Lose Weight and Reduce Stress with Yoga

Trying to lose weight but feeling stressed? Who isn't under some kind of stress these days? Even when we're not in the middle of a global pandemic, we're constantly being bombarded by stimuli and demands as we move through our everyday lives. We are always reacting and usually our reaction is a stress response. Reducing your stress can help you reduce your weight. Stress hormones stimulate our appetite (usually for sugary foods) and our metabolism slows down under stress. Not to mention that stress also interferes with sleep and our ability to recover from physical exercise. If you are working on losing weight, work on losing some of your stress.

As a long time student and teacher of yoga, I can't say enough about the benefi ts of a regular yoga practice to reduce stress and promote weight loss. Whether you choose a vigorous, power fl ow or a gentle, restorative class, yoga can help you slow down, learn to be less reactive, and ultimately less stressed. Think you need to be fl exible to practice yoga? Think again. Yoga will help you become more fl exible, physically and mentally. When it feels like your day has blown up, instead of reacting and grabbing some food that will make you feel worse, you'll be more inclined to pause, breathe and go with the fl ow. You'll be able to stay calm and present. You'll feel stronger, healthier and more inclined to stay on your path of losing weight and feeling better.
