. Actually based in the Far East, Delhi and Martin worked with their specialist to finalise all of the details in the lead up to their wedding. In Cyprus, they were joined by their family and friends who flew in from the UK to share their wedding with them. Shortly after arrival on the island the couple held their pre-wedding meeting with Evelyn, Perfect Weddings Abroad’s in-resort wedding coordinator. Together, they tied up the last minute details, including the flower choices, order of the day and seating plan; before heading to the town hall to take care of the legal paperwork formalities. On their big day, as the Bride had her hair and make-up done in her room, the Groom and the guests mingled at the Nissi Beach Resort’s lounge bar to settle their nerves, before moving down to the beachside wedding gazebo. The Bride

then made her way down to the gazebo, (fashionably late of course!) and walked down the aisle. Following their civil wedding ceremony, the ‘first kiss’ and congratulations from the guests, the couple and their guests posed for wedding photos amongst the greenery and gardens of the Nissi Beach; before the couple then slipped away to the beach for some intimate shots with the photographer. The guests then enjoyed champagne cocktails at the Bacchus Bar Terrace before welcoming the newlyweds with a cheer. They then cut their wedding cake, with ‘his and hers’ miniature figures on top! In the evening, the whole wedding party, made up of around 30 guests headed down to the waterside Rondavel Beach Taverna, which was booked exclusively for their use throughout the night. The resident DJ ensured that the party went on late in to the evening. After their wedding, the couple headed off to Egypt for their honeymoon.
