Interview Policy All student-athlete interviews must be coordinated through the media relations office at least one day in advance. No interviews or photo shoots will be conducted prior to teeing off at tournament site. Out-of-town media should contact the media relations office to make arrangements for phone interviews. Players will be available for interviews following practice and, if prior arrangements have been made, before practice. P The Northern Arizona women’s golf team has high expectations entering the 2013 spring campaign. With a roster full of experience and potential, Head Coach Brad Bedortha expects his team to compete every time on the course with their targets set on the Big Sky Championship. “We are very excited about the spring season,” said Bedortha. “I thought we played very well at spots in the fall. We played well early in tournaments but did not finish as well in the third round of a couple events. I feel like we have the nucleus to have a very good spring.” Senior Stephanie Kim enters her final semester looking to post a strong finish to her career. A two-time Big Sky Player of the Year and All-Big Sky first-team selection, she holds the top two single-season scoring marks in school history. After her stroke average dropped almost two strokes last season, Kim looks for better performances this season and owned a 75.4 stroke average in the fall. “Obviously she has been a great player for us and owns most of the school records,” said Bedortha. “She has been an outstanding student-athlete. She played great in the fall and is playing more consistent. Everyone expects a lot of her.

Not to put pressure on her but she is our senior and our leader. I think she will have a great spring.” Kim won the Big Sky Championship after her freshman season and would like nothing more than to cap her career with another conference title. She was an All-Big Sky second-team selection in 2012 and posted a 77.2 stroke average over 11 tournaments. She

finished eighth at the Big Sky Championships, carding rounds of 72-74-73 for one of three top10 finishes on the season. Junior Kaitlen Parsons returns for her third season after becoming a mainstay in the lineup over her first two seasons. She led the team with a 76.6 stroke average last season and the team counted all 29 of her rounds played during the season. Parsons posted six top 20 and four top 10 finishes helped by six even or under par rounds. She led the team at five tournaments, including a team-best seventh-place finish at the Big Sky Championship. “She can do a lot for us,” said Bedortha. “Her golf ability is very good. We need to get her back to playing more consistently. I am looking forward to her progressing in the spring. She has taken over more leadership qualities with Stephanie.” Freshman Savana Bezdicek, who led the team with a 75.4 scoring average in the fall, has played solidly in her first semester, adding another strong and consistent scoring threat to the lineup. She led the team in two of four tournaments in the fall and captured her first individual title at the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational. “She has stepped right in,” said Bedortha. “She joked that she was worried about making

the travel roster but she played great right away. The sky is the limit for her. She continues to get better and works very hard at it. She has all the characteristics to be a very good player.” The sophomore class includes four players with playing experience that will contend for lineup spots this spring. Freshman Laura Jabczenski posted a strong freshman season. She recorded an 80.0 stroke average, the third-best mark on the team, in her initial campaign with four top-20 finishes and one top-10. The Tucson native finished tied for 15th at the Big Sky Championship, posting rounds of 73-76-78. Colombian product Susana

Mejia saw action in seven tournaments last season, posting an 82.7 stroke average. She tied for 23rd at the Big Sky Championship with rounds of 78-76-78. Classmate Darian Spivey will also contend for a roster spot. She had a strong finish at the Cal Poly event to finish the fall and has played well this spring. Melissa Olson will also compete after a solid freshman year. She saw action in 11 tournaments last season and finished 33rd at the Big Sky Championship. “We need some people to step up in the spring and say they want to be in the top five and want to compete,” said Bedortha. “It is nice to have more depth this year and competiveness. They are being pushed by themselves and their teammates. Any of them can step up and play great.” NAU is the coaches’ top pick in the 2013 Big Sky Conference preseason poll. Bedortha’s Lumberjacks received eight of the 11 first-place votes and 98 total points. Portland State was in the No. 2 spot, earning two first-place votes and 83 total points, while Sacramento State was third with one first-place vote and 76 total points. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team. The Lumberjacks finished the fall season ranked 129th in

the Golfstat rankings, tops among Big Sky schools. Northern Arizona has won six Big Sky Championships, most recently in 2009. The Lumberjacks open the spring season with the first of six tournaments starting at The Lumberjack at Ocotillo held at the Ocotillo Golf Resort Feb. 1113 in Chandler, Ariz. It is the first of three events NAU will play on the course, including the Cowgirl Classic (April 8-10) and the Big Sky Conference Championship (April 21-23). The 2013 Big Sky championship starts on Sunday, April 21 and ends on Tuesday, April 23.

BRAD BEDORTHA Head Coach ~ Fifth Season Brad Bedortha begins his fifth full season as the women’s golf coach at Northern Arizona University. He took over mid-semester during the spring of 2008, coaching the program over the final three tournaments of the season. Bedortha has helped the team rewrite the record books and win 11 tournaments under his direction while competing for the Big Sky Championship each season. The Lumberjacks have posted the top two individual team rounds and top five three-round totals under Bedortha, while the individual school record has also been broken twice during his tenure. The Lumberjacks won a school-record tying four tournaments in 2010-11, setting the individual single round and team tournament scoring marks during the season. NAU shot a seven-over par 871 at the Lumberjack Shootout at Wigwam, posting rounds of 287-292-292 to break the threeround tournament school record by 26 strokes. The previous mark of 897 came at the 2010 Wyoming Cowgirl Invitational. All three rounds ranked among the top 10 single-round performances in school history and the opening round 287 was the second-best round in the record books. NAU finished second at the 2011 Big Sky Conference Championship. The Lumberjacks’ three-round total of 891 was the fourth-best team score in tournament history and second lowest non-winning score. Sophomore Stephanie Kim was named the Big Sky Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Senior Alexa Kim was chosen for the All-Big Sky first-team and senior Bethany Leclair was an All-Big Sky second team selection. Leclair was the top finisher at the Big Sky Championship in second after recording a school-record five-under par 67 in the final round. Stephanie Kim broke the single season scoring record for the second consecutive season, helping the Lumberjacks win four tournaments: the Circling Raven Collegiate Invitational, the Cal

Poly Lamkin Grip Women’s Invitational, the Red Rocks Invitational and the Lumberjack Shootout at Wigwam. The four tournament titles ties the school record for wins in a season set in 2009-10. NAU also won four team tournament titles in 2009-10, setting a new school record. The Lumberjacks also broke the single-, two- and three-round team, as well the single-season school records this season. The Lumberjacks shattered the team individual round school record with a three-under par 285 in the first round of the Grand Canyon Invitational, finishing with a twoday total of 580 to break the two-round mark of 584 set at the 1998 Lumberjack Invitational. The previous single-round record was 291 set at the 2002 Lumberjack Invitational, while the two-round mark was set at 584 at the 1998 Lumberjack Invitational. In the final regular season tournament, NAU broke the 54-hole mark by eclipsing the 900-stroke barrier for the first time in school history with an 897 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic. The Lumberjacks averaged a school-best 304.5 strokes per round. Stephanie Kim was chosen the Big Sky Player of the Year and the Big Sky Freshman of the Year, the first golfer in league history to win both honors in the same season. She won the 2010 Big Sky Championship with a school-record tying 54-hole total of 216. She posted rounds of 69-70-77 to claim the title by four strokes over teammate Megan Buck, who carded a career-best 220 over

In his first full season, Bedortha led the Lumberjacks to their first Big Sky Conference title since 2002 and the fourth NCAA Regional in school history, earning Big Sky Coach of the Year honors in 2009. Senior Ali Carter was named to the All-Big Sky first team for the third time in her career, while Alexa Kim and Leclair were named to the second team. NAU also reset history at the Wyoming Cowgirl tournament, winning the event for the second time in three seasons. Leclair tied the then-school record with a three-under par 69 in the second round with the team posting a 296 score in the second round, tying the seventh-best round in school history. The Lumberjacks had immediate success under his tutelage to finish the 2008 season, winning the Big Sky Conference Preview and finishing second at the Big Sky Conference Championships by two strokes to champion Portland State. Carter was the runner-up at the championships after earning medalist honors at the Preview. Senior Sophia Choi, who finished fifth at the Big Skys, posted a school-record tying threeunder par 69 to lead NAU to a season-best 295 at the NCAA West Regional Preview one month earlier in the first tournament with Bedortha. Choi‘s round was a collegiate-best by two strokes, tying Lauren Gray’s 69 recorded in the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in 2001. She was named Big Sky Player of the Year, earning all-tournament honors along with Carter. Bedortha had served as the head men’s and

women’s coach at Division II Ferris State University in Michigan since 2000. He was named the Division II National Coach of the Year after leading his women’s team to a fourth-place national finish in 2005. Overall, he led five Ferris State women’s teams into the national championships, finishing second in both 2004 and 2006 and third in 2007. Ferris State's 2006-07 season success followed on the heels of the greatest season in the program's history as Bedortha coached the 200506 team to a runner-up finish at the 2006 NCAAII Women's Golf Championships as the Bulldogs ended up six strokes behind the national champion. Nevertheless, the second-place performance on the national stage not only marked the highest placing ever in FSU women's golf history but was the best finish in the history of women's athletics at Ferris State. Bedortha paved the way for a pair of All-Americans as Elena Robles attained second-team recognition while Casey McKinnon was an honorable mention selection. Both tied for third place on the final individual leaderboard at the 2006 national tournament.

Bedortha helped the 2000-01 squad claim fifth place at the 2001 NCAA Championships in just his second season at Ferris State, which represented the program's first national tournament appearance since 1994. Then following after a two-year absence, he mentored the 2003-04 NCAA-II East Regional champions in producing an impressive second-place tying effort at the 2004 NCAA-II Women's Golf Championships. At the time, the runner-up tying finish was the highest-ever in the school's women's athletics program. Ferris would return to the national tournament the following year and place fourth in the 2005 event. During his tenure, Ferris State teams captured a combined six GLIAC Conference Championships and five NCAA Regional titles. He tutored four players to nine All-America honors and 12 to Academic All-America status. Twentytwo student-athletes earned all-conference honors, while 15 captured academic all-conference honors. A native of Oregon, Bedortha worked at various golf clubs prior to joining the Ferris State staff including Bend Golf and Country Club and Sunriver Resort in Oregon, Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., and Deer Run Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio. He also worked with the Madison Golf Development Group. A 1990 graduate of Ferris State's Professional Golf Management program, Bedortha returned to his alma mater in March 2000 after serving as the assistant golf professional at the Bend Golf and Country Club in Bend, Ore. He was an all-conference golfer as an undergraduate at Ferris and helped the Bulldogs win league titles in 1988 and 1989 under coach Ron English. A three-year FSU letterwinner, Bedortha recorded a career 79.9 stroke average and posted a personal career-best 78.0 average for the 1988 season. Bedortha presently holds membership in the Professional Golfers Association of America and the National Golf Association. He's a three-time (2000-01, 2002-03 and 2005-06) GLIAC Coach of the Year honoree and received 2000-01 coNational Golf Coaches Association NCAA Division II East Region Coach of the Year accolades. In the 2002-03 season, Bedortha was the recipient of the NGCA's East Region Coach of the Year Award. Bedortha is the fourth coach in the history of the program.

Louise Davis - NAU Athletics Hall of Fame Louise Davis was inducted into the NAU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005. Davis was a four-time All-Big Sky selection, winning the 1997 Big Sky Conference championship and finishing runner-up in 1999. She was a two-time NGCA Academic All-America, the first honoree in school history. The Wales native won four individual tournament titles and held the three-round record at 222 set at the 1997 Dick McGuire Invitational upon graduation. Davis was a key member of the first two NCAA Regional squads in school history in 1997 and 1998 and memmember of four consecutive Big Sky Conference Championship teams. She was the top finisher for the Lumberjacks 15 times in her career.

Eleanor Pilgrim - NAU Athletics Hall of Fame Eleanor Pilgram was a founding member of the golf program, leading the early success of the team. She was a three-time All-Big Sky selecselection, winning the 1996 and 1998 Big Sky Conference championships. She won four individual tournament titles, held the school singleround scoring mark (70) and still holds the two-round mark at 140. She was a key member of the first two NCAA Regional squads in school history in 1997 and 1998 and member of four consecutive Big Sky Conference Championship teams. She played professionally on the Ladies European Tour.

Flagstaff Flagstaff, northern Arizona's largest city with a year-round population of approximately 62,000, is the home of Northern Arizona University. Surrounded by pines and aspens and sitting at the base of the 12,633-foot San Francisco Peaks, Flagstaff is in the middle of the Coconino National Forest, the largest contiguous stand of ponderosa pines in the world, at an elevation of 7,000 feet above sea level. Dr. John Haeger President John D. Haeger leads Northern Arizona University in its commitment to undergraduate education-a c o m m i t m e n t enhanced by the university's ongoing efforts in research, graduate education and distance learning. Dr. Haeger has been NAU president since November 2001 after joining the university to serve as NAU provost in June 2000. During his term as president, Dr. Haeger has guided the university to new heights in student enrollment. He also has ushered the university into its largest building boom since the 22year term of former NAU President J. Lawrence Walkup. Further, he has fully endorsed a national effort to increase institutional accountability, explaining that NAU must perform on a level that demonstrates its significance to students and to society. Among university achievements under his leadership: • Tuition guarantee. Dr. Haeger instituted a "block tuition" plan that guarantees first-time, full-time freshmen and transfer students the same tuition rate for eight semesters. • Access and affordability. NAU has

partnership with 15 community colleges throughout the state. The initiative streamlines the credit transfer process, allowing students enrolled at partnering community colleges to save time and money by being admitted to NAU while they are earning an associate degree. • Innovation. NAU-Yavapai opened its Prescott Valley doors last fall, allowing students to earn bachelor’s degrees at about one-third the cost of a traditional, residential college experience. The savings comes from offering a limited number of degree options and using existing resources through NAU’s Flagstaff campus. The cost-saving model garnered the attention of Gov. Jan Brewer, who called it “visionary” and “an example for the entire state and the nation.” • Expansion of nursing and the health professions. The university has placed emphasis on graduating more students in nursing and developing or expanding programs in occupational therapy, athletic training and physicians assistant. • Commitment to research. President Haeger has instituted NAU's first office of Vice President for Research. In Yuma, a 12,225-squarefoot building that will provide research four-year degree opportunities. • High Country Conference Center. Dr. Haeger initiated a joint partnership

between the city of Flagstaff, Drury Hotels and Sodexo to build a 42,000square-foot conference center and an adjoining hotel and parking structure. Consultants have estimated the economic benefit to northern Arizona to be about $7 million annually. • 1899 Bar & Grill. The university has opened an upscale steakhouse in the old north union that is open to the public and complements the conference center • Largest gift in university history. The College of Business Administration was able to acquire the largest gift in university history, a $25 million donation from prominent business leader William Franke. The college was renamed The W.A. Franke College of Business. • Arizona Cardinals partnership. The Cardinals agreed to continue their training camp in Flagstaff. About $7 million will be added to the northern Arizona economy as a result. Dr. Haeger is a member Arizona Board of Education, the Governor's P20 Council, the board of directors of the Translational Genomics Research Institute, is former chair of the United Way of Northern Arizona board, serves as commissioner for the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, and is past chair of the Council of Presidents of the Big Sky Conference.

BETH VECHINSKI Associate AD/Internal Beth Vechinski was named the associate athletics director for internal operations in December 2012. She is in her 11th year with the Northern Arizona University athletic department. She now oversees the business operations, facilities and the video department while serving as the sport supervisor for the Lumberjack golf, swimming and diving and volleyball programs. She previously coordinated the external operations and served as the senior woman administrator since August 2009. During that time, she oversaw the game management, marketing, media relations and video departments while serving as the sport supervisor for soccer, swimming and diving and volleyball programs. Prior to the promotion, she served as the assistant athletics director for marketing and promotions for three years after serving four years as the marketing and promotions director for the department. In her external role, she directed the day-to-day operations of the marketing department as well as duties with the statewide

Lumberjack Radio Network, securing all network sponsorship and corporate sponsorship sales. Vechinski also directed the operation of the Lumberjack stunt and dance programs. She also worked closely with athletic development in identifying and cultivating donors for the annual scholarship fund and major gifts. Under her direction, the corporate sales of the athletic department generated significant revenue in 2008-2009, highlighted by partnerships with Pepsi Bottling Company and the Summit Center, both Flagstaff-based companies and primary sponsors of the scoreboard system. Overall, Vechinski has attracted participation from numerous local, state, regional and national corporations. She previously worked for the Mudville Nine baseball team, the Class A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The San Diego, Calif., native oversees all promotional efforts for the athletics department’s 15 varsity sports and is responsible for implementing the department’s marketing plan and securing sponsors and advertisers for the department. She graduated from the University of the Pacific with a degree in sport sciences and earned her master’s in business administration from Northern Arizona in May 2004.

Lisa Campos, Ed.D. Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics

Lisa Campos was named the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at Northern Arizona University on March 30, 2012. Campos took over the leadership of the Lumberjack Athletics department after serving as the Senior Associate Athletic Director at the University of Texas at El Paso since August of 2006. With her hiring at NAU, Campos, 35, became one of 26 females and the youngest in the country to lead a Division I program, including 13 head athletic administrators at the Football Championship Subdivision level. Campos served as the sport administrator for the Miner men's and women's cross country, women's soccer, women's volleyball, women's basketball, and men's and women's track and field programs at UTEP. Campos also was the primary administrator for compliance, CHAMPS/Life Skills, strength and conditioning, sports medicine, and cheerleading. She was the advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and served as the liaison to the Intercollegiate Athletic Council, Office of Student Life, Miner Village, and the UTEP Police Department. In her tenure at UTEP, she also

had oversight of the women's golf, rifle, and softball programs, served as championship director for numerous conference championships, and cohosted a weekly television show, Miner Sports Weekly. Dr. Campos also assisted with athletic facility enhancements and co-directed the planning and design of the $2.6 million Helen of Troy Softball Complex, which opened in September 2005. In 2006, Campos served as the NCAA liaison for the Self Study Report for NCAA Certification and continued to oversee all gender, minority equity, and student welfare strategic plans. She was responsible for Title IX staff education and staff diversity training. In 2005, she created the Athletics Diversity Graduate Assistantship Program and served on the UTEP Women's Resource Advisory Board. She was promoted to the Senior Associate position after serving as the Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator since August of 2003. She also served two years as the Assistant Dean of Students within the UTEP Division of Student Affairs. Dr. Campos had the opportunity to serve on a number of NCAA Committees, including the NCAA Division I Championships/Competition Cabinet, the NCAA Rifle Committee, and chaired the NCAA Women's Soccer Committee. In 2005-2006, when UTEP joined Conference USA, she served on the Conference USA Strategic Planning Committee and assisted in the development of the realigned Conference USA's vision, core values, mission, and strategic objectives. She also represented UTEP on conference committees, including the budget subcommittee, legislative committee, championships selection committee, and various sport committees. Dr. Campos previously served as the Assistant Dean of Students at UTEP from 2001-03. Campos coordinated and administered the university's student discipline system, interpreted the University of Texas System Regents' Rules and Regulations governing the student academic honesty and conduct code, and provided information to the university community on discipline policies, rules, regulations, and procedures. She served as a mentor to an undergraduate student participating in the NASPA Minority Undergraduate Fellows Program and served on a variety of campus committees including the UTEP President's Advisory Committee on Women, Student Affairs Staff Development Committee, Faculty Senate Student Conduct Committee, and the University Health Awareness Committee. In the El Paso community, Campos was a member of the Girl Scouts of the Rio Grande board and the Junior League of El Paso. Dr. Campos holds a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Texas at El Paso. She graduated from Colorado State University where she earned a bachelor's of science degree in Business Administration and a master's of science degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education. A native of Las Animas, Colo., Campos is married to Darren D'Attilio.
