Model Minority is a photo essay on the Asian Indian community living in Columbia, Missouri. Asian Indians or Indian Americans are amongst the fastest growing immigrant groups in the United States and around 1000 residents, roughly 1% of the total population of Columbia are persons of Indian origin. Education plays an important role in the Indian household. Most adults migrate to the US in pursuit of higher education and once they graduate a great number of them settle down in the US and pass their penchant for education onto their children. That coupled with their work ethic are the traits that have earned the Indian immigrant community the nickname of model minority. This body of work is a pictorial representation of the aforementioned characteristics. It also attempts to shed light on some of the cultural and familial aspects of the Indian immigrant community.
