2 Capabilities 2.1 Genetec s Omnicast Omnicast is the IP video surveillance system (see picture 2-1) of Genetec s unified security platform, the Security Center. High-end features transcend the Security Center into Omnicast. Based on the open architecture, Omnicast offers you high-system flexibility. Choose or keep your own hardware, leverage your existing infrastructure, maximize resources available on the network.
2-1: Omnicast Live Viewer is the main user interface for the operator to access all the devices.

2.2 eyevis NPX + IPD8 The NPX is a high performance split controller with outstanding image processing and display possibilities. Thanks to the MultiScreen-technology of the network-based netpix graphics controller series, it is possible to create a freely definable desktop surface for any large screen wall, projection, or single monitor. The netpix controller configures multiple sources in a network for one or more video walls. Diverse software applications, video signals, and data sources can be displayed and controlled on a single desktop. Netpix provides high-resolution images for the flexible, simple working, and optimised operation of your control room. Eyevis new NPX4800 series convinces with its innovative system architecture and its revolutionary enhanced performance thanks to the use of latest technologies, reduced power consumption, less noise emission, and highest flexibility in operation. The graphics controllers from eyevis netpix series are famous for their reliability and durability. Like all devices from the series, the latest generation versions are freely expandable and can be combined with associate devices to meet the requirements of every individual project. The system architecture of the netpix series enables a simple expansion of the hardware components and upgrade of the system.
The IPD8 is an IP decoding unit for the NPX controller or IPDU as a standalone unit. It is capable of decoding various cameras which are using: -
UDP, RTP or RTSP as a transport and communication protocols
-
Streams can be received either in uni- or multicast
-
MPEG-4 and H.264 streams can be decoded by default.

Special integrations can be managed depending on the SDK used by the camera or encoder manufacturer. The maximum number of streams is currently -
8x D1 (default)
-
4x HD (downscaled)
-
2x HD (native resolution)
The unit is capable of decoding more streams with the drawback of dropping frames on the decoding side.
2.3 eyecon software Controlling and handling of the display wall is done with eyecon software, in particular with the eyecon Control which comes with its own management software and user interface (see picture 2-2).

3 Configuration and Integration The next steps will show how to integrate an IPD8 into an existing Omnicast infrastructure.
3.1 Steps before the integration Specify before the integration process how the streams will be sent to the unit. Available options are: -
Protocol: uni- and/or multicast, default setting is uni- and multicast.
-
Codec: MPEG-4 and/or H.264, default setting is MPEG-4 and H.264.
Note: These settings have to be made before integration into Omnicast by eyevis itself or a trained and eyevis certified engineer.
Make also sure the NPX and IPD8 are up and running before invoking the next steps, because the IPD8 s are initialized by the NPX system.

3.2 Integration of an IPD8 into Omnicast -
Open the Omnicast Config Tool , select Physical View and choose the archiver where the IPD8 should be part of.
-
Right click on the selected archiver and select Create => Video Unit as shown in picture 3-1.

3-2: Add a unit dialog box in the Config Tool
-
Select the following options in the appearing dialog box (see picture 3-2): o
Archiver: the one that powers the current installation
o
Unit type: Genetec Protocol
o
IP address: IPD8 address, please be aware that every IPD8 has two units which are individual and have to be added one after another.
-
o
HTTP Port: 80
o
Use the default login: no user or password required
Hit the button Add and the integration process will start.

3-3:
Config Tool after integration of one IPD8 unit.
-
After the integration process, the IPD8 will be shown with the IP address and the output decoder channels available (see picture 3-3).
-
The integration process is finished.
Note: The integration process is automated. If you encounter any errors please contact our support for guidance.
Note: As seen in picture 3-3, it is possible to rename the IPD8 in the Omnicast software like any other device. The default name after integration is the IP address of the device.

4 Usage: How to display the stream After the integration the IPD8 is ready to be used in the Omnicast environment. The Live Viewer will show you in the left bottom corner a list of the available units (picture 4-1).
4-1: Cam open in Live Viewer and on the IPD8 at the same time
To open an existing camera just drag-and-drop it to one of the IPD8s outputs called <Name or IP> - Mon - 01 till <IP> - Mon -
. The stream will then open on the
selected unit and will be shown on the display wall if the specified decoder channel is displayed there.

If the stream is not displayed on the display wall, please check: -
Is the decoder window displayed on the display wall?
-
Is Omnicast delivering a stream to the IPD8 decoder unit?
-
Consult Remarks in chapter 5.

5 Remarks -
It is not possible to set up or change the layout on the display wall with the Omnicast software. This has to be done with the eyecon software in advance (see picture 2-2).
-
H.264 streams does not seem to work with all cameras. This is due to the fact that most of RTP streams coming from the cameras do not contain all necessary information for decoding, especially SPS and PPS information are missing. Please check with the camera manufacturer if the camera supports these options.
