Metabolic Syndrome is a collection of symptoms or abnormalities associated with increased risk for the development of type-2 diabetes and heart disease. While few truly know what it is, 34 percent of people have it and it has recently become a recognized disease by the American Society of Endocrinology, National Cholesterol Education Program and World Health Organization. The cluster of medical conditions that categorizes Metabolic Syndrome includes abdominal or central obesity, elevated blood pressure, elevated fasting plasma glucose, high serum triglycerides, and low high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels—all of which are considered bad news and possibly lethal.
