Satoshi Nakamoto Satoshi Nakomoto, which is thought to be a pseudonym for the person or persons behind Bitcoin and blockchain, first announced the creation of the peer-to-peer electronic cash system in a white paper published in October 2008.

The Genesis Block The very first Bitcoin block, known as the genesis block, was mined in January 2009, containing a timestamp and some relevant topical information to prove the date. Just six days later, the first full block was mined and Bitcoin mining began to take off.
