Adam and Melinda Anakalea and Brad Pierce co-own the ranch and believe strongly in creating a healthy, nutrient-dense ecosystem. “Our ranch starts with degraded soils, nurturing the microbes through nutrition, growing grass to feed the bison—in turn, the bison work the soil and fertilize the ground,” explains co-owner, Melinda Anakalea. “Aft er a few years of life in this cycle, the bison nourish us with healthy, humanely raised meat— there's no chlorine in our water and zero antibiotics in the meat.” Anakalea explains that the bison are at the center of their ranch and their presence is diffi cult to describe. “Th ey carry a spiritual strength and a peace that is a bit unnerving unless you embrace it and breathe it in,” she explains. “People who work and live and visit the ranch are able to breathe in that peace of these gentle giants, feel the earth under their feet, and gain a new respect for where food comes from.”
