Our story Aesop was established in 1987. We are headquartered in Melbourne, and have offices and stores in many parts of the world. Our objective has always been to formulate skin, hair and body care products of the finest quality; we investigate widely to source plant-based and laboratory-made ingredients, and use only those with a proven record of safety and efficacy. In each of our unique stores, informed consultants are pleased to introduce the Aesop range and to guide your selections. We offer skin, hair and body care formulations created with meticulous attention to detail, and with efficacy and sensory pleasure in mind.

Our story

Container Design A sincere interest in intelligent and sustainable design extends to every aspect of Aesop’s workings. Just as meticulous research is integral to the formulation of each product, our utilitarian containers are created with utmost care to ensure they function with ease and are pleasing to our eyes.

Philosophy 07

A tactile approach infuses our work, from our product development to our retail service and visual merchandising.

extensive research delivers formulations of the highest quality and efficacy.

Philosophy

Since Aesop’s inception, we have maintained a fiercely independent approach to product research and development. Our team of skilled chemical scientists works out of our Head Office in a utilitarian, custom-built laboratory – conceptualising product ideas, researching blends, and creating prototypes.

We launch new products only in response to genuine needs expressed by our clients, and only after

Space Design In seeking new locations, our first consideration is to work with what already exists. It is our intention to weave ourselves into the fabric of place and add something of merit rather than impose a discordant presence, and our consistent practice to use a locally relevant design vocabulary.

Space

When considering new locations, it is our intention to weave ourselves into the fabric of the street and add something of merit rather than impose a discordant presence.

Philosophy

In 2004, in an underground we tread lightly with respect for the past, present nook in the Melbourne bayside suburb of St Kilda, and future. we hosted our first in-store customers. The space – once a narrow ramp descending into an underground carpark – set the benchmark for future architectural ambitions. In seeking new locations, our first consideration is always to work with what is already in place;

the joinery, while above, the brass arms of a Gaetano Sciolari pendant lamp stretch like branches laden with twinkling fruit. The below-counter storage and cupboards on either side are crafted from blackened steel, the richness of the matte lacquered finish offsetting the lighter timber above.Walls are covered in soft panels of hanji, a traditional Korean paper hand-made from Mulberry tree pulp, known for its durability and dense, multi-directional grain. At the back of the interior sits a Charles Pollock chair, its sleek lines rendered human through the tactile brown leather. Grey coir matting cushions the floor, with a rectangu-

lar feature panel of brown fibres adding variation on one side. Intertwining ancient influences and a modern aesthetic, Aesop Garosugil distils the sometimes-paradoxical elements of its urban context. Meticulous craftwork is combined with organic depth and a bold palette – an unabashedly confident response that is forthright, considered and refined.

Philosophy

The minimal glass frontage was deliberately kept clean and simple, standing quietly apart from the dynamic streetscape. A raw granite stepping-stone, the width of the space, mediates the transition from street level to the slightly raised store height. Inside, a low central counter extends from the front window, topped with a magnificent five-metre slab of reclaimed Korean Pine, its natural edges left intact to accentuate the golden grain. The same timber is used for wall-mounted shelving on one side, which has a corresponding single ledge opposite. Brass tap fixtures, recalling Korean handicrafts, adorn the sink embedded into
